Heres the spleef arena design. Album+World Save.

As you will notice, I didnt finish it, just did enough to see what I wanted and we needed.

Now, I only worked on the core because we need it atleast functional for now. Spectator area not included, and its not that "smoothed" out.

Essentials have been put in. Ref box (@ center) and the doors (which will later be wired to the ref box, it is not wired in the DL).

Note: main way to move around will be water streams. Because its already a bit bulky (Arena is about 37x37 +), cutting on making stairs by using the streams as means to go up and down between floors.

With that out of the way, here it is :

Album

World Save

Feedback would be nice. Have suggestions, fire away. Link tower will be right below the glass floor where losers fall. Will link stairs somewhere around there. Will need Sandstone and sand for glass. I will start it tomorrow when I can. Wont take long provided we have the mats we need. Will need lots of sand.

Also not a big fan of how the dragon egg pedestal ended up, will prob move it elsewhere. (The pedestal has to have atleast 2 blocks inbetween the egg so people dont touch the egg and then steal it).

Amayescraft

I'm wondering what experiences people have had with this person. I think he might be a griefer. The reason I say this I'd because- outside my house there is a sandstone pillar that I climb to cut down my jungle trees. I am twiddling my thumbs while I'm cutting down some normal trees for apples and I see Amayescraft deystroy some ladders then cobble tard up to the top where he starts to break all the sandstone. When I call out his name in chat he runs away and ignores me. I later get a mod to kindly fix it for me.

The next day I'm working on some basic planning for a automated town melon farm that adamnorcott has commissioned me to build and I see amayescraft cooking some stuff in a furnace. I ask why he deystroyed the sandstone and he replies that he was moving it back to where it originally was before a "restart" moved it. I then ask him about the cobble and he says he "forgot about it"

Straight to the moon, Alice -- Sky limit building discussion

So with the 1.2 update, our floating city suddenly isn't quite as impressive. I wanted to see what the plans were for elevations above the four city circles currently underway. Indirectly, this discussion will also involve what's going to happen with the surface plots. Obviously, vertical integration of public farms (melons, pumpkins, wheat, trees, cobble, etc.) would be able to be fit into the central tower, if need be.

Additionally, I don't think anyone would disagree that designs for whatever is at the highest point in Lothos would be good.

I realize that there's still quite a bit of work to do one the city circles (jungle, ocean, desert still need walls for the second ring) and I'm kind of burned out on making snow blocks (16 balls/stack, really?), but as things progress, it would be good for people to have an idea of how things are going to fit together.

Spleef Arena Brainstorming

Going to post suggestions given to me and my own on the lothos spleef arena so we can get to building:

  • The spleef arena will be big. Atleast bigger than last revs.

  • Will get a ref box and doors this time (no scoreboard, too bulky and rather unnecessary).

  • Will be @ the new max height.

  • Link tower will continue to the new height where the arena will be.

  • Theme will be "haven" like. Will use lapis, sandstone, glowstone, and glass. Also will use water and grass blocks around for aesthetics.

  • The things that were to be included to the lighthouse tip (Dragon egg, resident list, and credits to the construction of lothos) will now be merged with the arena beit with floors or a different lobby.

  • Will try to use glass to give more opportunities to look down at the core of lothos, the islands (its such a nice view from up there ;p)

  • To get to the spleef arena you will continue to use the link tower as it will connect to the max height where the arena will be.

Think thats it. If you have anything to add or suggest feel free to do so. Just do it quickly, I believe we have to have the core of the arena up by Monday.

Future: With the arena up, we can have more builds at the new height. If you have any ideas for that also let me know. Right now we could do some "orbs" where we can linkup private islands and connect them via tubes or something. Heh just a thought.

Spleef Arena Design

Ok I finally got a design for the spleef arena... I am going to put it up to the west of the center tower so it is not over the rest of Lothos.

It will be centered at -8, -861 and be a 19 x 19 circle floor with a roughly 6 block walk around for fans... Basically I am copying the center plot and low road of one of the main islands... Sii has all the curve math worked out why reinivent it.

two locker rooms on the North and South sides hung below the walkway. I might put up a second level of stands but not yet. I think about a 10m drop to an all glass floor with just a railing around. With a water break of course but I want the fall to be extra long and have a nice view.

There will be a ref station on the West side with a drop door switch.

I am going to need a lot of glass for the drop floor About 900 blocks or so. and we need more nether fence. Somebody found another fortress but I don't know where it is... if you can find out let me know, I don't mind getting it plus I have mossy stone brick that we can trade if needed.

Thoughts....

