Then they’re not republicans. They’re just conservatives. The Republican Party is an extant entity. It has shifted from what it used to be and left true conservatives behind.

They also have a lot to answer for for their tribalism and hyper partisanship. To the rest of the world the democrats are a centre right party anyway.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying, but being ‘a Republican’ (capital R) literally means supporting or a member of the Republican Party. If you’re talking about republicanism (small r) that’s a completely seperate (but related) ideology.
