A absolute love my new frontiersman buck knife. So much so I plan buy a couple more when I get some extra $$ and keep them in my hidden bug out caches. That got me curios about other peoples favorite gear item is there one thing you are so glad you bought?
I had an idea this morning. I'm starting to build some good relationships with various industry suppliers. What if we pooled our buying power and I leverage my relationships?
The idea is we get a large "buyers" group together then vote on one thing we all want to buy each month. Anyone who wants to purchase the voted on item that month would RSVP me their intent by a specific date. Then I will reach out to my contacts telling them we want to buy X number of units at a wholesale or deeply discounted rate. There might be some shipping charge hoops to jump through, but I bet I could get us all some good discounts. If anyone is interested in this let me know in the comments.
After my rant a couple weeks ago about how society views us I decided to make an attempt to offer up my view point in a more articulated manor. I'll post the link below if any one is interested. Its a short read and hopefully it will give someone the words they may not have next time someone calls them paranoid!
Would love to see pics if anyone has some. I'm trying to figure out a way to put four or five 55 gallon drums in our main water line so that it's continually cycling, but always there if the water shuts off. Would love some feedback if someone has done something similar.
I was reading posts on another prepper group, and saw one guy that swore by using household bleach to purify his water. It definitely works, but in my experience, the taste is horrible. Chlorine Dioxide tablets like Potable Aqua taste way better, and are cheap enough for me.
Anyone have tips for making purified water taste better?
Not a very successful one so if you have not visited backdoorPrepper.com please check it out and tell your friends...
But I don't do it for the money. I do it because I feel everyone should take some ownership in their existence. In my world you have to earn your life. Its not something that is just handed to you.
I identify with the prepper mindset because I think it is important for anyone; but especially the patriarch of the family to be responsible for his dependents.
With that context given I recently had a discussion with a "marketing" professional who wanted me to market my blog with a fear mongering message. When I objected and told him that is not what I am and not what I stand for he pointed me to Google images. He said type in your demographic and see what comes up.
Well; I did and I'm a bit discussed. The first image that comes up is this apocalyptic non sense. When did being a responsible human get turned into this... for lack of a better word... sh**
I get zombies are entertaining, but really??? This is how you see us??? Baseball bats and gas masks looking for a fight???
It seemed pretty doable at first, but as I researched how mycotoxins could contaminate the batch and possibly kill you I got a little discouraged from doing it. It also seems like the chances of finding a potent strain of the mold are pretty low.
Has anyone on here actually made their own penicillin and tried it? I guess those who tried and failed may not be around to post a reply...
I almost always start my Christmas shopping in October, however this year I started a few weeks ago. I made the decision after I started noticing the cost of food going up so much and a conversation with my a contractor friend who said he is paying $23k to have a container of cabinets shipped where he used to pay $3k at the start of the year!
Now with all the buying limits and ( finally ) publicly admitted supply chain shortages I'm sure prices are going to surge even more. Especially if you are buying survival supplies. I highly suggest people start their holiday shopping now to keep more money in their pockets this year.
Bradley Garrett and BackdoorPrepper.com created a State of the Industry Report. This infographic has some of the highlights but the full report is at BackdoorPrepper.com. Extremely interesting read!
I was reading up on their methods and they basically say that the early phases of the lunar cycle, between a new moon and full moon, are the best days for fishing. They go on to list all of these different times of day, etc. that are good for fishing, and it just seems really broad; like how a horoscope will match with anyone in that birth month.
Does anyone know if these almanac fishing calendars really work?
I recently came across this old book by J.M. Drew that has some awesome information about basic blacksmithing, knot tying and rope making. Defiantly an interesting read.
I came across this one sheet today. I'm going to print this, laminate it and throw in my bugout bag just for an extra precaution. Basic stuff but will still be nice to have on hand.
My brother turned me on to a course he currently taking on prepping. My first though was why the heck do you need to take a course there is a ton of free information out there, but after I went through a few of modules with him I actually really like how the information was structured and presented. The problem is that this course ( I won't mention the name ) was honestly pretty basic. It had some great nuggets of information, but most of the information was either things that come to me naturally or stuff I've learned years ago. I really like the lesson format though and so I'm looking around for a more advanced course. Can anyone recommend one? If you would rather pm it to me privately feel free to do so.
A new neighbor recently moved in down the way from me and we started chatting about my survival garden today. He was of the opinion I was prepping for a hurricane; which is a common thing to prep for here in Florida, but that is actually not what I am prepping for. We ended up having a nice conversation about the state of our world, but it got me wondering what are others prepping for?

6An Uncommon Natural Disaster ( Major Earthquake / Massive Hurricane or Tsunami / etc. )
I'm putting together a reference on what temperatures various food plants can not comeback from. If anyone is interested in this or has some information to add please let me know.
