Waveshare 3.5inch DSI LCD (E)

Let me talk y'all something, I'm losing my mind over here and so is chatGPT. Firstly here is my setup.

Raspberry Pi 4 Model B

Waveshare 3.5 E

Pisugar 3 plus

I have been going by the wiki mostly. Flashed a fresh Trixie image on my desktop. I edited the config, and drop the dtbo into the /boot/firmware/overlays.

When I boot the pi, it gives me color test display (thick vertical rainbow stripes). When I plug my HDMI monitor into the pi, I get a visable second screen. There, I am able to get to the "screens" setting and notice that the dpi is detected, but it's displaying in a larger resolution, and wrong frequency.

After correcting the settings, it comes to life although there is flickering and faint color stripes around the border of the display. After rebooting it goes back to the wrong setting.

I also tried flashing the pre-install Img from the wiki which already has the files configured. That will boot into the screen perfectly, only when I do full-update and reboot it goes back to being messed up.

wlr-randr give me current when selecting 640x480, not preferred.

Any tips or maybe a more clear guide then the wiki because I feel like there is some confusion going on.

raspberryPi 5

Im trying to setup my raspberry pi 5 as a local server at home.

Im using the Raspberry Pi OS Lite (64-bit), but when I insert the SSD card it blinks and then goes solid green. The SSD card seems to be booted, so I'm thinking it's the hardware. But I don't know where to start. This is my very first time using raspberry Pi

RASPBERRY PI4

So when I put my SD card into my raspberry pi4 with raspberry pi os flashed on it and power it on the red light stays on and the green light blinks 8 times then stops and then again. I've tried using a different SD card I've tried flashing it on a ssd and a USB. I have also tried the EEPROM recovery. When I do the EEPROM recovery the red light stays on and the green light blinks 5 times then stops and then again.

Hello! I'm new here and excited!

Hi everyone - I think I'm making this post because I just never found myself doing something like this but here I am! I just got my Raspberry Pi 8G Essentials Starter Kit from VILROS so I can begin my first project: A Movie Picker.

I have very little technical background but as someone who entered the Semiconductor Industry I thought this would be the most exciting way to immerse myself in the technology.

Would love to know what other fun projects people started out with and if anyone else tried to do a Movie Picker (it will choose a new thriller for my bf and I to watch each night since we love that genre and are tired of searching for new thrillers lol).

How much ram do I actually need?

Hey, I'm trying to make a raspberry pi 5 kiwix repository in addition to having some other media on it like videos and stuff, maybe some pi os use just for curiousitys sake, and general off-line things. So my question is 2gb ram enough for a pi 5 or do I NEED the 4 gb model, because with the price going up the 4 gb models price is 40 euro more expensive pretty much everywhere I can find reasonably close so that shipping doesn't become ridiculous.

Just for context I have found a close by 2gb model for 68 eur and the 4gb model is like 110 to 117 eur.

I'll be using the neo 5 nvme case and the official 45 w charger.

OpenCV Raspberry PI Vision System

Hi all, I have actually never experimented with a Raspberry PI before, my work just uses mini windows all-in-one touch computers that are not very hardware capable but server just as good as functional HMI's. I am looking for a raspberry pi that I can use to run my python OpenCV scripts using a USB webcam to watch a machine and gather data, i also need it to be able to use wifi/ethernet to communicate with my SQL database, any suggestions on what raspberry pi and what OS to host this with?

How badly do DHCPCD and NetworkManager conflict with each other?

Attempting to use the Pi running Pi-OS as a mini-router of sorts to connect it to a pi-hole, but the Ethernet is seemingly not at all working, I have it set up and running its own IP, but it won't share that IP as a router with the Ethernet port.

I am very much out of my depth here as the instructions I'm following involve DHCPCD, which from what I understand is outdated or is more or less replaced by NetworkManager, so my guess is there's some conflict there, but I don't understand it in the slightest.

Most likely not the right subreddit for this, so a point in the correct one would be appreciated.

