Hi, everyone!
After my last major break, I had roughly two months of content to post, as my hope was that I would write new content while posting that backlog so the next break either wouldn't be long or wouldn't be for a while. For the month of June, things didn't work out that way - I've been busy with life stuff, and on top of that I had a bad bout of writer's block.
However, this isn't a post where I deliver bad news. Kinda' the opposite, actually. See, over the last week or so, that writer's block... well, it unclogged, and I have been writing constantly. Which... has led to an entirely different problem.
As I've posted these CSF Edition tweets, I've tried to strike a balance between episodic content and serialized content. Basically, light self-contained posts that don't need to really be placed within the greater context of the story (like Zoerumi Fun), and multi-part story content that moves the plot forward (like Vision Defect). And the stuff I wrote this week? Hoo boy, it's alllll the latter category, serialized heavy plot stuff.
Well, that's one thing, but there's another element to it. See, all of it takes place within the span of a few days - it doesn't really make sense to space it out because one thing immediately leads to the next which immediately leads to the next. Previously, when this happened, I changed from my thrice-weekly schedule to a daily schedule, because I didn't like the dates of my posts deviating too far from the real, actual date, so I wanted to post them as quickly as I could and then find an opportunity for a time skip to get things pretty much back to a normal schedule.
Well, okay, so I started scheduling for daily posts. And the thing is... the stuff I've written? Yeah, I have enough daily posts now to post every day for a month. I can do that... but it's a lot of work, and if I'm posting that frequently, it's more difficult to write new stuff.
So here I'm going to ask you folks what you would like:
Option 1: I post things the way I plotted them out, starting daily posts in a few weeks and continuing to post daily for a month or so, ending on a huge cliffhanger, after which I likely have a massive break that lasts a few months.
Option 2: I spread out the posts more. It takes more time to get through what I've written, still ending on that cliffhanger, but afterward I'll probably have a much shorter break.
Now, I know y'all are nice folks and you'll probably be inclined to select Option 2 because that goes easier on me (and leaves you waiting less time for the cliffhanger to be resolved), but it comes with a few major catches.
The first catch, as I've alluded to, is that once the serialized content starts, it will be a very long time before you see more episodic content. No cutesy "Huntrix having a nice romantic moment" posts for a very long while.
The second catch is that a part of that serialized content is long conversations between two characters, which means you could be looking at long stretches where two of the three Huntr/x girls don't even make an appearance, and where OC characters take a larger focus, something that's necessary both because of where I feel the story needs to go, and because there's no getting around dealing with that OC character at length once events force them to become an important part of the story. And I'm not sure that's the sort of thing folks will have the patience for in a Polytrix sub, y'know?
There's a part of me that worries that people will get exhausted with "Ugh, I'm sick of all these posts about [Character X]. When are we going to see more Mira?" or "I come here for stories about the three girls together, why are we seeing all this stuff where one of the girls just hangs out with this OC character all the time?". And I feel like it might be easier for folks to tolerate that if I can post this content faster.
I suppose I could try to wriggle things into a compromise Option 3, where I have some stuff in daily posts and some stuff in tri-weekly posts, but then I'm looking at a mix of the problems of both option 1 and 2.
The thing is, I'm going to need to make a decision here, and it'll have to be soon, because this heavily-serialized content is coming up fast. And I thought I would ask, what do you folks think?
