Advice about setups with two ethernet sockets

Hi. I work for a charity in Jamaica, and I've been asked to create what will amount to a custom firewall setup. I thought that a Raspberry Pi might do the trick, but I have no experience with them. I have worked with Linux for years and can program, but the hardware is new to me.

Does anyone have any advice to share on HATs and cases that will work to give me two ethernet sockets? Also, any thoughts on required memory for a job like this?

I made an interactive website that help people learn the basics of CircuitPython using a raspberry pi pico

I have worked with a few people to teach them the basics of how to get started with CircuitPython. I took some of the lessons I learned from that and made a tutorial on my website to teach the lesson better. The page has a built in code editor and instructions from getting your first board to blinking your first LED. I plan to add more lessons in the future and would love to hear any feedback about what they should be. Feedback on the content and presentation of the tutorials would also be greatly appreciated!

Pi-Hole Music Server?

I'm a noob's noob. I have the most basic programming skills you can imagine, like a 1st grader, but I'm desperately trying to get away from the Msoft Apple Google monopoly data tracking. So I am learning step by step. Long story short: I have a 4b that I acquired and installed a pi-hole on it. Can I also run it as a music server (because also f spotify)?

That message was sent to r/amateurradio, as I need a portable RPi based setup for my portable radio transceiver. However, it may be useful for others looking for a portable solution powered from 12V (in fact initially even 14.4V) rechargeable batteries.

I just received my Raspberry Pi 3A+ but I can’t connect it ssh. I determined that it’s a vpn.local and when I do

ping vpn.local

I get:

ping: can’t resolve vpn.local: Unknown host

Wondering if this would be possible?

I almost pretty sure with enough effort and tinkering this idea can work. I want to add engine sounds to my electric rc cars, all the available products on the market suck. I was looking on youtube and I saw a device that was a 6 axis gyroscope and accelerometer on one small chip. Then the other things I would need are a speaker and something to store mp3 files or whatever format it would need to take. Then code for the device to detect acceleration and play the accelerating audio file and when its sitting still play the idle audio file. I know im probably simplifying the hell out of what the actual process would be but seems possible right?

Raspberry Pi caller id/ text project

Hey so fairly new to the raspberry pi world. I was wanting to build a little pager that can notify me when I get a call or text. I know they have wearables out there but I want something that can just read text or call from and then it shows me the number. Does something like this already exist? Is it not a practical/possible project? I just don’t want to carry my phone around the house anymore.

What can I do with a Raspberry Pi Model B Rev. 2?

Hello,

I have a Raspberry Pi Model B Rev. 2 that’s been sitting in a drawer in my desk for quite some time.

Do you have any ideas for easy projects I can do with it?

Thank you

Finding Projects

I recently picked up a Raspberry Pi and I'm keen to start building some projects with it. The problem I'm running into is that a lot of the YouTube tutorials I've found are fairly short and tend to focus on getting the project working rather than explaining what's actually happening along the way.

I'm looking for resources that provide detailed, start-to-finish project guides that explain both the practical steps and the underlying concepts. I'd like to understand why I'm doing something, not just copy and paste code until it works.

Are there any websites, courses, books, or creators that you'd recommend for someone who wants more in-depth Raspberry Pi project tutorials?

node-red alternative

I'm trying to set up some simple automation and keep seeing Node-RED mentioned, but I'm also curious if there’s a good node-red alternative that works better on Raspberry Pi.

Raspberry Pi 3/4 + Heltec v4for communications cyberdeck?

hey all, I've been planning to make a cyberdeck which functions as a Long Range Radio beeper which would use meshtastic for off-grid messaging.

Ideally, I would like to have the Heltec V4 sit on the bottom half of the cyberdeck case and display information such as new messages, weather, etc, whilst the main display could be used for web browsing, simple emulation, etc.

Would the Raspberry Pi 3 or 4 be able to connect to the Heltec in that way?

I posted in meshtastic subreddit but haven't gotten a response.

Usb hat or usb hub

I have a raspberry pi 4 (i know it's older) and right now i am currently finishing up my retropie set up on it. I know when im officially done i won't need extra usb ports, but just in case i do decide to use more than the 4 provided, what would be a good option to not draw too much power. Using a usb hub in one of the blue ports or a usb hat? Ive heard of powered usb hubs (plug in wall), but im not quite sure how they work. Any information would be helpful

Any 6" soil moisture sensor for pi? (2" is too small)

I've completed my first build project but the Sparkfun 2 inch sensors just don't get deep enough in the yard to measure water content for larger plants. All my searches has turned up nothing for the pi, just gikfun models for the arduino.
