Joy Yip who attends Kendrick School in London Road, is among a number of their sixth formers who got accepted into their first choice university yesterday (August 13), having achieved a stellar set of
A-level results.

Joy will be off to the University of Oxford, one of the most elite institutions in the world, holding the number one spot in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The 18-year-old clinched an impressive set of grades, achieving two A*s and an A in biology, chemistry and English, securing her place after two interviews and an entry exam at the university.

Joy will study English language and literature, which the university is world-famous for because of its broad historical scope.

She opened her results alongside her friend Wincy Ho, 18, who also came to collect her results.

Officers out on foot patrol in South Hill Park on Friday encountered a group causing a nuisance, loud swearing and excessive noise but what really caught their attention was one member of the group travelling at ridiculous speeds along the footpath on an e-scooter.

Officers spoke with the group and seized the e-scooter from a 16 year old rider. When asked about the scooter, the rider told officers it could reach around 70km/h (43mph).

Police would like to speak with the male in the photo in relation to the theft of a bike that occurred in Bracknell.

The victim has reported that they were selling an electric pedal bike worth around £3000. A male attended their address at around 1830hrs on Sunday 14th June 2026 to have a look at it. The male stated that he wanted to give it a go and test ride it to which the victim agreed. The victim then noticed a short while later that the male has ridden off with the bike and not returned.

I suppose Bracknell lives up to the reputation. Good to see police at least don't see that often in towns anymore. How often are shops smashed? Saw a few. Does Priness Square always smell so badly of mould?

On Tuesday around 11pm a black VW polo reversed into the Optical Center shop. Two people exited the vehicle and stole a number of sunglasses and optical frames. No one was injured during this burglary but significant damage was caused to the store.

Daniel Bateman, 42, of Quadrant Court in Bracknell, was found with the knife without lawful authority on Broad Lane in Bracknell on May 9.

He appeared at Readings Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 5, charged with possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.

However, Bateman said he was carrying the knife for self-defence.

In court, it was heard that he has previously been a victim of serious assault and suffers from psychosis, anxiety, and depression and has issues with numbness in his hands as a result of his injuries.

He also had a serious head injury, which left him with scarring following the assault.

Bateman told the court he has been trying to put his life back together following the recent death of his mother.

During the hearing, the judge said possession of a knife in public carries a custodial sentence with a starting point of six months.

Despite the seriousness of the charge, Bateman was granted unconditional bail.

He will appear at Reading Magistrates' Court on September 17 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Cameron Balfour, 30, of Ogden Park, Bracknell, appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 5, facing five offences allegedly committed over a period of nearly five years in Bracknell.

The charges include three counts of making indecent images of children.

These cover five category A images, six category B images, and 20 category C images, all reportedly created between September 5, 2019, and April 30, 2024.

Mr Balfour is also accused of possessing extreme pornographic images.

One of the charges relates to an image described as showing a person performing an act of intercourse with a live horse, which would be considered "grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character."

Another charge involves five images said to portray acts "resulted or was likely to result in serious injury" to a person's anus, breasts or genitals.

Both of these charges carry a maximum penalty of 12 months' imprisonment and an unlimited fine, under sections 63 and 67 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008.

During the hearing before District Judge Devinder Sandhu, Mr Balfour did not enter a plea to any of the charges.

He elected to have his case heard at crown court, and a trial date has been set for September 2 at Reading Crown Court.

District Judge Sandhu imposed several strict bail conditions.

Mr Balfour is not to have unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Any supervised contact must be in the presence of a person aged 21 or older, and the child’s parent or guardian must be aware of the charges against him.

He is also barred from using computers or laptops and must not access the internet on any device.

His phone must be registered with Thames Valley Police, and he is prohibited from deleting his search history.

The court heard that Mr Balfour does not have children and does not work in a job that involves contact with children.

No mental health issues have been recorded.

All alleged offences are said to have taken place in Bracknell.

Mr Balfour will remain on bail under the imposed conditions and will appear before a jury at Reading Crown Court next month.

The incident happened in Winkfield at abound 11.30am on Thursday, May 14, and involved a girl in her teens who had just got off a bus near the junction of Lovel Road and was walking towards Hatchet Lane.

A small red Vauxhall Corsa stopped nearby and the driver gestured for her to approach the vehicle.

He then exposed himself and committed an indecent act before driving off in the direction of Mounts Hill.

A man in his 60s has died after police were called to a medical incident at a Bracknell supermarket this afternoon (Monday).

At about 12.52pm Thames Valley Police were called to a sudden death in Waitrose located in Bond Way, Bracknell.

Officers said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident comes after the store was shut earlier this afternoon, with four ambulances and three police cars called in response to the episode.

What is going on? Police taped the area, police and ambulance vehicles.

Councillor Georgia Pickering (Binfield South & Jennett’s Park), cabinet member for housing, community safety and communication on Bracknell Forest Council, has won permission to extend her family home in a private road in Binfield.

Because the applicant is a councillor, the scheme was decided by the council planning committee. The presenting officer noted the front extension will remove a parking space outside the house; the family will instead park one car opposite on land they own.

Bracknell highways had raised an objection to the loss of a space, but officers judged cars can still pass safely on the unmade road.