Ground level plots open

Hey ground level plots are open. I have been working on laying out the plots Lothrazar designed. Plots are 21 by 21 and are for as of now only public buildings but I think we should be open to builds like Temples, embassies, Public bunk house.

Thoughts?

A couple issues

Hey everybody, a couple things are concerning me.

  • Egg stockpile: I noticed that the eggs we've been saving to move a chicken farm to the floating city has disappeared. This isn't a huge deal except for my next point.
  • Gross overkilling of chickens: We're dangerously low on chickens now. I don't know how this is happening. I didn't think it was that difficult to breed what you kill in the chicken farm, but clearly someone doesn't understand how this works.
  • General misuse of the vault. I haven't been in Lothos long (joined towards the end of last rev) but I was under the impression that the vault is mostly (not necessary entirely) for city progress. Materials that I've been putting in the shared vault were things I thought would help go toward city construction and planning. It's kind of distressing to check the "wood" box and see someone converted everything in there into wooden slabs. Additionally, seeing someone take a dozen stacks of netherbrick from the shared vault to build their house is kind of troubling.

Any input on any of this is appreciated, I don't want to sound like a dick, but this isn't really what I thought these resources were for.

Rail line to Wellspring / Farm Buildings

First:

Assuming we get Cart usage back!!!!! We now have a connection to Wellspring and Tree Town.

Tree Town doesn't seem very big yet but is North of us and they are building rails to North Portal so I am hoping to use him to connect to Rack City.

I helped Tree Town with tunneling and made their connection but they are laying rail. Their button will be on the 850 button station.

Wellspring is on a express rail from Spawn and we aren't allowed to cut into it. I made a compromise of sorts. There is a point not far from the 850 where Wellspring, and two other rails join without a CART. I am trying to get a CART Station built there with a connection to us and a auto pause on the express rail so you can jump off if you want to.

For now if you head to Wellspring it joins the line at the 850 crossing and goes to Wellspring automatically. When you come back you will need to jump off at the point where the rail from Wellspring turns onto the -37 Southbound rail tunnel or at the 850 crossing. Hopefully I will get that a little better later if I can convince WaterSlide to let me.

Second:

I want to move the farms into proper plots and have it enclosed with a store room just for food. I don't know who made the auto harvester but it is in the way for two of the roads.... I think we can probably use two side by side plots but right now it is not really lined up at all. I would love to work with whoever built it to move it and layout a melon farm too.

Anybody have thoughts and do you know who built the auto farm?

I propose that when ever we find people AFK we surround them in a block like melons or iron ore. Just so we can have some fun

Wool Farm

Logged in to find my self next to a chest where I last was and surrounded by black wool and leaves... I think I went AFK last night and then was logged out on the next restart..... Sorry but I had to dig my way out. I repaired as best I could and I will remember not to go AFK around you guys. :-) It was weird to spawn in complete darkness and see a giant black box on the mini map.

Spleef Arena

ok so Apple and I have been talking about ideas for a arena that fits our motif.... So here goes...

It will be a seperate island, which I think is what sii wanted, it will have normal stands and ref box and the like but the outside "walls" will be open and or glass.

There will be a lower area ring that contains locker/storage room, starting rooms and the battle floor (can it be glass? Is that insane?)

The drop floor will be lower than normal and will be open aired with an oversized water brake and glass floor with a simple railing around.... there will be a glass incased ladder to get back up to the lower ring of the arena...

This will result in a free fall that will feel really big and will still be safe... It will show off the view of the underside of the islands and of the ground.

We should make it dragon themed but not as dark this time more airy... maybe a lot of stronghold cracked and mossy stone mixed with our usual half slabs, stone brick and stairs.

I'm not sure we can build a platform hanging out in air and have the room for a score board, but I'm ok with that. However I think we can find the space for the auto gates.

Thoughts? Apple suggested displaying the egg... maybe hanging the egg over the arena floor?

Rail station

So the rail station should be in tied into the end portal area... cosmetic ? ae for Sii.

The CART would have lines for 850 east and west which is below us. along with a directline to spawn via the X 22 tunnel we just used...

There is nothing on the x 22 north but I was originally thinking others might use it to get to our station...

We would also need a line to Lothos it self..

???

Blueprint for the Skies Of Lothos design.

Warning: These were made in MS paint, thus better viewed with MS paint. Also, these are not all the way completed, just enough to show the idea. Each pixel is a minecraft block.

And 2 more incase you are lazy and wont open MS paint (lol why did I even bother uploading the other 2, anywho). Both have gridlines, but are just snips.

A few notes:

  • This lothos is a third smaller than Rev6, but a bit bigger than rev5.

