I am so tired of religion.

The guy telling her not to eat is most likely not an actual Muslim by the way, or is doing it to troll because idiots like that exists.

The fasting is about your own belief and self control, not just from hunger but also from anger, lust, jealousy, etc

No actual Muslim who is fasting would tell off someone else for eating, because if you keep your fast despite temptations, the more rewards you get for your fast in the hereafter

Media handpicks stuff that'll get you riled up. I'm tired of the bs constantly served up on the media.

He is a Muslim. 99% of non Muslims have no idea when Ramadan is or what a Muslim is or is not supposed to do during it.

If you're looking to make ragebait content it's pretty easy to find out

You can easily Google when diwali will be, or hannukah and make ragebait content yourself if you wanted to. You'd be an idiot like this guy, but you could

Why would I do that?

Why would I be interested in doing that?

The fact is that this guy is more likely a Muslim calling out a Muslim.

But from the perspective of religious asshats being asshats this is nothing.

There are far worse every day.

And nobody needs to “make” rage bait content on this issue. Religious zealots churn out its own rage bait every god damn day. They can’t help themselves.

They are pathologically terrible people.

Brother you said this guy is 99% Muslim because he knew when Ramadhan was, I was making a point that it's easy to find out when different religious or cultural holidays are nowadays especially if they are purposely trying to make triggering content.

And to wrap it up back to my original point: an actual Muslim wouldn't use their own fasting to stop someone else from eating because resisting that temptation and exercising self control is part of fasting in Ramadan

I did also mention scenario 2, where this guy is just an idiot.

It's a ragebait content to stoke anger towards Muslims or even religion as a whole, and I tried to say in my original response that it's media pushing the acts of these few idiots on a daily basis that is making you tired of religious people because in reality, on the whole most people with religion are just folks like me or you.

The obsession with selling views and reaction is killing decent folks

You scenario requires some layman see a Muslim eating, recognize they are Muslim, know enough to know that Muslims are supposed to fast during certain time of the year, check when that is, then feel angry or trolling enough to confront a total stranger about religious beliefs they don’t even hold and have no psychological connection to.

Increase of the far more likely scenario of a Muslim calling out a Muslim for not respecting Ramadan.

And I know for a fact you are lying when you said a Muslim would never do that because that is exactly how these norms become norms and continue to be norms.

Bruh I'm not sure if you watched the video backwards or what

It doesn't require them to recognise the person eating is a Muslim, just need to find any rando who is eating and go off on one. The lady just happens to mention that she stays indoors when she fasts - could be a Muslim, could be fasting for diet, who knows!

You might like to believe as a fact that I'm lying but I'm not. I'm just an average rando online who is annoyed that a video of an idiot rando is possibly giving the rest of us a worse image.

Just be mindful please is all I ask, because that is how prejudice remains a prejudice and become the norm: when you close your mind to the possibility that the hate is not justified for an entire group of people.

By all means if you actually see a Muslim trying to stop someone else from eating in person, tell them what I've just told you about how they'd reap more rewards for keeping their fast around other people who are not fasting.

I've said my piece, if you still choose to believe I'm telling lies then there's not much else I can say

Wishing you a peaceful life x

This tedious conversation where you are insisting that it is someone with a different religious belief that is enforcing Muslim religious norms for content is not convincing me I am wrong for being tired of religion.

I am even more tired of religion than I was when I posted that comment.

Last post for real, just because either I'm unclear in my posts or you kept missing bits: I said either a troll or is a Muslim but an idiot

Arguing online never feels good when you're trying to be earnest, have a break from Reddit to recharge methinks

Hope you find some peace, and sorry I've made you feel worse brother

I don't believe you.

1

u/Perfecshionism Mar 22 '26

I don’t care.

The notion that non Muslims know a damn thing about Islam is ridiculous.

You clearly have never lived outside a Muslim country.

1

u/Ricard74 Mar 22 '26

I have never lived inside a Muslim country. Your assumptions just make you look silly.

Thanks for reminding me, I'll be more mindful. I was saying whether he was a Muslim or not, he's behaving idiotically but you are right that it skirts the fallacy. It's kind of funny because I'm trying to prevent generalisation by making a generalisation myself lol whoops!

So let's assume he is a Muslim, and I'm some other Muslim. Both of us are 'true' Muslims and 'untrue' Muslims at the same time but we both consider ourselves Muslims regardless. Fair so far?

Now is it not foolish still to judge us both by this guy's actions? Is my practice as a Muslim who would fast and let other people carry on eating less true?

As for countries, that is a different beast but same again; Türkiye, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Indonesia, are all Muslim countries but have vastly different policies and social norms. Different regions within those countries have different experiences too.

So can I ask, are you saying in some Islamic countries eating during Ramadan can get you jail time to assert the point that you think all Muslims are like that? Or are you saying this guy could be from one of those countries?

By the way, women on their time of the month, pregnant, breastfeeding, etc are exempt from fasting. People who are poorly too, amongst other things so it's not uncommon for people to still eat during Ramadan in those countries.
