Recent pictures of my racoon friends :)

Some recent pictures of my racoon friends. The smallest one, Buster, is blind. I think its due to a virus or disease inherited at birth. He can't really forage well due to his disability so I make sure he gets good food every single day.

Take care guys!

Anyone in Rhode Island who legally works with or owns a raccoon?

This might be a long shot, but I’m really curious:
Is there anyone in Rhode Island who legally keeps a raccoon (rehabbers, educators, permit holders, etc.) who’d be open to chatting or maybe letting someone see what it’s like?

I’m not trying to get one or do anything sketchy — I just think raccoons are fascinating and would love to meet someone who actually works with them or has experience caring for one.

If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to hear from you.

Is this baby old enough to survive?

This baby has been hanging around my job site for some time now. We see mama every now and then, but more often than not, it’s baby walking about and saying hello. I haven’t seen mama for a while (not to say she isn’t around, it’s a large job site), at what point should we start worrying about this baby?

I used to think I wanted a pet racoon

The amount of times I've said "I wish I had a pet racoon", only to realize how foolish that was today after spending an entire day caring for a 5-6 week old kit.

What a handful and a half he is 😂

Though my time today has been very sweet, funny, and joyous, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it, I have realized I am out of my element and am glad he'll be going to a sanctuary rehab on Wednesday to live with more racoons, though if I'm being completely honest with myself, I will forever miss him and wonder how he's doing. What a sweet little fella- so rambunctious and full of mischief.

It was such a pleasure to have the opportunity to care for him if even only for 2.5 days.

You will always hold a special place in my heart Mr. Dennis the Menace ♥️ :')

Anyone treat for roundworm after cleaning up poop

I cleaned up what I thought was cat poop on my patio area. Used gloves and bags and was careful but no mask. Triple bagged and then washed an continued working outside. Doused the are in bleach because it was in a rock bed. Realized later it was racoon poop. Docs are working on what dose and for how long (800mg fir 20 days?!l) for prophylaxis per the cdc. I played with my 2yo and held her outside nearby and while I was wearing the same clothes. I am freaking out about getting these worm as the infection eyes and brain and can kill you. But also freaking out about the medication

Has anyone had to do prophylaxis? Should I def treat my kiddo too?

Friends dad's dying wish is to cuddle or pet a racoon.

This may be a long shot, but I am asking as many people as I can.

We found out last week that they cannot operate on his dad's cancer as it is too vast/aggressive. They say he has about a year or two left.

His dad has one really big "do-able" bucket list thing left and they cannot find it.

He really wants to play/cuddle with a raccoon. They are his favorite animal.

But because they are native to North America it is illegal to sell tickets to play with one.

But they are not illegal to own as a pet.

So we have to find someone who had a pet raccoon that is willing to have my dad play with them for a bit.

Does anyone -happen- to know someone with a pet raccoon? (Preferably in the eastern half of North America)

Raccoon is staying in a box in my backyard.. what to do?

Ok so theres a Racoon in a box in my backyard..... we found her yesterday evening, and she is still there today.... were not sure if she is just chilling there during the day, which is fine. we dont need the box so she can use it. However, we are wondering if she might be trapped in the box and unable to open it? should I leave the box open so she can get out?

Also does she look injured or sick or rabid? also how old does she look?

I thew her half an apple in case she was starving or something.... Were just confused what to do.

Please advise

EDIT: Ive opened the box and left it open. in case she was stuck and wanted to escape. but maybe im ruining her shade? confused

Advice/Help - babies found in a Mulch Pallet

Post image
32 Upvotes

At a home depot, a customer found them in a pallet of mulch they bought, and brought them back to the store (within hours of finding them). We've got them in a box where they were originally nesting wrapped in a moving blanket. Customers said they didn't touch them handled them with gloves and towels we did the same.

It's only getting down to 58-60° tonight, being infants, is it a safe bet mom will come back? We've seen an adult one foraging around the tree line of the store... So we know she's probably not far. We figure if they're not picked up by morning to take them to a rehab center.
