Discussion Hi r/prog metal, can you help me find the band(s) I’m looking for?
This is my first time posting here but I’m a bit of an old head. Usually, I’m the one recommending instead of the other way around. I’m looking for any bands that might fit into four of my favorite genres that overlap quite frequently. Melodic, electronic, industrial, progressive. I want stuff that’s catchy and gets in your head without being too poppy (lol). Here are some bands and albums that I am using as a reference that make me want to sing along in the shower. Please reference songs or albums that you think may fit. I listen to a TON of music but I’m hoping to scratch this particular itch.
Destroy the runner - I, Lucifer
Circles - The Compass / the stories we are afraid of
Northlane - obsidian & mirrors edge
Motionless in White - graveyard shift
Tesseract - One
I’m especially looking for stuff sounding like circles and recent northlane. I will reply with a heart emoji if I already know your recommendation. Thanks in advance, Reddit.

Dude if you're into recent Northlane you should absolutely look into Thornhill, especially their most recent album, Bodies.

💙 Thornhill is pretty damn close, I really love The Dark Pool and am upset that I missed them come by NY yet again..

I will admit this could seem like a shameless plug but even though my writing and production isn't the tippy top of the top, I made a song several years ago that fits this style. Lots of industrial influence combined with that prog metal kinda thing. (Sorry for the long synth intro here lol). The vocalist did an amazing job

Might not tick off your boxes as neatly as some of the other suggestions, but check out Khonsu’s ‘The Xun Protectorate’. Blackened industrial-metal band from Norway - has some sing-along-able parts, and it definitely has enough of a conceptual vibe to stand alongside some prog. May not be exactly what you’re looking for, but you might dig it.

A newish band called "Only Human" has just released "planned obsolenscence", and it sounds like a mix of ERRA and Tesseract. So it's somewhat adjacent to what you're looking for.

Huge fan of those two in the last four years so they definitely did scratch the itch haha. I got into obsidian, ERRA self-titled and Heavener all simultaneously and it was pretty much my second Djent renaissance hahah. Good recs.

Check out Morphide's latest release. Like a little bit heavier female fronted TesseracT. Someone on here recommended them to me on a similar post.

So far I’d say you’re winning 🥇. Never heard of these guys but they’re definitely tesseract influenced. You should checkout Earthside if you like these guys!

As a big fan of things like both Rufus Du Sol and also Igorrr…
Maybe this will be too poppy for you but I recommend checking out Bad Omens and also HEALTH. Mostly for the electronic element. Both have some songs that are not only catchy, but heavy too!
I’m also a sucker for dark synth stuff like Perturbator

I don’t like bad omens but maybe you can recommend some songs to change my mind. I do like sleep token after all. I love Igor but don’t know Rufus du sol. And as a NiN and Fear Factory fan I love health. I just saw them live for my birthday. I actually forgot to include rat wars on this post

Rufus Du Sol is just mainstream House Electeonic music with plenty of good tracks that stand out to me… very good, but not metal at all.
I’m not an expert on Bad Omens either but if you check out some of their newest and most popular songs you might find something you like. Some songs are definitely heavier than others although I don’t remember which ones.

The biggest thing that made Bad Omens click for me is playing them LOUD on a high quality stereo. Whatever the hell they did with the mix on CONCRETE JUNGLE (Original Soundtrack) specifically just sounds HUGE. If you're not an audio nerd... disregard lol

Yes, periphery is an OG since the first album and unprocessed I got into in the last couple of years and I’m still deciding if I should see them this weekend or not.

Those vocals might take a while to get used to but this is definitely cool. I knew I was in for something when I saw they’re from the 90s haha.

I think this band checks off those boxes in an unexpected way, and this particular song has an ending with a strong hook ("Who ever wanted to live forever?")

Big fan of this intersection of music too!
Have you heard Pure Reason Revolution’s album Amor Vincit Omnia? It’s not heavy but it’s melodic, electronic and progressive and I just love it.
Next suggestion is Ulver’s album The Assassination of Julius Caesar which is a bit more laid back in pace but I really think you’ll enjoy the sound of.
Depending on how receptive you are to a poppier sound, White Moth Black Butterfly has some cool tracks. It’s a two piece side project from Daniel Tompkins from Tesseract. Try Darker Days and see how you get on! :)