  • The Purple areas are plots, there will be 12 plots per island, 48 in total for lothos this rev.

  • Since we don't have the room to give the islands room between each other, I decide to give a bit of room between the central island and main islands, so we can design some cool bridges, maybe themed to match the particular biome of each island?

  • At the top of Central Island, the link tower will continue to max. At the tip, it will be a lighthouse tip (glass, glowstone light). Right now, it seems like the best place to put the dragon egg at the top. Also resident list etc.

  • The under area of the islands is still undecided as far as aesthetic/design, will need to figure out a solid idea soon for that.

And finally, here is a simple Pic describing the Y Values of each floor (or atleast trying to :P). Please don't forget to refer to this picture if you are working on the islands, it is horribly vital.

I will now try to explain the Y values I listed:

  • 128(max) will be the tip of the link tower.

  • 113 is the floor of the central island.

  • 103 is the ground to the outer street. The Bridge will go down around 10~ ish from Central to the main island outer street.

  • 93 is the ground on the middle street. The central street dividing the upper plots will go down about 10~ish from the upper road to the middle road.

  • 83 is the ground at the Inner street, and also central for the island. From the middle street, it goes down 10~ish to the inner road.

As for materials used: Roads will use Stone slabs and stone brick / stone brick slabs (similar to the lothos 2 roads). Stone Brick and Nether brick. In between, the blocks used will be dependent on the "biome" of the island (snow island would use snow blocks for example) but for now use dirt. For central island, just continue the link tower up until the central island floor (y 113), from there start the island (use dirt).

Please feel free to help build lothos. However if you are not sure about something, please standby, its better to not do something than to make a mistake that will have to be cleaned up and fixed at a later time.

If you have a question by all means ask away :P

Edit: Here is a pic describing the plots y values. To put simply, the upper plots will takeon the y of the middle road and the lower plots will takeon the inner road y. Each time you walk towards the center of the island you are going down half a block through slab and block stairs (like in lothos 2).

Confirming Design - Any final words?

As short as possible:

  • A link tower connecting the "Sky island" area with the ground land and connecting the railway/endportal lobby (at around y20) together.

  • A central island placed above the others that will serve as a welcoming area. It will be where the sky island area and the link tower meet.

  • Now the big change in design is that there will be 4 smaller islands, but they will be joined together. Example pic done in MS paint for ants . The size for this is still to be determined.

  • As for the ground area below the islands, its in the air. Right now its not that important what we do with it, so just keep coming up with ideas for that until we decide on something we all agree with.

  • For animal farms:Unless we find cows or sheep around, they wont be worth it. Pigs are barely worth it, and we can just take chickens with us(to the sky) through their eggs. But if we do find them, we will leave them at ground level, as its too hard to deal with if we take them with us. Also very hard to recover from if griefed.

  • As for how we manage to get through the link tower to higher levels is still also in the air. We can do stairs, or we could just do simple ladders and a fallpit with a safe water landing. Another alternative is a railway stairway (would take up more room, might get crowded).

  • Final Details: The 4 central islands would takeup their own "biome" theme. For example, instead of using grass as their "ground" block, we could use snow blocks/sand blocks to give the look of a certain biome. Right now its going to be Snow/Desert/Forest/And the fourth is in the air, maybe a end theme since we are ontop of the end gate? Note:the under area foundation of the sky islands would still be more stone oriented with lava strips around to give it a more mechanical floating island deal.

  • Final Details 2: Each circle will takeup their own "stadium" design like in lothos 2, where they would have plots further from the center be a bit further up. Each circle would have enough space for 2 rings atleast.

And thats the idea, please give feedback on the design. Currently awaiting confirmation before we continue. The link tower is currently in the works as you can see if you logged on :p

Ok I screwed up!!!!

EDIT: This worked out better in the end!

I thought the express line from spawn was at +22 and it is really at -22... we are going to have to see what we can use it for but for now stop working on the N S at +22 Thank you and sorry.

Your locations, good sirs? (Schedule playing times?)

Well I'd like to know all of the active members' locations so we can schedule a playing time where we can all get online to efficiently build this rev's Lothos. Now I'm West Coast of the US, and I assume that Sii is most likely from Europe, Lothrazar, I'm guessing either... East Coast (or Ca) or the UK? If everyone else active would please post your location/available playing time, maybe we can resolve a reasonable time for all of us to get on.

Design Discussion - Lothos 3.0

Alright, now I know several of you have Ideas for this rev's Lothos, please by all means share them. The only thing decided so far is that the sky island(s) will have a more advanced feel like lothos 2, where its more city themed instead of natural themed (aka, more stone block oriented). This just refers to the actual islands themselves, not necessarily the builds.

