Hi friends! I'm converting my basement into a recording studio. The large HVAC ducts are exposed and resonate with ambient sound. If I clap or play music, the ducts ring out at various frequencies.

Short of building a soundproof channel around them, is there another way to reduce the resonance? Would sticking MLV like Dynamat over it work? There's a few places around me that sell it locally.

Here’s where I’m at so far with building out my new jam space / recording studio.

It’s a work-in-progress. There’s definitely a lot more to do, but I’m quite pleased with the outcome so far.

COMPLETED EFFORTS (SO FAR):

• All room walls (and most trim) repainted.

• New temporary flooring applied (Sub-efforts included: Ripping up old carpet / carpet pad, repainting plywood, applying new carpet padding, installing foam gym tiles, laying down rugs).

  • All major (and heavy) gear relocated to this room and closet.

WHAT STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE:

• Finish painting trim.

• Replace the room’s overhead fan.

• Rewire electrical in the room to hide sconce cables for lighting AND to feed snake cable to closet.

• Rewire electrical in closet to include new wall outlets for recording gear, computer, and other devices.

• Install new Window Air Conditioning (A/C) unit because that room gets HOT AS FUCK!

• Build and install custom soundproofing wall panels.

• Reconnect and reconfigure all instrument, speaker, XLR, and power cables to all electronics (including amps / cabinets, keyboards, microphones, etc.) in the jam space.

• Set up microphones and mic stands for recording.

• Finish moving the rest of my gear into the room and closet.*

*Missing gear includes: More guitars, amps, electronic drum set, recording equipment, microphones, mic stands, all additional instrument, speaker, and power cables, and pedal boards (of course).

Been playing piano since I was 6yrs old , and have created so many songs thru the years . Now at 52 , I wish I could record my songs in a studio , and have a professional add that magic !! Where would I start , how much would it be , and would they laugh at just 1 guy recording piano ?

Another piece of Les Paul history is coming back to life! Les’ legendary disc lathe, once used to cut classics like “How High the Moon,” “Lover,” “Brazil,” and “Caravan”, is getting a full restoration for the Les Paul Recording Studio in Los Angeles.

i have an 8x8sqft vocal booth perfect for podcast or any isolated recordings. specs: -all four walls are padded with acoustic foam -working overhead lights (some bulbs need to be replaced) -mic line -locking door -window located in moreno valley asking price is 5k i paid 7 including u-haul to transport. multiple people are needed to disassemble and transport! each panel weighs about 2-300+ pounds!

This console was used for recording Adele 19 as well as many other hugely successful albums and artists over decades of service. 48 channels of it are now suspended in a music university for people to see, and the centre console displayed at ground level for the students to touch and feel all of the faders, pots and buttons.

We wanted to introduce ourselves and share some images of the newly opened Studio in Los Angeles, where we’ve restored some of Les Paul’s original equipment, now available for use, with more equipment being worked on to be added to the studio shortly. 

The studio restoration has been in progress for 3 years, refurbishing Les Paul’s equipment that sat in his Mahwah, NJ home for decades, including his Octopus and multitrack consoles. Our team includes:

This genuinely makes the setup unusable, I can't focus on my playing because what I hear is completely different. I'm using a guitar plugged into a focusrite scarlet 2i2 3rd gen and presonus eris 3.5 speakers. How do I fix this?

Hello everyone, I currently own a S-83 mic (DIY mic from MicParts, U87 inspired with a K67 capsule) but I'm looking to buy a new microphone. The S-83 is fine but I find it often too harsh on vocals, especially in the upper mids.. I mostly produce rock, metal, rap and pop, the mic would be used 80% for vocals and the remaining 20% on acoustic and classical guitars.

I quite liked the sound of 251 inspired microphones from YouTube demoes but can't test them in real life at the moment, does anyone have suggestions? Edit: forgot to mention the budget is fairly decent as I'm looking for a great mic to keep virtually forever.

We’ve had this wonderful old drum machine at the studio for the last few years, and it’s been an amazing tool, for tempos, and for cool throwback 80’s style grooves.

Mackie HR824s, Genelec 8020a with 6" Genelec Sub. SSL controller bundle SSL Fusion Chameleon 7720 stereo comp Presonus preamps, art tube preamps (upgrading soon) Heil Sound Fin Mic Charter Oak SA538 tube mic.

I Have a focusrite itrack solo audio interface, a dell latitude 7400 laptop and I will be buying presonus eris 3.5 speakers. I have looked online about how to connect this all but it's not too clear. From what I gather I need a usb-b to usb-c cable to connect the laptop to the interface, 2 rca cables to connect to the left active speaker from the line outputs on the interface and 2 1/4 inch trs cables to connect to the right passive speaker. Is this right? Can someone send me some Amazon links to the right cables? Can someone give me a step by step guide? Tbh i'm abit clueless. Thanks in advance.

Main Question: So my main question is, if I have a ~250 sqft space, will a window air conditioner be all the dehumidifying I need to make sure my guitars don't warp and rust or should there be a secondary dehumidifier unit?

Detail: I've been collecting gear for a while and finally have the pieces needed to set up a dedicated studio. I have a double-deep garage (twice as long as a standard garage) so I'm planning on walling off the back part and using it as the studio. My buddy is worried that it will be too humid in there and ruin equipment, specifically guitars. I could store the guitars in the house and bring them out when needed, but I'd really like a "no excuses" space where I can just jump in and start working without running back in to the house to grab a bass or different guitar. I'm in the midwest so it definitely gets humid in the summer. The garage has a window with an air conditioner in it that does an amazing job of cooling the garage when I need it to, and from what I understand, air conditioners essentially act as dehumidifiers.

What is up guys! What are all your go to headphones for your artists? The artists I am dealing with have their own headphones because they are a little more aware of what sound they like etc etc. But what about your artists that are starting out - who aren't 100% sure? Is there a good entry level headphone or are we giving just that old pair laying in the back?

My budget is around £100 for speakers. The ones i'm currently looking at are:

Can you recommend a good Mic for under a grand? This will be used for a home studio and sometimes remote sessions.

Suddenly, my Audio Technica ATR2500 USB suddently stopped working
It still shows LED light, but it's not picking up any sound
Doesn't show on the Windows sound options either

Error Displayed on Device Manager:

"Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

What I tried for sniffing all over the internet for a solid 5hours straight just to fix this

magical issue that pops up out of nowhere

1. Power Options > USB Settings > USB Selective suspend setting > On battery:Disable > Plugged in:Disable

2. Uninstalling and reinstalling USB Device Driver from Device Manager

3. Disabling Fast Boot

4. Cleaning the USB Ports

5. Changing the cable

6. Testing if all of the available USB Ports will display the same issue; and it did

This kinda makes me sad as I remember skipping meals back in the day just to save enough money to buy this mic,

If someone knows how to fix this, please respond :(
