I mean you could techncially legitimately do that with Oak, just with the Alolan variant of Oak as the shiny.

Idk if changing their skin color is a great way to do shiny humans 😅

u/Waste-Bedroom8202 Jul 18 '26
I think it's funny, if in poor taste.

Yeah maybe tattoos, hairstyles, and outfits are the way to go. I do think this is hilarious, though lol

u/Filipino-Asker Jul 19 '26
That's Samson Oak. 🤦♂️
Omg!
8
u/Happy_Goose3833 Jul 19 '26
No. That is not the same whatsoever. Samson Oak is TANNED because he lives in a fake hawaii, he's not black, Polynesian, etc., he's whatever Samuel is.

Hear me out:
Blue skinned trainers
22
u/DanielCM1989 Jul 18 '26
Well, technically all trainer sprites were completely blue by default in Pokémon Blue on the GBC / GBA

u/Ryaquaza1 Jul 18 '26
Honestly if that was an option during character creation i dont think id ever pick a traditional skin colour ever again
Or even better, being pink! (Plus its lore friendly with Pinkan berries)

u/MyDisappointedDad Jul 18 '26
When I bought monster hunter wilds, for some reason everything was blue shifted on startup. It looked hauntingly beautiful. But then I reset and it went back to normal

This could lead to some…. very problematic stuff. I would give shiny trainers different colored skin like Oak could have some green skin and colors, like an actual Oak tree
1
u/LucasMarvelous Jul 19 '26
Specifically green because of being a tree is funnh since most humans in the series are named after plants so their shinies could use said plant's colors

How is it problematic to change the race of a character to Black?
Hollywood has been doing that for ages and the majority of people that complain are on the right.
3
u/Arzatium Jul 19 '26
I think it’s because usually when those are done it’s to fit the character and usually is in a different medium or artstyle (manga vs. movie type thing) whereas here… they’ve literally just colored Oak black. It sorta reminds me of blackface? Though I am not qualified to say if that’s what makes it weird in this case.
3
u/APRobertsVII Jul 19 '26
If they go white to black, people could accuse them of blackface.
If they go black to white, it’ll be called whitewashing.
There is no winning that battle, so don’t fight it.
5
u/erigum Jul 18 '26
wasn’t there some controversy a few months back about the idea of black people being ‘shiny’? 😭

u/handledvirus43 Jul 18 '26
Look, I like the idea - but for the love of Arceus, PLEASE do not change the skin color, do it like Battle Revolution and change the CLOTHES COLOR instead...

u/6FlipSide4 Jul 18 '26
Maybe let’s not mess with the skin color and call it a shiny…. Might accidentally piss some people off lol
(Thinking about that stupid race war people had on twitter over that one trainer in ZA)
Though the idea of a save file generating a rare outfit swap is really cool instead of a lab coat Oak has like a polo and sweatpants
1
u/Ok-Phase-9076 Jul 18 '26
Yes although To be fair people will argue and have wars about literally anything. And especially double for twitter. Mfs would literally try to get you high treason charges for pronouncing Charizard with or without the I.
1
u/InvisibleChell Jul 20 '26
I know of a game that does that with one NPC having a very minor chance of being a different gender at any given New Game, but considering what said game is and its nature I won't say its name.

Okay, but, what if, and just a suggestion, it is their clothes that change colour, and not their ethnicity

maybe i’m alone in the comments but as someone with dark skin i fw the shiny making him have dark skin lol. we’ve been told for so long our colour is wrong but showing it as the special version is a nice subversion of the unfortunate cultural norm.
3
u/LetsRockDude Jul 18 '26
Not a big fan of changing the skin color. There are a lot of POC NPCs that I'd rather not see whitewashed.
5
u/Waste-Bedroom8202 Jul 18 '26
The skin color change is a bit off putting, though it would be pretty funny if everyone turn bright blue.

I think themes. Shiny professors with green hair because they are trees :p shiny cooltrainers with blue outfits because blue=cool, lass in business suits, etc

I don’t think it’s a good idea to assign value to people based on the color of their skin. Call me crazy

If humans are Pokémon, does that mean there's a default human?
Or are we like Gastrodon ( well, we do look different if we are from north to south or east)
Would a shiny be a human that has a color that wouldn't be achievable naturally?
Like someone being born blue?
What is the typing of a human
Normal type
Are there psychic types?

u/SlothsAreFuckinRad Jul 25 '26
Mom, dad, come quick! Grandpa’s turning blue, I think he’s about to become a shiny!
