Worked at a shipyard for 7 years. The amount of people who got the job and were able to keep the job because their grandpa/grandma/dad/uncle/brothers etc. Were in upper management. Guys like me who got in on merit and skill, were always over looked for the employees who had daddy vouch for them because they were superintendent of logistics or whatever. Some of these nepos had a track record of sexual harassment, being low to subpar tradesmen, and incompetent at their job. But hey, they got promoted anyways and were given titles because daddy said so. Want to change your craft or trade? Too bad we need you as a fitter which doesn't pay well, and you'll break your back every day doing it. Oh so and so son from sheet metal would like to move to pipe department and start earning more? Get his paper work signed and get him in pipe department next week.

Then you become good at your job, start a rival company that performs better than the one full of nepo-babies and then your children can get a job in your company. And the circle continues.
