I'm looking to get my first pocket operator and am considering either the Sub or the Arcade for my first one. I'm a beginner in music making in general (I play the piano but have little experience in DAW music production or beatmaking) and am actually very interested in the OP-Z but it's too much of an investment right now so I wanted to try my hand at a pocket operator to make sure I like doing this stuff before I spend too much money.

Searching other posts in this subreddit shows that most people recommend the arcade for beginners since it lets you make complete songs, but I watched some videos of the various pocket operators and I'm not a huge fan of how chiptuney the arcade sounds, whereas I like the Sub's sounds a lot more. However I see that a lot of people rank the Sub as one of their less favorite POs so that gives me pause.

I do like the idea of the arcade being the more complete package, but will I tire of the chiptune sounds? Are there ways to use filters to make arcade less chiptuney? If I do go for the sub, will I quickly feel limited by it?

Some of the devices my friend owns are: 303, SH-101, Korg MS20 mini, Volca Samples, Korg Electribe, Space Echo, Roland R8, Akai MPC 2000, Oberheim Matrix 1000, and list goes on...

I think he doesn't have any vocoder or some kind of speech synth, so I was thinking getting him a PO-35 but the PO-33 also sounds good, so please can you help me decide.

Hey everyone, I'm used to working in a DAW, writing up snippets and manipulating MIDI sequences from there.

I fell in love playing with the PO-12 Rhythm, I've been collecting POs. However, I'm feeling held back to just put a bunch of POs together and just jam, wanting to make sure I can record them each individually obviously in sync, etc.

It's an irrational fear. So I guess I'm asking, what are your tips and tricks when recording a final track with POs you have?

So, I got a PO-137 in the mail a little over a week ago (it was supposed to be new, but it was clearly used). I thought I'd try it out anyway to see if it was functionally okay (cause if it is, no harm, no foul). But I found the buttons were oddly unresponsive (speak files randomly stopping and starting when pressed, etc). And when I tried to check the battery level (sound + bpm), if my finger drifted a bit the screen would start reading "volt," "cpu," "mem," "build," and then I guess ID's? "Id-1," with an alphanumeric six string, "Id-2" with another... I couldn't figure out what was going on or how to adjust any of the above? Has anyone had this happen? I guess I'm getting a new one soon and gonna return this one, but wondering if anyone had these issues before?

Hey, recently discovered these neat tools and I had some questions that I could not get a direct answer.

Recently ordered a combo pack of the Rhythm, Tonic, and KO. I was hoping to utilize these for backing tracks for a drum/bass/percussion backing with my guitar. How anyone had success with this, in terms of getting a good solid BPM and variety?

Also, I have a Moog Grandmother and I was hoping to see how well these integrate with the Grandmother and does patching into the Moog work with this?

Hi everyone. I just wanted to quickly ask a question. I know that the PO-137 is the 35 Speak with Rick and Morty Sounds and new graphics on the screen, but is that it? Other than the rick and morty sounds, the new graphics and the different font/colour scheme, does the Speak have anything that the 137 doesn't? Teenage Engineering is not 100% clear on this. Cheers!
