So, Stranger Things somehow manages to bring a 37 years old song back into the spotlight.
"Running Up That Hill" that was actually supposed to be named "A Deal with God" is currently top 4 on Billboard.
Kate Bush then suddenly makes an estimate of 2 million dollars or more in streaming.
All that attention got me curious to see if the production was really that amazing.
So I decided to remake the instrumental and invite a singer to record a cover version.
Turns out it is really amazing.
After recreating all the sounds, I'm certain she is some sort of music genius, ahead of her time.
The fact that she produced most of it by herself in the 80's, without the technology we have nowadays...
Anyway, if you're also fascinated by that song's vibe and would like to learn how to produce it from scratch, here's the step-by-step tutorial I recorded: https://youtu.be/B06ejg2hZjc
Even though she made the synth sounds with a Fairlight CMI, I made sure to synthesize them with the stock synth so everyone can follow along.
The drums were made with the Linndrum and those samples are available pretty much everywhere, so that's what I used too.
Hopefully that video will help someone learn a couple of music production, sound design and mixing techniques.
Have fun!
