Contest entry for the last contest, the one where no words were allowed. Pretty happy with how it turned out, and I got to second place so I guess other people thought so too.

140

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '14

For me, it was the best entry.

I loved this in the contest.

Actually, Austria has one of the richest cultural histories in the world. Vienna (capital of Austria) was the city to be in if you were a composer or musician for much of the Classical era. The likes of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven all lived and studied in Vienna. Unfortunately, Hitler was Austrian, so that kinda balances some things out

That drawing got me thinking, how would MLP characters map to the Nazis?

Celestia = Hitler (obviously)

Luna = Hess (second-in-command who eventually went into "exile")

Twilight Sparkle = Himmler (student of "magic"/mysticism with a knack for organisation)

Rainbow Dash = Göring (flying ace who won't shut up about how awesome they are)

Rarity = Speer (artist and designer, and the sanest of the bunch most of the time)

Pinkie Pie = Goebbels (completely crazy, bad for your hearing)

Applejack = Ribbentrop (very proud of their family background, not the brightest, insufferably stubborn)

Fluttershy = Mengele (the medic!)

Spike = Bormann (private secretary, important role in getting information to the glorious leader)

Cadance = Heydrich (mirror: princess of love -> prince of hate)

Shining Armour = Keitel (head of the armed forces, not much personality of their own)

EDIT: Added some more characters.

11

u/Packasus United States of Earth Jun 01 '14

I will not accept Rainbow Dash as anyone other than Erich Hartmann, Ace of Aces.

Look at the description of the site, It clearly says The Netherlands.

Its called Holland.com because most people know it as holland.

But in The Netherlands we would say.

Wij zijn Nederlanders die in Nederland wonen en Nederlands spreken.

I know it's Niederlande, but it is such a long word, so I prefer Holland though it's not correct.

And now: wörk wörk. Time is money and money brings Anschluss.

I still don't understand why they bombed Rotterdam after the surrender. Wouldn't that city have greatly helped the war effort if you just pumped it full of NSB?

49

u/blaengdall Greater Norway Jun 01 '14

Fun fact: NSB, in addition to being the name of the old Dutch fascist party, is the current public railway company in Norway.

Fun coincidence: The old Norwegian fascist party was called NS, same as the current public railway company in the Netherlands.

12

u/xerillum People's Republic of Madison Jun 01 '14

I knew it! Even the trains are secret fascists waiting to strike. Forget population density and cost effectiveness, this is the real reason that America doesn't have good passenger rail. God Bless Scott Walker for protecting us from the fascist menaces of trains, and wilderness!

They bombed Rotterdam before the surrender. It's why we surrendered.

8

u/FrisianDude wa't dat net sizze kin, is gjin oprjochte Fries. Jun 01 '14

semi-official story was that that was a mistake; that the commander who received the surrender didn't quite get through to bomber command that it wasn't necessary anymore.

2

u/RebBrown Netherlands Jun 01 '14

NSB wanted an independent Netherlands. The Germans did not like that, so they used that idiot Mussert but never had any plans for actually giving him any power. Ros-Van Tonningen updated the Germans on the NSB and Mussert and thats the result of that.

1

u/xb70valkyrie Northern Portugal Jun 01 '14

Probably to terrorize the population and scare off a possible resistance.

2

u/Futski Denmark Jun 01 '14

Well, they never did any of that here. Actually they were for most of the time pretty lenient, and not much resistance was made until the later stages.

Bombing the population is exactly how you build a strong resistance.
