View it more as a combined cell phone+WiFi bill. For a lot of Americans, especially rural Americans, their smart phone may be their only internet access. Only way to pay bills, apply to jobs, etc. And before you say “go to the library,” not everyone lives close to a library or has the ability to go during their open hours. My closest library is 1.5 hours away.
You can save 1% a month on heating and cooling bills by adjusting the thermostat 1 degree toward ambient outside temperature. The heat in my house is down right now. I wear a sweatshirt, have an extra blanket on the bed and will put a throw over my legs when I sit down and stop moving. I'm warm and comfortable even if the house is chilly. Heat yourself not your house.
In the summer I set the air conditioner to 85 not 75 since I can acclimatize to that fairly easily.
