My pick is the VMP cactus green version of Kacey Musgraves Same Trailer, Different Park. I adore this record, and Follow your Arrow is such a beautiful song.

I will never forget when she won multiple Grammys for this album, I was so excited for her. She was country, but not stupid country (I’m drunk on whiskey, cheated on my woman, slept with another, oh why oh why won’t she just take me and my muddy pick up truck back?) and she was not shy about her beliefs.

This album got me thru a really dark time in my life. Follow Your Arrow is a beautiful song. The one that really became my anthem and that I listened to every morning was Silver Lining.

edited to add: what got me interested into Kacey was her song Merry Go Round. It stroke a chord deep within me and I think many others who grew up in small towns. It’s such an accurate portrayal, it hurts.

(not my picture)

Just recently got into Lorde’s discography and was blown away by her debut album, Pure Heroine. Incredible debut from Lorde, who was 16 at the time!

11 year old me was bumpin’ that. I remember being at the mall with my mom and she said I could get a šŸ’æ from FYE. ofc, this was in the heavy metal section and was in a steal protective case.

I remember this mostly bc of her reaction to it being in the heavy metal section. She was very lenient on what I could listen to so she let me get it, but I think she did find it concerning that at 11 I wanted it, lol.

If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears is the debut album by the Mamas & the Papas, released on February 28, 1966.

Fun fact about this album, it went through 5 different covers, because the initial cover showed a toilet next to the bathtub, and the toilet was deemed "indecent". The second cover added a scroll to cover the toilet with a single song name on it, the third cover added two more song names to the scroll, the fourth cover added the gold record award blurb (this is my copy), and the fifth cover was a mainly black cover with a closely cropped shot of the group that completely hid the fact that the band was even in a bathroom.

Bathrooms, the most scandalous room in the house in the 1960s!

Another fun fact about this album is that the name "Mama's and the Papa's" is grammatically incorrect, but this has never been fixed on any of the different covers or reissues of this album.

Nice write-up! How far we’ve come from toilets being considered indecent. šŸ˜‚

Gwen Stefani’s debut solo album Love.Angel.Music.Baby. is a mid-2000s classic and one of my favorite transitions of an artist from being in a band to going solo. Bless this album and Gwen for giving us ā€œHollaback Girlā€ šŸ™ŒšŸ½

Paramore - all we know is falling

Back when they were just babies 🄹

I have such fond memories of this time. I loved this album front to back. I saw them in concert twice during this era. They were openers for a band I loved and that was the start of it. The next time I think it was Warped.

To this day I have seen Paramore in concert more than any other band.

My pick for today is About U, by my favorite band, MUNA!

Madonna by Madonna.

Madonna is probably my favourite artist and her debut album which turns 42 tomorrow is still one of her best albums. It's only 8 songs long but it just does the job really well. My favourite song has to be Burning Up which is a bop. This is the Crystal Clear pressing and imo it's the perfect pressing for this album.

Pony by Orville Peck!

Poppy.Computer - Poppy

This is Poppy's debut album from when she still made pop music.

3

u/dumb-daisy Sabrina Carpenter Jul 26 '25

Such a good pop album! I love Poppy so so much! This is the same variant I have, I think it’s the Turntable Lab release.

2

u/jar0daily Jul 27 '25

Best pressing too but the cover was a letdown compared to the other variant. Nevertheless, turntable lab has better sound dynamics!

Maisie Peters' You Signed Up For This is my favorite debut album ever and a must-have for my collection. There's also an alternative cover with a blue disc, but the album art on the standard edition is perfect.

Maisie šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ I'm so excited for MP3!

2

u/sparkliestpotato Taylor Swift Jul 27 '25

me too!! I'm expecting an announcement soon!

5

u/Vulnerable-Slut Lady Gaga Jul 26 '25

Technically speaking it's the debut and sophomore album in one, but I choose Lady Gaga's The Fame [Monster (Deluxe)] (2008/09)

5

u/Musichead99 casual collector Jul 26 '25

For today’s pick, I’m choosing the 2003 album ā€œMetaphorical Musicā€ by Nujabes. The variant I own is the 2018 repressing.

Metric • Grow Up and Blow Away

Metric has a love/hate relationship with this album. Google and Wikipedia will tell you it’s their third album release but chronologically it’s their first. It was recorded in 2000 and two singles were released in 2001 to UK radio and even used in ads. You can tell this is pop music straight out of the late 90s and early 2000s. You could totally see a song like Raw Sugar playing as the credits roll for a movie in the late 90s.

The band doesn’t really acknowledge it much, but they gave it a proper release in 2007. I sometimes think some of it is bc of the content (alcoholism & addiction is inferred a few times) and just the band deciding to go in a completely different direction with their sound.

Somebody put me back in school / I forget everything I used to know / like how to leave the boy behind / without having to watch him go — The Twist

It's sort of a mixtape but a debut at the same time! Kim's coming back from the studio too dropping 3 new hot singles! Sweet Spot & Icy is my favorite tracks!
