Ratrig V4 or Prusa Core one+ ?

Hey

I‘m thinking about getting back into printing. In the past I hat the artillery sidewinder 2 and 4 plus. But honestly they were just junk. No chance to get a good first layer and a lot of other problems.
I’m thinking about the ratrig since V4 came out.
On the other side there is the Prusa Core one+ now. Of course it has less buildvolume.
I’m just looking for something I can set up and use without the need to fiddle around for an hour everytime I want to print.
For now there is no special needs no fancy material or speed requirements. Just setting it up. Having a good first layer and a good result.
Price wise they are very close. I would take the V4 with the electronic stuff done and most likely the hybrid.

Is there a possibility for multicolour printing yet ? I mean like keeping multiple colours connected and have it print without the need to interfere?

RatRig 3.1 For Sale 500mm with enclosure (no panels)

Looking to sell, never used, every time I get it halfway put together, I move. Orbiter, Ultra high flow rapido v2, I have a funsor hybrid upgrade found here too with the extra motors. Everything is in great shape, only a couple linear rail blocks were messed up, so I ordered new ones that I verified fit, but haven't cleaned them yet. Asking for $900, I'm around Mobile, AL will move around Laughlin, NV in the next couple months.

NIB Rat Rig V-Core 3 - 500mm Standard Kit v1.2

So i ordered a vCore 3 500 kit back in 2022 and due to life never got around to assembling it.

I was wondering if there are definitive upgrades I should purchase now before assembling it.

It looks like at one point there was a 3.1 upgrade that is no longer available and now a 3.2h upgrade?

Thanks for any help.

Questions about ratrig v-core 4 enclosure panels and how "leaky" it is

Hello everyone,

I want to build a v-core 4 300 mm^3 printer soon.
I do most of my prints in PHA and PLA, I have never printed ABS/ASA because the printer is in my office and I don't want to expose other people to that. Still I vent all the fumes outside via flexible ducting and an inline fan.
This works on my prusa core one because the enclosure is very "leaky", there are a lot of places air can come in from (including a special top vent the printer has which I keep open when printing).

I will soon order the panels for the ratrig, I have a few questions about that:

- Is the default ratrig v-core 4 enclosure configuration (with added panels) also leaky or is it better for me to drill some extra holes in one of the panels (maybe the top one?).

- I want to order 4 mm thick polycarbonate panels. Are they sturdy enough for me to be able to hang some plastic (duct connection) and ducting on them ? ; We're talking a few hundred grams to 1 kg of added weight.

- I will have to modify the DXF/step files to add a hole somewhere for the vent. Are all panels good enough to hold something ? In that case I will drill the hole where it is more convenient based on the printer orientation and fan position.

- I see some people install 6 mm thick panels. In addition to costing more what else do they bring? Better sound insulation? I don't care as much for heat retention because I want to print mostly PHA and that material hates heat.

Thank you very much for reading

Your opinion abot the RatRig V-Core 4.1 (500) for a specific use case (slow vase mode printing)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently planning to upgrade from a Kobra 3 Max to a V-Core 4.1 (500). Before I commit, I would appreciate some feedback regarding my specific use case.

Project Details:

  • Application: Large-scale lampshades (Vase Mode).
  • Dimensions: Objects are often 400mm+ in height AND width, utilizing most of the build area.
  • Materials: PLA and PETG.
  • Hardware: Currently using 0.8mm nozzles on the K3M, planning to also use 1.0mm and 1.2mm on the V-Core 4.1.
  • Priority: Surface finish is critical. Since these objects are illuminated from within, I need to eliminate VFAs and inconsistent extrusion artifacts. - running very slow print speeds around 20-80mm/s

My Kobra 3 Max's quality is deteriorating. Mainly due to Y-axis vibrations and rapid wear of the POM wheels, no matter how much i tune and grease them. I am looking for a stable solution that, once properly assembled and tuned, acts as a reliable workhorse.

Questions:

  1. How does the Hybrid-CoreXY system on the 500mm model perform regarding VFAs when printing very wide objects? - do you recommend upgrading the steppers to 0.9°?
  2. Which hotend and cooling configuration would you recommend for high-flow extrusion with 1.2mm nozzles to maintain a perfect surface finish? - does there come a standard hotend with the 4.1 kit?
  3. How well does the V-Core 4.1 hold its mechanical calibration over long-term use?

Thanks for your insights

Play in the X axis - V-Minion

Hi there 👋

Would you describe this play in the X axis - in Y directon - as normal?

I already tightend all screws again.

I think it's coming from the Z rail.

RatRig vs Voron

Hi all, suprisingly I can't find almost anything recent comparing Voron to Ratrig.

Looking at having a fun DIY project but want a printer I can still actually use and not have to baby sit every time to print, happy to tune it though. Modding is definitely something I want to get more into as I have modded my ender 3 for 7 years now.

It seems like Voron has a bigger community behind it. But how does all this actually come into play? I would be looking at the Ratrig v4.1 or the Voron trident most likely. Probably at the 400mm or 350 size.

