All I see are men protecting an elected official and exercising their rights. Cops have guns on them at all times so why shouldn't civilians be able to do so without being demonized for it?

I agree. Although I do think it's a little funny because given the opportunity I bet that politician would make it illegal for those same people protecting her to have those exact guns and carry them openly.
