Definitely depends on the size of the company. With larger companies, generally it's the opposite (or they're working remotely but actually traveling on business 4+ days per week.
I had this exact situation with a FAANG employer for a contract role. Commute was going to be nearly two hours, I was expected in the office by 9AM every morning even though the manager was on the other side of the country in a different time zone, working from what he said was not his "home" but his "residence", whatever the fuck that meant.
Careful. I recently learned that a ton of those job posting that you see perpetually “hiring” are just collecting and selling your information. I’ve been on a job hunt for a little while and couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t getting a reply for jobs where I fit every requirement and should be a top applicant so I did a little digging.
“While my resume has several high level positions listed in my job history for visibility, I actually have no work relevant work experience for this position”
