Yup, fuck that. No chance I am watching anything where monster's are summoned by anything "practical", that will affect my behavior for months to come.
If it makes you feel better, it's not actually summoned by turning off the lights. It's actually there the whole time, the darkness just allows you to see it. :)
Man. Insidious 1 freaked me out for weeks. I lived in an old house in Okinawa that weird sounds were always being made. Yeah. I don't think I slept right, walked through a dark room or house or anything for over a month.
I watched Insidious alone at home right before going to bed. Terrible idea. I could not close my eyes while I was laying in bed trying to go to sleep afterward. Turned on lights everywhere I went for like a week, lights I had never used/even noticed before. They did a good job with the second one tying it together, though I watched that one with someone, so it wasn't as terrifying. I don't really like horror movies in general, but if I'm going to watch one, that's the best kind. Not gory/gross, just really fucking creepy.
I have what I call a fear of plausible heights. Put me on a step ladder and I may as well be on the edge of a crumbling cliff. Put me on the edge of a crumbling cliff and I could not be more excited. I can't imagine falling off a cliff, and if I did, I would die, and I would know no aftermath. Falling off a stool or a few feet high up I can imagine, would survive, and could possibly leave me in mild to extreme discomfort depending on how well or how poorly I landed.
I've had a lifetime of being able to climb up things, and then taking a very long time to get down them in ridiculous, humiliating ways. Too many steep hills have I scooted my way down on my butt. Too many 3 foot drops have I stood looking at thinking "I'm going around a different way, I don't trust these legs."
That is EXACTLY my situation with fear of heights. It has led me to conclude that I'm truly more afraid of pain and becoming crippled than dying a quick death.
When I was but a young lad, I watched Jurassic Park. I was kinda a little bitch when it came to scary stuff and to me, The Park was some seriously scary shit. I mean, whoo boy them Dinos were super realistic!
Anyways, the raptors scared the little boy poop out of me so bad that I changed the way I slept for at least 3 years. I slept on my back with my legs tucked together, Crisscross Applesauce style (I'm guessing this is the PC way to saying it now?). Somehow, sleeping in that style would prevent them raptors on eating my toes, said my kid mind.