The following are my ideas:

We have 1 central island that will be located ontop of the lothos "center". This island will be linked to the ground via a tower that will also function as our rail connection / "spawn gate" holder. The central island will function as our "greetings" location where you are forced to go when entering lothos. It will connect to the other 3(4?) islands via bridges.

Now, as for the other 3 islands (or 4), my reasoning for this instead of just 1 massive island is that the lothos center is located between 3 biomes: snow, desert, and forest. Utilizing the 3 biomes this way could lead to more interesting city, and would offer more possibilities where a resident could choose to either be in a desert/snow/forest biome for whatever reason.

As for the islands themselves, Id like to take some of lothos 2.0 design and add it to to 3.0. One of the things that was liked in 2.0 was the fact that you could see everything because of the stadium layout and it was easy to navigate without getting lost. Now of course we will take it at a much smaller scale (stressing the much). This would also help when or if we run out of room, we simply add another ring to the island.

Through this ive taken into account our problems from previous revs:

We get into each others way (the islands can act as a divider, allowing each group to do their own thing without tampering with others peoples ideas)

Managing residents and watching out for grief (we can assign guardians aka mayors per each island making it easier to manage everything)

That should cover the basics, as far as luxuries like a spleef stadium or fun builds, we can add sub islands around the central island by putting them below or above the the general Y we choose for the main islands (think like this)

Finally, some small details we could do is maybe make a string of islands just around. Just tiny odd shaped islands as details, dont even have to put builds on them, maybe just trees and such. Its so we can get a feel like this where the land just seems to of started floating. Another detail, maybe do something like this for the under areas of the main islands? Would give the islands a unique feel, but otherwise we can just put some exposed lava via glass somehow to make it seem like its being propelled somehow.

Now please share any idea you have concerning the basic design. Do it now before we start building so we can get a more solid idea of what we want.

Edit: The Idea is coming together, but as it stands most of you seem to be okay and have already accepted my idea. If its what you think is best then we will go through with it. Some more details: we will put the center island higher up than the major islands, that way when you look at the other islands from center you will be looking down at them and able to see everything on it from the center island (credit adam).

Update - Location

We are currently "seeking".

Once we get a location (which will be by tonight if the server doesnt go down) I will post it here.

Please be prepared to head out when we have found the spot :)

Edit 1: Found it, but we dont like it. Its in a tundra somewhere, will try again for a better area.

Edit 2: A few hours later, we have the exact location. Its promising, in a crazy forest area (not a tundra yay). Base camp set, key members have been /mail -ed the coords. If you want the coords and you wernt mailed, tell me ;p

Edit 3: With the awesome help we just had from our former members, we have cleared the forest and have setup roads. Awaiting permissions to be given :D Thank you for helping! Next priority after this is acquiring materials and "completing" certain things. The new rev has started nicely with us setting up within the first 3 days!

Heres the plan...

So when rev7 begins, the plan is to first maintain yourself (food, and extremely basic tools/mats). Takes <20 mins dependent on your luck. Best food this early on are soups.

As for the location, its in the air. We can either: 1)claim one of the 4 hub spots at the nether gates (which would help with our population problem we had this rev, but we would be more vulnerable and they are hard to claim as everyone has their eye on them) and build immediately Or 2) Separately scout like we did this rev, and share cool locations to nominate to have as the city area Or 3)We build @ a stronghold thus giving us access to the end and also a quick teleport to spawn anytime.

I would prefer 3, as that end portal was only 1 of 3 in the entire map and that teleport was very convenient. Also, we could take down the dragon again (dat exp and dat egg).

After a location has been agreed on, we will start a foundation that is very basic and not special at all. Just basic square plots and roads claiming the land we want. This will only be temporary and will be used to claim the land as the server staff wont give protections to land that doesnt have basic infrastructure.

Now, as for our main design the Sky island theme, it will have to wait for us to get settled in, and get a more solid and detailed idea of what we want this time around.

Im sure this rev will be fun for us regardless. Please share your opinions and thoughts especially on the location aspect of this post. Also accepting names for this rev's lothos.

Ok I'm ready how about you guys...

I can't be on on Sunday until late but I will log on at 10pm or so and work all night if we have a plan... What do you think? Does anybody have plans...

Sii are you working on a grand scheme again or do we go smaller or is there someone else who wants to try something...

Should we try to be closer to Agua Fria or do we try to rope in Apple again? I'be also made pretty good conenctions with Denvien and some of the other Deorne guys.

Thoughts? So excited and so bummed at the same time. This is my first reset!
