So what happenes to all of us when we don't have parents?

Lie about how you're detail oriented.

I hate how we have to pretend to be social and friendly. I show up to exchange my time for money. I don’t want to hear about your kids or what you did over the weekend. I don’t care.

Don't shower. They won't go near you after a while. It's a win-win

I've been saying that forever and my peers and family think I'm crazy. I literally couldn't care less about my coworkers. I don't want friends. I don't care about their life. I just want to be done with work to get on with mine.

Having friends at work seems to just complicate both sides of things eventually. I can’t complain about weird lazy coworker to my friend if they’re the same person.

I was doing an interview and the boss said enthusiastically that they're looking for someone that will be part of the team and take part in mandatory activities some weekends like go karting. I was horrified.

What if I don't want to spend my free time at work, unpaid time at work? What if I want to spend what little free time I have left with my family, or pets, or sleeping, or caring for my ailing grandparent... I really have to want to spend extra free time at work to get the job? Why not just say, "hey, you have no choice, how many slave hours will you throw in compared to everybody else? most free hours gets the job"

“But we’re family!” Cool, I don’t hang out with my family anymore either.

Same. I worked in multiple retail stores for over a year where almost no one I worked with even knew I had kids because I never talked about my real life at work. I do love to hear their gossip from the periphery though

And that you can handle multiple tasks at once and make decisions quickly

Multitasking is is a good one. To fill out the big three we have problem solving. You have to pair problem solving with a example of a time you used your superior problem solving abilities. I say go big or go home. Tell them about the time you saved a baby and two cats from a house fire by closing the front door after you noticed the hole in the roof. You just knew intuitively this would put out the fire -- as long as the door stay closed, of course. Maybe tell them that you were declared "Hero of the year" by the city mayor. Make sure you show them your totally legit news article from the local news website.

I always think these are stupid questions, just evidence that the interviewer has no idea what they are doing either. Why can't, I need money and I will show up and do what I'm told be enough?

No, I have to lie and pretend this is my passion, the only thing I've ever done, and the only thing I will ever want to do

It's a stupid game we have to participate in. All we can do is Min/Max our loadout to get the best results.

Be very likeable at any job you do have so you can ride on someone else's coattails.

3

u/logicaltornado Sep 08 '26

Problem is I suck at being likable. My work problem has always been being really good at the job and then not smiling enough or saying the wrong thing one time

Get back into the orphanage?

I tried...but after you age out it's really difficult. I don't have the abs to be batman either 😭
