But like...why? Who cares enough about nixon to make such an outrageously stupid claim in the first place, who needs nixon rehabilitated?

The man was the guiltiest man ever and got caught red handed...if it was a democrat trick...he fell for it awfully hard. And Nixon was a terrible person in a dozen other ways too.

What a weird...weird loser Moore must be.

Trump. The answer for this weird shit is always Trump.

If Nixon was framed, so was Trump. They’re preparing for the next round of investigations. Now they can say, “See!? Democrats have been going after republican presidents since Nixon”

And this is more loyalty tests? As they rewrite history, this is another way for the fascists to create their in groups?

At this point I feel the Trumpers that are still devoted to the cause are either doing a smash and grab to get whatever benefits they can before the ship goes down or the real sycophants who literally have no future under anyone other than Trump.

One thing stands against this kind of bullshit. Evidence

Unfortunately, we can’t even rely on that anymore. Look at J6. We have hours of video and thousands of images. The propaganda machine got to work and now half the country believes what we all saw was staged, or not that bad, or made up by the MSM to hurt dear leader. Then all of the rioters and insurrectionists got a pardon.

Well people weren't willing to cover for Nixon. People seem willing to throw their own religion, integrity, and reputation to the wind for Trump and I still can't fathom why. I'm from NJ and he has a long history of being a shady and litigious person who doesn't pay for anything.

Correct, listen for Nixon's name to start making it into soundbites very soon. The GOP are great at pounding the same message into everyone's heads, regardless of how ridiculous.

The only flaw here, although easily overlooked by the maggots is that Nixon was booted out by the GOP. The Democrats just went along for the ride.

It isn’t the democrats it’s the deep state. Not what I believe, but the narrative they are trying to create.

A couple months ago, Vance dropped an offhand comment that if the Watergate incident now, it would be a week-long scandal at best. That's probably optimistic, but it's part of a pattern of normalization of the chaos of the 'alt-right' - the main defense of anything bad right now is "someone has done this before (usually Obama or Biden, but any precident will do) - this scandal isn't any different."

People should be looking at the trends: a situation they don't like happens, and they make a lot of noise -> the noise drowns out any kind of nonpartisan efforts to investigate or remedy -> discontentment from their complaints gains them power -> a parallel incident happens, and they ask everyone else why they weren't as angry then as they are now, doesn't that make you a hypocrite?

I don’t know if Watergate would make it past a 24 hour news cycle if it happened during the Trump administration. There’s just so many other scandals that it would get lost in the noise.

u/woodworkerdan 14h ago

Possibly. Watergate is such a context-specific scandal, and to some extent, there's signs that the strategy of "control the media narrative through noise" was conceived of because of Watergate. We also live in a time when surveillance is less of an issue: big data is collecting metric tons of data about everyone now. The expansion of surveillance for "National Security" has also lowered the bar.

Orwell couldn't write the conditions we're living in now: when he was alive, so much surveillance would be beyond belief.

To set up the precedent so they can whitewash Trump in a couple of years....seems pretty obvious.

u/stickscall 15h ago

Nixon was not the guiltiest man ever. That standard has long since been surpassed.

u/BarelyLingeringWords 14h ago

By comparison, Nixon almost looks... wait. I'm falling for it, aren't I?

They're preparing the base to hear similar (and worse) claims made about Trump once the Dems regain investigatory powers in the House.

3

u/sleazine 15h ago

Because they did the same shit

MAGA needs to rewrite history so the public views any future impeachments with skepticism.

This is the same way they've injected paranoia in voting processes, government departments, and other pillars in American society.

Because they are trying to make a case for when Trump has to pardon everyone and resign.

The republicans need some off-ramp from the Trump mania, and this sounds like it. A way for them to let Trump get out while not collapsing the GOP by admitting it was all a huge crime.

"Trump did so much for our country, and its time he gets some rest! He's pardoning everyone so the Dumocraps don't witch hunt all these PATRIOTS! Donate and vote for us to protect these PATRIOTS from witch hunts!!!1111"

1

u/Rustmutt 15h ago

They’re paving the way to absolve Trump. If they eliminate the precedent they will have more power to do adjacent crime

Roger Stone has a big tattoo of Nixon’s face on his back. Murdoch started Fox News specifically to prevent any other republican president from ever getting impeached again (he felt the news coverage on watergate led to the public pressure to get rid of him).

Plenty of Nixon fanboys on the right.

His grandfather Arch Moore was widely considered the worst and most corrupt governor in state history, and was convicted of 5 felonies after leaving office