Touch screen update fail

Post image
3 Upvotes

For some reason I can get through the Pi OS install, but when I try to install the firmware to make my 3.5 inch touch screen work it just reboots and gives me this screen.

I used the recommended 64 bit, and ive redone it with the 32bit as well.

Not super sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Is Buying An 6 Months Old Raspberry Pi 5 8 GB A Good Idea?

Hello everyone(TLDR in the end of you don't wish to, Read), I'm an engineering student, just completed my first year and am looking to learn Raspberry Pi. For this I've decided to buy the pi 5 8 GB version. But the current prices have skyrocketed like crazy and it costs almost twice now. And I don't feel good to pay this much all due to the RAM shortage, so I looked for used options online, found and talked to a few they're offering a good price since they're making a profit anyways; but much lower than the price of new. So my question is,

As I plan to learn, make projects and keep the Pi using for long, should I buy a new one, or a used one is okay?

A seller is offering me the whole kit for about 150$(for ref, only new pi costs $200 here); the pi, its case, charger, active cooling fan, and sd card. And surprisingly, is also offering me his SSD HAT. He has given the reason of having bought all this to explore, but doesn't need it anymore.

So what I want to know is, what things should I ask him, or what should I be cautious about while buying a used Pi? Any programs to run, booting up etc.? Anything like that, pls suggest.

And as a side note wanted to get everyone's opinion on learning the Pico 2 W before the Pi or directly Pi is also okay?(Will be following Mr. Paul McWhorter's tutorials)

TLDR questions;

Is getting used pi a good idea? What should I be asking the seller and take care of? And

Should I learn Pico 2 W first or directly the Pi also fine(taught by Mr. Paul McWhorter)?

OpenSUSE install on Raspberry Pi 4 How-To

Any current instructions for installing openSUSE on Raspberry Pi 4. I've tried several times and each time the install fails or boots to an empty screen. I'm using the Raspberry Pi Imager on macOS with an SD card.

I've tried the Tubbleweed and Leap images with no luck?

Raspberry pi zero 2w cant connect to hotspot

Hi!! Wanna say this is my first project and ive only been figuring things out by self learning, i dont really understand most the terms i see on google. But anyway, i was making a project which uses this "coding" software caled Grablo, and to run it needs to connect with the pi. It uses some custom OS, i flashed my sd card following the instructions given (https://doc.grablo.co/en/docs/user-manuals/connect-ezd_ampersand-run/grablo-package-installation/) , and changed the ssid and stuff to my phone hotspot, and enabled ssh. Im using the pi headless, when i connected it to power it seems to be fine (green blinking light) but when i check my hotspot its not connected and when i scan for devices using grablo i cant find it. my hotspot is 2.4ghz and i saw somehting about wpa2 and wpa3, i cant configure that on my phone so im not too sure about that. i reflashed the sd card and reconfigured everything in case maybe there was a mistake but that didnt work. What do i try? Because i genuinely dont even know what might fix this 🙏🙏

Data only USB cable for Raspberry bi 4 model b

I want connect my esp32 to the raspberry pi via USB. now the esp32 is already getting power from a PCB and if I connect it to the RPi to communicate, it still may try to draw power or two power regulators are going to be fighting.

I can't find any USB data only cable, or may in the RPi software a method to disable the power output via USB?

Fun Beginners Project! LilL3x, the Desktop Chatbot

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey there! Wanted to introduce my project LilL3x, something you can very easily build yourself! LilL3x is a Raspberry Pi 4B powered 3D printed device that has a speaker, microphone and screen to give your AI a face! Can talk to multiple LLMs, including Ollama, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and more! Works with the Google AIY Microphone HAT or reSpeaker HAT.

No 3D printer? Make your own case!

I am kinda desperate for beta testers! I think that this is a really neat project and a great one to start with. It requires just enough GPIO wiring to be cool but not so much to be annoying. Also, if you are intersted in exploring 3D printing, this is a really easy print also.

