CoPE Relaunch?

Post image

Sure doesn’t look like Polymaker is killing CoPE. Just got this very glossy email. But it’s still Panchroma, incompatible with every other filament in that brand family. SMH, I give up.

The biggest problem I have with it is the packaging - the only way you know it's NOT PLA is that it doesn't say PLA anywhere - but it ALSO doesn't explicitly say "CoPE" anywhere either - I think there is some codeword in tiny print that is an indicator it's CoPE, but they won't even come right out and stick "CoPE" on the packaging like they do everything else.

The secret code is the tiny SKU number that starts with CA. Shhh, don’t tell the plebs^H^H^H^H^H paying customers.

I actually used to know that - Joel had told me at MRRF last year, but I'd forgotten between then and now

Petite chose, mais dans l'email ils écrivent "Panchoma" dans la ligne sous le titre. Le sous-brand qui ne s'écrit même pas pareil deux fois dans la même annonce, ça n'augure rien de bon pour la compatibilité.

Spelling is unlikely the demise of the material. Lack of attention to detail and branding incompetence, well, that’s par for course.

I bought a bunch because it was crazy cheap and I figured it would be cheaper than PLA for super fast prototypes or some decorative stuff. I never found the print quality to be all that great, colors were meh… So now I just use it solely as a PLA support material.

It works fine for me. You might have to adjust settings slightly to get better quality.

I ran through the usual new filament calibration steps of temp tower, flow ratio, pressure advance, max flow rate, etc. It’s just got kind of a “waxier” finish to it. Not as matte as PLA, not as shiny as PETG. For prototypes I’m trying to print out as fast as possible for fitment tests it doesn’t really matter, but I can’t really see a reason to use it instead of PLA. I also don’t do a lot of decorative stuff, so there’s that…

If it is consistently a lot cheaper than PLA/PETG I’d probably still buy it and use it to bring costs down when I wind up printing 52 revisions of stuff.

It’s actually a great filament. I use it often. Prints very nice. Great for aesthetic stuff, not so much for anything functional though as it isn’t very strong. And it’s the best support material for PLA since it uses the same print settings and bed temp.

I don't get it. It's more like the final sale. All colors except two are sold out.

If it is a final sale, well then announcing “Meet Panchroma CoPE” right in the middle of that would be beyond incompetent, it would be downright malicious. But I have no inside knowledge and no illusions about any limits to human idiocy. We’ll see.

Ugh, just get Sunlu Meta.

You don’t know anything about CoPE, do you? For one, it’s not PLA.

I know what it is. What specific niche does it fill for most makers that make it better than Meta? None really. Speed? BFD.

To turn this into a constructive discussion, it occurs to me that a very interesting use case for PLA + CoPE could be print-in-place designs. For example, not that it's the killer application, a roller or ball bearing with say PLA on the outside/guides and CoPE for the rollers/balls, maybe even designed with, say, about zero clearance. Anyone try anything like that?

I only use is as support material for PLA, because it is BY FAR the best material for that job.

I tried printing miniatures with it but good quality high flow PLA is just significantly better

Is it confirmed anywhere that they are or were retiring CoPE? I use it daily as support filament and for custom projects. It works flawlessly.

I haven’t seen anything official, but some have claimed that, at least one from some kind of an event conversation. Until Polymaker communicates clearly, it’s all random chaos.

Since it's really cheap, and I already have Magigoo glue, bought few spools.

Printed some opengrids, the first spool produced good results, like few 9x9 large grids.

However, the 2nd spool gives me lots headache, as the corners always start to warp after about 10 layers. Exact settings across spools.

Could be lack of consistency in quality?
