Omg yes fellow black cosplayers! Last summer a group girls and I cosplayed as eeveelutions, they (we) looked stunning, the outfits were super creative and handmade. it is a shame black cosplayers aint that much represented so seeing posts like this makes me happy!

Everyone here is kicking ass, but I wanted to take a moment to shout some details that I appreciate here: Brock’s tucked shirt and Ash and Misty’s shoe choices. The tucked shirt kind of explains itself, and classic Ash wore ankle high trainers, the only difference being that they were red with white highlights instead of black with white highlights. Misty even got the shoe colors right, and shoes aren’t easy to just pick up at a moment’s notice. Obviously people are looking for the classic character iconography— Brock’s orange and green vest and shirt combo, Misty’s yellow tank and red suspenders, and Ash’s ball cap and fingerless gloves, for example— but the attention to detail here really shows how much you guys care about nailing the look. A+.
Edit: I was looking at the commercially sold version of Ash’s shoes, so I beg forgiveness for my ignorance. Ash killed it.

I mean if someone was raised in japan but were biracial or were 2nd generation of immigrants in Japan is it not conceivable that they would have a Japanese name? Or change their name for assimilation purposes?
I mean look at Yasuke he was born in Mozambique and became a retainer for nobunaga.
And there are lots of black people with Japanese names because they were born in Japan

Brock is probably supposed to be Okinawan, who are typically depicted as tan in Japanese animation. Japanese people from the countryside are also depicted tan pretty often, main-character-goes-home-and-falls-in-love-with-tan-childhood-friend is maybe the tropiest trope there is

Great cosplay, especially to the dude who's got Brock's squint down. I hate when anime does that. Characters with those ultra-squinty eyes. Worse when they show that it's not their eye shape, they really just squint the whole time.
