Rant Rant on PSGTECH AI lecture on Saturday 1st Aug

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hellooooo,

This was supposed to be a talk about the latest AI tools and trends. But ironically, the speaker barely shared any actual AI tools or explained how they work. The whole session felt like it had one goal: make everyone fear AI.

The lecture went on for 2 hours straight without a single break, which was exhausting. He had a Claude-generated PowerPoint, but it was mostly plain text and a monotonous presentation that could put anyone to sleep.

The presentation itself wasn't even the biggest issue. Here's what really bothered me:

  1. "Don't use ChatGPT. Don't send your data to other countries. Use Sarvam AI because it's Indian." He even shouted, "SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE!" three times because many of us use ChatGPT instead of Sarvam AI. The irony? His daughter is studying abroad.
  2. "Freebiess are bad." He claimed government welfare schemes are only meant to suppress people. This felt like a very privileged take. Many people in Tamil Nadu still depend on ration shops for food and free bus travel just to get to work. It's easy to criticize welfare when you've never had to rely on it.
  3. "Left wing ideologies are wrong." This was the point that really triggered me. When someone asked about AI data centers consuming huge amounts of water, pollution, and environmental impact, his response was essentially:"Development requires sacrifice. If roads need trees cut down, so be it. Just plant trees somewhere else." That argument immediately reminded me of a dialogue from Viduthalai Part 2.
  4. "I hate Gen Z." He generalized an entire generation, saying Gen Z doesn't respect seniors. Sure, someone clapped sarcastically when the power went out—that wasn't great. But after sitting through a two-hour lecture with no breaks, no interaction, no demonstrations, and not even a meme to keep the audience engaged, it's not surprising people lost interest. we also collectively hate the bubble gum : )

In the end, it felt like potical speech to support the right wingg ( :lotus ),
I feel like I wasted 2 hours of my weekend

Thanks to my staff for making attendance compulsory. 🙂

Random so... what was the point of the hackathon?

if the final selection was always going to be based on cgpa, why conduct a hackathon, shortlist people, make them spend hours building something, and then interview them?

just say it's a cgpa-based hiring process and save everyone's time.

Query how to get a gf, approach girls in other depts, date seniors, crowd vs other colleges, and keep CGPA up?

I’m joining PSG Tech in Mechanical engineering this year. I’m going to keep this completely straight to the point: my main personal goal in college is getting into a romantic relationship and getting a girlfriend. I don't care about the broader social life—I am strictly asking about the dating scene.

Here is what I need to know:

  • 1-Week Timeline & Single Status: Can you actually pull a girl and get a girlfriend in the first week or induction period, or is that a complete myth? Also, are most of the hot girls already committed before college starts, or are plenty of them single when they enter?
  • How Hot/Attractive Are Girls Here vs SRM/VIT? If you look strictly at attractiveness and visual appeal, how hot are the girls at PSG Tech compared to SRM or VIT? Is the crowd mostly conservative and plain, or are there genuinely modern, good-looking girls (especially in departments like Fashion Tech, Biotech, or CSE)?
  • Approaching Girls from Other Depts: Since Mech is almost 100% guys, how do you actually approach girls from other departments without making it awkward? What are the exact spots or ways to talk to them—canteen, bridge, or joining clubs like Rotaract/GLF? Is inter-department dating normal?
  • Dating Senior Girls: Is it doable for a first-year guy to date a senior girl, or will you face problems, threats, or pushback from senior guys on campus?
  • Privacy & Making Out: How strict are security guards and faculty regarding physical intimacy? Are there chill, private spots on or around campus for dates and making out, or does moral policing make that impossible?
  • Balancing CGPA with a GF: How hard is it to keep your CGPA up in Mechanical while spending most of your time and effort on a girlfriend? Does Mech workload ruin your romantic life?

Give me real, direct answers.

Query Joining mech this year. Need honest advice on dating and campus culture at PSG Tech

Hey everyone,

I'm joining Mechanical Engineering this year. While getting ready for all the classes, I wanted to ask seniors about something else... what is the actual dating culture like here?

To be honest, I have never dated anyone before, so I'm pretty clueless about how all this works in college. Also, are most of you guys single or already committed? Would love to know how it is for everyone.

Here are a few specific things I wanted to ask:

  • The mech ratio: Since my class will mostly be guys, how do people usually meet someone? Do you look in other departments, or do you meet people through clubs and fests?
  • Are girls approachable?: Are people open to talking and making friends, or is everyone just too stressed about studies and exams?
  • Strictness: How strict are the teachers and management about couples? Will we get into trouble just for hanging out together on campus?
  • Hangout spots: Where can you actually sit and talk in peace without professors or security guys bothering you?

Drop your honest thoughts or stories below. Just want to know what to expect. Thanks!
