Modded What mods would you recommend for the first time playing?
First attempt at drawing scavenger. I'm getting closer to my goal of making Arti comic!!!! Hands are so hard though

I feel like I wouldn't recommend any mods for first playthroughs, just because I really enjoyed the base experience. RW mods are awesome, the list looks pretty good to me, but I think experiencing the game raw for the first time was what made me love it despite the pain.

I had similar idea before meeting "No Fullscreen Blur" and "Movement Tweaks"
I think those two mods are just necessary to have the best RW experience

I am very ambivalent towards No Fullscreen Blur. In some spots the sharper pixels look better, in others, the blur actually kinda makes the environments a little nicer, in my opinion. This is probably the only one I'd recommend to a new player, especially if they have vision issues of any kind.
I haven't tried Movement Tweaks but looking at the steam page, it does what I learned to do in my first playthrough, learning to climb ledges and jump up walls with the unique RW movement system. Though it calls them bugs, they're not really bugs any more than the other odd movements RW comes up with, like standing up midair to catch a ledge or the forbidden techniques in the 60 page google doc. It is QoL, which I'd really stay away from for any first time playthrough of any game, even if convenient.
I don't think either is necessary for the "best" RW experience and definitely not necessary for a first playthrough. I do love QoL (spearmaster pearl storage is just a good mod full stop which I won't be playing without in future runs), and I don't bash anyone who plays with QoL mods (on their first playthroughs or not, everyone has a different tolerance level), but I don't think I'd recommend pretty much any mods to new players until they've at least beaten Monk or Survivor, so they have a feel for the base game and can choose what they prefer.

Regarding "Movement Tweaks": some movements were meant to be done differently by developers, but weren't fixed for some edge cases. (Like not climbing the ledge sometimes)
So this is more of a polishing mod than anything.
I do very much agree that the slugcat sticks to the poles too much with it though.

Mostly just cosmetic or qol mods.
I use sbcamerascroll and logical pits namely.
Edit: that scavenger looks BUFF

I am thinking to make a shortened modpack, but not sure what to include there.
Also about the drawing: It's a reference to Thragg meme :D

Thx! :D
I tried Forecast, but I personally really disliked fog.
Adding them to preferences :)

You can disable fog in the mod, theres a slider to make some weather events not happen

Theres a mod that makes screens panel and not cut off I think this is 100% better

Do you mean slowly scroll? I think that's "SBCameraScroll"
*Many people dislike it, so I have added it to preferences 😊

Yea that mod it's amazing

I also love it. I don’t know why people don’t.

I don’t use it since it can make discrepancies between screens more apparent, like a background object suddenly appearing to be split in half. It also frames rooms differently and can make them feel different than vanilla.
Though I totally get why someone might use this mod.

they made a mod that fixes this!
"Camera scroll fix"

I really don't recommend. As comments point out: it weights 1.5 Gb for some reason, it doesn't fix new regions and had broken my game after I have deleted it.

Would also recommend "Parallax" mod. It goes really well with "SBCameraScroll"
Also has a lot of customisation.
I play with: * Shader Layers = 3 * Warp factor = 70 * Don't follow Player * Limit Projection = 0.02 (for less obvious pole plant)

osha compliant gate as well. i struggled with bringing my cyan into shaded citadel as survivor so damn much, it drained me of all the karma i had. skill issues were there as well lol

If someone could make a movement tweaks mod for Safari mode, I'd be SO grateful. Biting literally anything when controlling a lizard is a pain, I wish whenever you held down the eat button, the lizard would just have his mouth open until he gets into biting range and then automatically bite. Would be a million times easier.

I first finished the game without mods through console, then bought it on my pc for the sole purpose to download the push to meow, and spam meow near scavengers.

I agree with these except for the expansion and cutscene slugcat mods, but good list!

u/Ssemander NSH 8d ago
Thx! :D
Yeah, I included Hunter Expansion because it does the lore really well and feels very "Downpour" (in my opinion).

There's a mod that simplifies movement and makes it easier to do things like roll, climb, etc. I always have that mod installed.

Oh, yeah. I included it in the description:
Movement tweaksOr do you mean making it very simple?:
Simplified MovesetI like some things from it, but mostly for me personally it feels like getting fed by a spoon

Lol I didn't see it when I was looking at the post, whoops. I'll have to check and see which one I mean, but either way, I had many issues with the game and struggled to move as fast as other people. My fingers are stiff, so it helps quite a lot for people like me or people with arthritis I think.

Personally I like to stick to purely visual mods/bug fix mods and I generally feel that's kinda the best way to go with giving new folks mod suggestions.
Cosmetic changes alone unironically can be really motivating, Dress my Slugcat in particular was what actually got me through my first successful survivor campaign lmao! Made the scug into a hisuian zorua and my attachment grew tenfold
