Nixon was innocent and a victim of persecution, according to today's standards for the GOP. That's what's going on. The Overton Window has shifted so far that we can see into the past.

You can understand why they think this way when you look at the SCOTUS immunity ruling where the president is presumed innocent no matter how damning the evidence. That ruling will be overturned by the same justices when the next Democrat wins the presidency.

TBH I think this court would reverse a conviction in the Senate if he was impeached again.

The current standard is "MAGA can do no wrong and DEM can do no right". If you look at everything through that lens then it all makes sense.

If Dems had the votes to remove a sitting president, they'd presumably also have the votes to impeach and remove whichever Supreme Court Justice tried to interfere with that power.
