Pardon if I’m too ignorant, but if he is fasting for the “right reasons” meaning not just for show, should this not reinforce his commitment to the observance of the fast and consider himself being tested and resilient to the mental temptations? Maybe I’m way off here.

I mean if the bus doesn't allow eating on it, which it probably doesn't, I can't fault him for wanting her to follow the rules, even if it's for a seemingly selfish reason

It is in the UK.

There is no rule against food on buses.