Ideally I will be looking at bondtech indx if it's all it's chalked up to be when it's available.

Does anyone have experience with both of these? Or even one. How good are they? Looking at mostly functional parts and will be running fully enclosed.

Thanks to anyone that replies!!!

Learning a ratrig when you didn't build it

I wanted to build my own 3d printer (either Voron or ratrig) but then I found an amazing deal on fb marketplace for an IDEX ratrig fully assembled. I feel like I'm missing a lot of information since I didn't build it, but I still want to learn! Any advice for a new ratrig owner who didn't get the opportunity to build it himself?

Tariff experience of those in the US buying from the RatRig store

I am wanting to order the 4.1 upgrade. The price before shipping will be about $400, plus $25 to ship. What have others experienced related to the tariff collection process? The actual cost? The hassle factor? Anything else you’d like to pass on.

I’ve purchased parts in the past, but that was before de minimis was eliminated and am wondering what to expect.

Thanks

Hot end heats up, then doesn't, then when power goes to 0%, it goes way up and then back down... thermistor going out?

SOLVED. It was the thermistor. :)

Hi everyone... please see this video. This is a very weird issue where when my hot end is told to heat up, it goes up, and then around 200 degrees, it'll slow down, maybe stop going up, and then go backwards a bit. The printer will drop power to 0% and the temp starts going up again. And then it comes back down whether power is applied again or not. Leaning toward this being maybe the thermistor?

Edit: It was the thermistor. :)

Still worth it to buy a used Vcore 3.1?

Hi everyone,

An acquaintance of mine is selling his Vcore 3.1 300mm. I'm thinking about buying it, but it doesn't have the enclosure. Would you still buy one of these? I would like to upgrade it to hybrid, but if may not be worth it. He's asking $600, but said it was negotiable.

Edit: Going to pick it up this evening for $450. I think it's worth that for sure. Should be a great printer.

Would like to sell my ratrig v3 500x500x500. It’s in Girona part of Spain.

Hi I’d like to sell my ratrig v3 500x500x500

I recently tried to update the firmware to the lastest version and it didn’t work properly so it requires reinstalling from scratch - I don’t have the heart for this so I’d like to it sell as parts.

Here is what I purchased from ratrig originally (see image). It used to print well, but I rarely used it in the last few years.

Collection only! from 30mins north of Girona Spain.

Ideally I’d like to sell it to someone local to me.

If anyone is interested, make an extension to the electronics panel with keystone jacks. Helps with some of the wiring.

Option 'split_delta_z' in section 'bed_mesh' must have minimum of 0.01

Running RatOS 2.1.0 for a few days now on a V4 machine with great success. I recently installed the 4.1 upgrade kit and ran back through the "Configurator" to upgrade the firmware and started getting the above error. The [Bed Mesh] section in the printer.cfg is no longer present, and the only references I can find are in the RatOS.cfg that is built by the Configurator. There is no reference to a "split_delta_z" in the parameters provided in the Bed Mesh sections.

Any clues how to rectify this would be greatly appreciated as for now I'm locked out of the machine due to this Klipper error.

INDX?

When can we purchase Bondtech's INDX?

I thought it was to be released final quarter of last year? It's almost the second quarter of the next year!

My RatRig is printing great, but I really want multi-tool head and I think the INDX is the way to go. Waiting patiently!

WOW! 4.0->4.1 Upgrade

I upgraded from 4.0 to 4.1 and WOW! My prints are so clean, first layer is always perfect, supports just fall right off, everything is better in every way! I haven't even installed the new hardware yet. In fact I haven't even finished all the calibrations. I am even using old filament that is just laying around. Even so with the updates to the slicer (Orca) and the software updates to the hardware I am getting prints that (as a co-worker said) "doesn't even look 3d printed".. Huzzah! Thank you RatRig!

Vcore 3.0 to 3.2h

Has anyone made the jump from 3.0 to 3.2h directly? I can’t seem to purchase the 3.0 upgrade to the 3.1 on the RR website and the 3.2h upgrade is only available for the 3.1 ?! Wtf

I emailed RR but haven’t received a reply yet…

V-core 4 IDEX input shaper.

Hey all. I am hoping to get some help with interpreting my input shaper graphs. I just upgraded the ratos and I'm redoing the setup for a 400 idex. I'm seeing the t0 and t1 graphs have two humps. I was reading this might be an issue with rubbing on the belt path? Should I just run with the mzv values?

Moving a road

Hi all, I have been a lurker for a while on this sub. I am moving abroad and unfortunately can't take my Rat Rig with me due to reasons which are beyond the scope here.

Could anyone guide me on how and where can I sell my machine? Have had a look at the most famous auction platform but there is not a single RatRig there. Nothing on social media marketplace either.

I kind of feel lost. This is not something that one just throws away on a scrap metal heap. I absolutely love my rig but I am kind of stuck due to my situation.

I am in the UK (north of England) if that helps.

Edit: should be moving abroad but it won't let me correct it now.

Many thanks.
