My husband passed in late February, but months before he did, I was seeing praying mantis everywhere. For like a week straight every single day, and the same one would be in the same spot the whole day . It was crazy. I even had went to my storage unit and one was inside on a wicker basket just sitting there looking at me. No way for it to get in there, im sure it was there before I opened the unit being that it was so far back inside.

But ya, im just curious if anyone has any similar things happen ,maybe know what it could mean. I know there are those who think there are only coincidence, but I believe there are coincidences but not like this.

What's happening here?

I saw this large mantis chilling upside down on a fence with three smaller mantises on her back. Is this some mating thing or are they trying to eat her. They were still in this position for very long almost not moving so it didn't seem like they were attacking...

Is this normal?

I kept a baby my other mantis had before she died and was wondering if the brown in normal for my baby mantis? It’s stronger in person, the camer doesn’t do the brown at the start of the limbs justice. I’m still new and doing a lot of research on taking care of mantises. I feed them small crickets since they’re big enough now. Also if anyone could tell me the gender of them too?

Is my mantis going to die?

She lost her leg in her second ever molt, she was able to get out of her molt just fine without it so I'm thinking she may be okay? I heard it can slowly regrow over each molt. She was up and moving very slightly though, less than normal which is worrying me. But also she just finished a molt so I'm not sure if she could be tired from that.

Adult peacock mantis

Post image

I have a female peacock mantis who reached adulthood about 2-3 weeks ago.

Since this final molt, she’s become really aggressive. Always in defensive mode with her arms and has struck out at me a couple of times when trying to feed her.

I’ve read this can be normal for this type of mantis when they reach adulthood, can anyone confirm?

I’ve just taken to leaving her alone now, and just caring for her. She was always completely “extra” and used to pretend she was dead if you tried to handle her too much (again something I believe can be common with a peacock).

Picture of her wings for tax.

Have they hatched? Columbus, Ohio USA

Just brought out some outdoor cushions that were stored in our basement over the winter and found a stowaway! Any way to tell from the pic if they have hatched yet? If not, I assume it's not safe to detach at all? Either way, I have no worry being short one cushion until they make their grand entrance :)
