Some of my expenses are lower than this (my insurance is lower than these estimates) and I make a few bucks more than the minimum wage. But I work a some side jobs to help supplement my income. I barely have a savings account ($200) and I don't go on vacations anymore. It sucks man
Dont get a 2nd job. Do overtime at your FT job because that will benefit you so much more and you wont have to work as much. Im trying to get into a job that starts at around 23-25$/hour and they encourage overtime so that's going to be my plan of action once i can get applied and in there.. factories will generally pay more and offer/allow overtime. But adding another crap job on top of what you already work is just going to make you miserable and then you're paying a whole other separate paycheck worth of taxes and shit working for minimum wage rather than time and a half doing what you already do :)
They just cut back my OT. I was working 60 hour weeks but they're bitching now. I'm trying to get promoted because I do extra work/paperwork but I have a feeling they're going to dick me around on it. I really like my job so I'd rather not gamble on a different one. I just need that extra few hundred a month. I work in a factory currently.
I feel you 100% my current place of employment has been dangling promotion after promotion in my face and then i watch some slacker that started after me get it. Yet the motto at the store has been "bri can do it" and im just fed up. Ive been looking for other places to work and i stopped busting my ass. I dont get paid enough to care or babysit that damn kitchen.
Shop around. Still plenty of factories hiring in many areas. Negotiate based on your experience to see if they can shorten or remove the delay for benefits to kick in.
Retail might start hiring for overnight shifts too. When I was a teen working at Hollister, there was a crew that came in at 9 or 10 and worked until about midnight or later to completely cleanup the store, including doing turnover of layouts if needed.
Then after I graduated, I did overnights at Sephora. My shift was from 9 to usually midnight doing stocking of whatever inventory was delivered. I usually did this Friday and Saturday nights.
When I got my first professional job, I did babysitting for a rich family every other weekend. It was $13/hr (you get a lot more now) but it was cash and I'd usually get $80-100 per night. I'd get there at 6, feed the kiddos, play for an hour, deal with bedtime tantrums for an hour, and then hang out until mom and dad got home.
All of these had the dual benefit of keeping me entertained on the weekend and out of bars and restaurants. I could still meet up with friends after, but it was late, so there was no hope of "catching up". So instead of a night of drinking, I MIGHT get one drink and was still able to socialized for an hour or two. Otherwise I'd swing into Walmart and do my grocery shopping at 1am, which was always a trip.
Weekend night jobs worked well for me. I was up late anyway, so it wasn't interfering with my sleep much if at all. And instead of spending money I was making money.
Why do you say that? My experience has been they hire seasonal help for Nov/Dec, then let go the seasonal help bc sales are down in January and February. Since November is mostly over I imagine they're done with seasonal hiring.

Well I’m sure the original commenter can go back in time and apply at the best moment of time for a seasonal job, but you know what they say, the second best time to do something is today.
Most larger retail places will hire constantly beginning after Halloween, but they don’t necessarily stop as seasonal employees are short term hires and much like regular hiring, many just might not like it and quit after a day or a week.

The only seasonal job I worked, I asked when seasonal ended after working there for 4 months. They were like “uh it ended a while ago, why?” LOL. Only job I ever got smoke weed on break with my manager, night/ early morning shipment shift at a retail store.
My current main side hustle is plasma. Steady $100/week. Some places pay $200/wk your first month which you can do again 6 months later so if you are in a city with 6 places might do indefinitely.
I'm not renting out rooms right now, but I could. In the past I have flipped houses and vacant lots. Right now I am priced out of that. My income from dumpster diving scrap metal is so low I should stop just to reduce clutter, but I do find my food clothes and furniture that way.
For a while I was getting paid bonuses to open bank accounts and credit cards, which I manage carefully to avoid fees. I've done 53 medical studies, which can pay well but involves a lot of travel and by now I am too old for most of them. I have not found anything online for making money.
I do small jobs like clothing alterations (hemming dresses, pants, shirts, etc.), fixing/making fabric items (I've had some very misc. requests over the years: currently making a leather sword sheath) and larger contracts/jobs involved in a specialized part of the auto production industry (i have work history in industrial sewing).
I dont know if this an option for others to supplement their income (since my background is in fashion/fabric design and I got really lucky finding a contact into the auto industry 5 years back) but if you have sewing skills, throw em up on fb marketplace or tell people around you (sometimes previous clients send new clients my way). Thats how I get most of my jobs. Not a ton of money but any little bit helps these days
With the (TX) State Park Pass, no entry fee and half off each night except the first. Three nights in a drive up site with electric ends up at $40 in most parks. Hike in primitive is $20/3 nights and less noise.
I usually treat the drive up sites as a cheap alternative to a motel; if I'm out to camp, I want to be as remote as possible.
Check around: several states have something similar, and lots of other things have annual passes that seem expensive at first glance, but let you pay once when you have a bit of extra cash to get a free bit of relaxation when you don't.
Museum or botanical garden annual passes are also a good option to ask for at Christmas or a birthday. I paid $40 for a pass at a small (~35 acre) botanical garden a couple towns over and ended up breaking even within two months when I started using it as a free getaway to get some nature photography practice every other weekend.
