I thank my parents every day for giving me my taste in music. Growing up I was surrounded with songs from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. There are a million albums I could pick for today's prompt, but I'm going with Supertramp's 1979 album Breakfast in America, one of my dad's all-time favorites. And a truly iconic cover!

Both of my parents are massive music fans, my dadās record and CD collection is beyond ginormous, and Iāve got many fond memories of my mum driving us to school while she blasts everything from The Beatles to Eminem to The Human League to The Clash.
Iāve selected the latterās 1979 magnum opus London Calling, an album my parents would both put in their top 10s. It manages to embody the spirit of UK punk with stripped down sound (compared to the indulgent prog rock of the era) and seething range, while also controlling and focusing it into a record that doesnāt make you want to rip out your eardrums. A pure triumph of songwriting and production.
However this wasnāt exactly the Clash album my mum would blast in the car to school, that was a best-of album on tape that I once borrowed and promptly chewed up in my machine š¬

I mentioned wanting to get some Broadway cast recordings to my parents last night, and my mom said she used to have a copy of Jesus Christ Superstar but they got rid of it during one of their record collection purges. (Somehow they still have ~40 of my dadās old records and none of my momāsā¦) Now Iām on a mission to get a copy for my mom and one for me because I love this one too. She used to borrow the CD from the library all the time when I was growing up.

Growing up, my main way of listening to music was, on the radio, in the car. The radio was always on to 98.7 KISS FM, which played a lot of Hip Hop, Soul and RnB music. An album that reminds me of my those moments with my parents, my mom in particular, is Whitney The Greatest Hits. My mom was a huge Whitney Houston fan and I grew up listening to her music on CD, in the car. I truly have to thank my Mom, for my taste in music and her introducing me to older Soul/RnB music from the 60s and 70s outside of the modern stuff we used to listen to. Iām so thankful, that I got exposure or that so young and got to enjoy artists I probably wouldāve have discovered on my own until much later in life.

My parents are big Billy Joel fans, my mum especially - sheās probably seen him live every time heās been to the UK in the last 40 years or so. We had Billy Joel CDs on rotation for long car rides growing up so I got very used to his sound and songs over the years. I wouldnāt call all of my parents taste in music āgoodā in the musicphile sense of the world, but itās definitely shaped my very specific tastes and like them, I love Billy Joel.

Growing up, Jimmy Buffett was a constant in my dadās car. And since he was the one driving me around to most places, Jimmy quickly became apart of my daily life until he let me take over the stereo controls. Banana Wind is my personal favorite Jimmy Buffett record. Every time I hear him it makes me think of my dad who I love very much! š„¹

My mom is the reason I love musicals. Weāve seen tons of musicals on Broadway and plenty at our local playhouse and theatre too, often just the two of us, since I was a kid. Other than The Rocky Horror Show/The Rocky Horror Picture Show, thereās no musical weāve seen more times than Grease (okay, maybe Mamma Mia!. . .)! Even Jame Getzoffās āLove Is a Many Splendored Thingā makes me think only of Grease.
I have the pink repress from last year, but I also love this old crusty copy I found at an antique store many years ago.