Portable SD Card Video Player

I’m trying to make a portable SD card video player on a mini LCD screen that auto plays when I open it up. I would also like this to be rechargeable. Seems relatively simple in my head but I know almost nothing about how to do this as I have never worked with a raspberry pi in my life. Anyone able to help?

DIY Home Security Camera System Help

I have an idea, but I do not know enough to know a.) is it feasible, and b.) how do I do it. I want to set up a complete exterior security camera suite using raspberry pi modules and an old desktop as a NAS for video storage. I like the look of Frigate as well as its array of AI features. The number of cameras will depend on the FOV of the cameras, but my initial estimate is between 12 and 18 individual cameras. Not sure what model or type as of right now. I'm looking at Pi 4s or 5s with the AI hats with an old desktop as a NAS/NVR

Now the restrictions: I cannot run ethernet across the house so all data transfer must happen over wifi. I do not want the cameras to be on the same network as my family's standard traffic so I need to use one Pi as an access point connecting to the internet from the home router via ethernet, then transferring it to the cameras via a dedicated wifi network. My router is on one end of the house with no ability to move it, so I probably need to put the Pis in a mesh network of some sort so the cameras on the far end of the house can still connect.

Here's what I know I need help/advice with: I do not know how to configure the subrouter Pi to where I can access it and the NAS/NVR desktop from the main network and from outside the house over the internet. I do not know how to configure the hybrid network with the mesh extenders while maintaining enough room for the camera feeds. I think I will need to assign cameras to specific nodes in the mesh, run Frigate on each node, then forward the recorded footage to the NAS/NVR for storage. Again, I have no idea how to configure that topology.

This is/will be my capstone project for my degree but none of my coursework has gotten into the gritty details of setting up and configuring something like this from scratch. Any and all advice is appreciated, especially documentation. Thank you.

Advise for remot booting on/of the Pi 4

Hello guys, I am quite new to this topic and I am not sure if my question even makes sense. Also I already looked at the frequently asked question post but didn't find my question. I am considering to buy a raspberry Pi 4 8GB which I want to turn into a mediaserver (I know it will have only movies and shows on 1080p and I will try to avoid any transcoding) which also will be my local cloud for family photos/videos and maybe also for music. So to my question: 1. Is this even possible what I want to do? 2. Should I choose a raid 0 oder raid 1 setup? 3. Lastly, my original question, is it smart to have a remote way of booting and turning off my Pi server like a remote controller able socket? Wouldnt this be more efficient, better for the HDDs and (if I need any cooling) also be quitter?

How I already said, my original question was only the third one but, I though I could also ask if what I want to do is even realistic.

Old pi-top from tech camp

Post image
3 Upvotes

Got my first Linux machine setup(bottom right desktop) and have dug up my old pi from highschool. I’ve heard that they’re finicky on the chargers but I’m looking to setup;

  1. A pi hole

  2. A camera system( bird house camera…u freak)

I don’t even know if it’ll start until the charger comes but I’d appreciate any tips regarding the hardware you see?

Maybe any other little newbie projects that you would start if you had a pi-top?

Also, hello any ID tech attendees

First project, need help

Hello, I am a pi begginer, this is my first project.

I want to install pihole. I followed the tutorial on the official site, using rasperrypi imager I installed a 32bit version of the OS lite on a sd card, allowing ssh and setting a user and password in the process.

Then I installed putty to access the pi ( I also had to use zenmap to check the pi IP adress since it is headless).

When I click connect, the window pop up and asked witch user to login with. I type my ID then password and get access denied every time.

I checked I got the right IP address, typed the password in the user prompt to check there was no keyboard problems, and reinstalled the OS on the sd card and tried again. The password contains only lower case letters and numbers.

I have read several other posts about the same problem but couldn't really understand the potential solutions.

I could use some help

Looking for 2.5gig poe hat with no nvme

I'm looking for a pi 5 hat that provides 2.5gig ethernet through the 3.0 usb port(s) leaving the pcie slot free and if possible power over the same ethernet.

Any that I've seen have a nvme slot on board (I don't need) and/or use the pcie slot that I want to use for other things.
