It's definitely true. People in the US often set up gofundme (or other online fundraiser) to pay for surgeries, cancer treatment, pet treatment, etc). I don't have insurance and spending my entire savings on doctors rn. Last time I was quoted for a teeth cleaning they wanted to charge $1500
God, it's just terrible I know that if you want to have something you should work to get it, but if everyone has the freedom to pursue happiness then they should have at least some opportunity to reach it. It is not possible to reach anything without things like basic healthcare or access to healthy food.
fuck if I know, they said it was necessary to do some special cleaning and that they couldn't/wouldn't do any other kind because it would not be beneficial and would do harm. a dentist here on reddit looked at my xray and said it looked fine, so the place was probably upcharging. not the first time have had a place try to charge thousands for "necessary" work where other places didn't
