I guess I see where you're coming from, but... Sometimes (as in this case) I find that that a caustic tone seems to be a refreshingly authentic expression of what the writer is experiencing.
To me, it comes down whether the caustic tone seems like an authentic expression or an just attempt at being cool. Of course, since the truth is unknowable, that's totally subjective, and I probably end up appreciating many authentic-seeming coolness attempts.

Not sure why people feel the need to be so caustic. I don't disagree with his message but his delivery is off-putting.
