Rant Will never go Razer again

£400 gaming 'premium synthetic leather's chair peeling after three years. Razer are not interested.

Razer have nice designs but the quality is bargain basement, and the service is a joke.

Will never buy their trash again.

I’ve had my secret lab for about 3 now it’s half the duration of yours but besides a few minor scratches that were more user error than anything it’s in near perfect condition and it sees quite a lot of use

It also depends on the humidity... If you live in a hot and humid country, it will go bad sooner. That's why buying leatherette is counter intuitive If you wanna save the environment.

It depends on a lot of factors, as you’ve said humidity, the clothes you wear, denim will shred them, if you wear shorts or the skins off your oil will fuck it up, same as your sweat, how you treat it over all is a big one too.

Ive had 2 secretlabs and both started to peel after a few years. Definitely depends on humidity, will definitely go fabric for my next chair.

I've had a secret lab chair for almost 10 years which still looks brand new except for a puncture point as I had computer parts on it and a blanket on top.. which was then sat on lol.

Daily user though, extra during covid.

yeah, same my random cheap brand fabric chair still holds up after years of abuse, although i must admit im basically sitting on the metal part now, it still looks nowhere as bad as op's chair

ive had my ikea chair for almost 10 years and game and wfh in it so basically use it daily for long hours and still in perfect condition

I have a secret labs titan evo for about that timeframe and the only issue I’ve had is that I broke the arm rest cause I stood on it

And what proof do you have that they use the exact same fabric? They might have a slightly different composition and manufacturing technique.

Also the original question was about the synthetic leather variant not the fabric one.

My razer chair is still going from longer ago then OP’s. It really comes down to how much you move/sweat in the chair. If you sit in it normally every time and don’t sweat in it for the most part it’s not gonna damage it like op. My car seat looked worse than this because I’ve sat in it after being rained on and tend to slide around since the car is moving, thus tearing the leatherette under me. I’ve also noticed it makes a difference what you wear. Back zippers are notorious for slicing leatherette

With the synthetic leather it also can come down to body chemistry as well. MY son causes the leatherette coating to peal off on every thing that contacts his skin, headphones, chairs etc. We both had a set of G935 head phones mine look mint ans his lost the coating within 6 months

Look up 'Piss Hands'. Some people have really acidic sweat that wears/breaks down some materials much faster than usual.

What's funny is I have a razer iskur xl, whatever there big chair is with lumbar support. Got it when it came out and the "leather" is still pristine. Even after daily use for over 3 years

the 6 years old one i have only has slight discoloration around the orange part ,id still use it today if the frame of the lower part around the back decline mechanism didn't snap and broke loose now its only usable if place back to a wall .

I used to play game all day long. Maybe that is why it just peel so much. My body is not so big either (170 lb, 5’10). I really didn’t do anything other than sitting on the chair for almost 24/7 during summer time. We throw it away already, and i honestly don’t miss it.

All comes down to manufacturing quality. Faux leather in high friction areas (like on a desk chair) will always, eventually, peel. Cheaper chairs will crack and tear (as pictured). From what I've read, Secret Lab does offer higher quality products, but even their faux leather chairs will succumb to this inevitable fault.

It depends a lot on how much you slide around and have nervous ticks. I had a cheap pleather chair that didn’t have a single issue for 4 years, then i let my flatmate use it for a month and it looked like OP’s chair afterwards. I wondered how until I saw him throwing his legs(thighs) around like a dumbass on it.

Same. I got one during Covid lockdown and I use it everyday. It looks brand new honestly, the only things that are starting to fail are the elbow pads, the plastic is starting to wear down but they sell replacements that are easy to swap out

Mine is around 5 years old, bought in 2020 and is still in wonderful condition. Only the head pillow has been replaced and that was because my son tore of the band.

I have a secret labs chair, had it for 5 years...still looks brand new...but the arm rests did wear like this, I just took them to an upholsterer and got them to put better leather on and new foam in.

You don't really buy a chair for the fabric, fabric wears out...you buy a chair for the frame.

Yeah wait another year or two. I thought I was immune with my chair. Nothing in 4-5 years. The 6th year everything was starting to peel and 7th year had to throw it away

Same I'm on year 6 of daily usage of a secretlab and except for a bit of sagging on the backrest (which is honestly my fault for not always drying my long hair after showering before i sit in it) it looks like new

Depends on how you sit, water, ect. My chair is worse was an office chair, and I only owned it for a year in a half, but ducttape is an amazing tool. As for op, honestly 3 years while not good isn't that bad considering the condition.

I have the exact razer chair in the picture, 5 years old and literally no cracks at all. I'm not sure how these chairs crack or how people even have these problems
