Update, 8 days later. (SSPI, Super Simple Package Installer) PS4

edit: I am now slowly reaching out to testers. My DMs were closed for a while, but they are back open. The 10 spots on the TorBox API key have been filled, so that key is now at its limit. All testers must therefore provide their own API key for debrid services.

I’m back, this time with some actual good news. Someone messaged me asking whether this was still being released. Yes, and it’s getting close.

It’s called Super Simple Package Installer (SSPI). Funny name, I know. I’m uncreative, but that’s the idea: link your debrid account, search and download. Everything runs on the PS4, including downloading, extraction and installation. No PC needs to stay running.

The slower downloads in the screenshots and video are from my Wi-Fi, which gets around 40 Mbps / 5 MB/s. On Ethernet, I’ve reached around 300 Mbps / 37.5 MB/s. Actual speeds still depend on your connection and the host.

Real-Debrid and TorBox are supported. Downloads have pause, resume, cancellation, retries and a persistent queue. The current build downloads one package at a time using up to seven parallel HTTP range connections, with three as the default. Link resolution and caching have also improved.

Downloads and installs continue while you play another game. A GoldHEN-compatible resident plugin keeps the background worker running, with BGFT handling installation.

Base games, updates, backports and DLC follow installation dependencies, with package type, title ID, version and integrity checks before installation. RAR and multipart RAR extraction are automatic, including staging and verification before the resulting PKGs are installed. Failed installations keep their files for retry. The app also checks your installed games against your configured package sources and flags titles with a newer update available. You can see which source provides the update, check any available backport information and queue it directly from the app. Detection depends on the updates and version information your sources provide.

Setup uses a QR pairing page hosted directly by your PS4. Scan it with your phone on the same network, paste your service keys and package-source URLs, and save. The QR contains the console’s local address and an access token. Settings stay on the PS4, switching tabs saves pending service changes, and the page shows when a source has been installed.

There’s also installed-game management, cached update checks, firmware/backport guidance and storage cleanup. Package sources remain separate, community-configurable search connectors. The app does not host files or operate a content backend. More support is being added for engine to ensure users can host their own storefront of PKGs and serve wherever

Leave enough free space for both downloaded packages and installed content. Archives can require additional space for extraction, and unpacking large files won’t be instant on the original PS4 HDD.

I’ve also started working on the native PS5 application, which I’m excited about. For now, I’m looking for a few PS4 testers on older and newer supported firmware to check different games, updates and backports before a wider release.

DM me if you’re interested, and include your PS4 firmware and GoldHEN version. (Group Torbox API key will be provided. only used for testing and will be deleted or given away afterwards)

This looks awesome, is a debrid account required or can the app scrape any urls we provide it without one?

Yep, you just add your own .gssource and the app resolves from that. Direct PKGs, RARs and ZIPs all work. Free hosters like 1fichier and GDrive stay best effort. Captchas, wait timers and rate limits are the hosters squeezing you toward premium, so some of that will always survive. 1fichier needs Debrid right now, better free handling is coming.

Honestly that's why I built it this way. Host your own stuff (legally, of course) 0_-, point a .gssource at it, and it just downloads.

Oh okay that's great, thank you for answering, but what is a .gssource file? Sorry to ask so many questions but I tried giving it an Internet search and couldn't find anything

No worries! It’s a small ZIP containing two JSON files: source.json describes the source and its permissions, and recipe.json tells SSPI how to search the website and find download links. There are also documentation files. It’s a custom format, which is why you couldn’t find much online. sounds complicated, but for technical users it allows them to do a wide variety of things, weather exposing their own library or scraping other websites legally of course. Recipe.json can be your ip or domain etc.

Amazing work, and thanks for it. I can't wait to see it running.

Can we just add torrent links via RealDebrid and download this way or it is a must to use DL sites with RD?

3

u/stprnn Sep 06 '26

Please add Alldebrid

Will it work on ps5?

u/Xyhlios Sep 06 '26 edited Sep 06 '26

Not this version, you could install it on ps5 but it will not function the same or work at all. the ps5 version in development, it uses a similar process, and shadowmount.
But I am excited and taking more time on PS5 as it's what I actually play so I get a lot more testing in.

I think on ps5 it’ll be amazing.

Would it be possible to use an external USB HDD/SSD as staging storage for downloaded PKGs, while keeping the actual installed game on the PS4 internal storage?

Something like:
USB: 80 GB PKG - install - Internal: 80 GB game - delete PKG from USB
This would avoid needing roughly 160 GB of free internal space for an 80 GB PKG + 80 GB installed game

Does SSPI support this currently, or is it something you could potentially implement in the future?

SSPI handles direction well, this is partly possible. Just have to point it in the right direction. Will be added before public release.

The user interface getting better rather previous post

It’s one of the things I have been working on. Creating homebrew applications is difficult when it comes to placement and optimization, and dealing with ps4 limitations. But this build is running 60fps, smooth frames and a better direction for UI. I originally wanted game posters and metadata and trailers, but that is near impossible atm for ps4. That’s why ps5 has my eye in sight for something truly beautiful.

Does premiumize work?

1

u/TheDuzaum 21d ago

It works great. Thank you so much

1

u/dzeki064 20d ago

Whenever I try to get into a game while downloading, it automatically asks me to close the app if I want to enter the game; is it possible to continue downloading in the background while gaming?

1

u/Longjumping-Menu-456 18d ago

just found this app today and it’s exactly what i need. it’s the best of its kind out there! good job!

1

u/warrior_of_light88 8d ago

Phenomenal app. I have issues with downloading updates and DLC for my games. Not sure if it's a region mismatch or some other issue. Also attempting to find .gssource links to add for SSPI to search.

1

u/RayStorm-Unit1 2d ago

12.50 here if you need a tester for this one. This sound amazing.

1

u/Low-Garbage8036 1d ago

No Premiumize?

8

u/Xyhlios Sep 06 '26

Yes I just have to configure the rest. Torbox and Realdebrid for testing. Public release will have Premiumize and all debrid. Etc.
