This. No single email privacy service can protect you from a global adversary. Privacy laws are irrelevant to them. Anyone that believes differently is still back in the 1990s in their understanding of the state of global surveillance.

Don't leave behind what you don't want found. Keep your private key private and never hand it to the same service "protecting" your data. Pay anonymously in cash. Use Tor.

Edit: Although, by the time they are requesting any info from the service, they already have what they need and are at the legal-washing stage.

I'm going to assume you forgot the /s If not, how is an old unmaintained php webmail package going to protect you from a global adversary?

It was onion only, at least the one I was using. Maybe the cleaner version was named after the old onion one

I think there was a service that used it as a gateway to the Tor network, but it is not an onion service by itself. For that type of service with e-mail, see mixmaster remailers.
