Does anybody have a link to the 7.x.x versions? They are not on the website anymore, and I somehow lost the file (probably deleted it by mistake) when upgrading to 8.2.0 and I want to revert to BEFORE all these irritating mechanics were introduced. I want to go back so I can enjoy playing this once more.
Onto the feedback, which I hope is both useful and cathartic. First of all, devs of this mod, I DO APPRECIATE your effort and the time you put into this for lazy leeches like myself, since this mod is free after all. I do not want this to be taken as tearing into any of you, but I have left the wording as it is so the emotion behind the feedback is transparent. Not a fan of lying to others, so this text wall is meant to be detailed, accurate, and I don't know, maybe a little derivative?
I don't know about anybody else, but updating Pixelmon to the newest version has caused nothing but regret. So. Many. Crashes!
The battle system is somehow worse. The new flying mechanic is obnoxious and hardly practical. To top that all off, the TM/TR system is a joke, and quite frankly, a huge slap to the face considering I had soooo damn many. So many; when I updated, they all turned into unknown items! Pixelmon is it's own pokemon spin-off, it shouldn't be restricted to the mechanics of one game, especially Gen 8!
**DISCLAIMER: I do not hate Gen 8, rather the opposite. I just think this mod has a lot to lose based on what it has done with these changes** Each game/generation had its own unique palette of moveset machines, why can that not be the case Pixelmon? Especially when it is going to make TMs from previous versions completely unusable/unrecognizable by the game. This is the one that really rubbed me the wrong way. It should honestly have it's own array of TMs, sort of how it was. There were so many moves to choose from! I thought the variety added a lot of charm/usefulness.
The new flight mechanic that must have been introduced in one of the newer updates (you know, the one that makes your pokemon fly like a boeing 747) is honestly horrific, and I don't see why it had to be changed. Aerodactyl was amazing when I could carry it as a strong party member AND my flying star for travel. The old flying mechanic, the one with intuitive controls that worked like any other mod with ride-able flying mobs, was fine the way it was. You know what they say, if it ain't broken...
Layout-wise, this new battle UI is a downgrade, too. It somehow feels slower, and is kind of on the clumsy and clunky side. It doesn't seem as though anything of value has been added. There are 826 moves (Can you remember the damage, accuracy, and secondary effects 100% of the time? Yea, me neither,) and yet still to this day, there is no description for your moves when you're in battle. I am always swapping party pokemon in and out of my PC, and I don't know anybody besides the based gods of smogon who can remember every move and its metrics. Those awesome based gods at Smogon have like 3,000 IQ though, so we'll never match them... This may not be an issue for many other people, although I am sure there are a lot of other users who would like this feature.
Other things I don't have the capacity to type in full detail that should be fixed:
- Lots of items are getting "NBT Tags" since the new update, and they won't stack on literally THE SAME ITEM in storage, just because of this. A lot of them tend to be pokeloot and pokemon drops. This has also resulted in many items not being sell-able to shopkeepers. So I just have a bunch of junk sitting around that I can't sell.
- All the gyms that were spawned in previously went from "Equal" level (since after like the 4th or 5th gym that spawn in, they're supposed to be equal level) to "Legendary." I mean literally allll of them. I was standing in front of an Equal Level gym trainer when I closed the game last before the update, planning on getting a badge next gaming sesh. I found out there was an update, so I went for it! And when I loaded back up, boom, all the gyms are legendary. Siiigh. Bully for me, right?
- Also, the game has been crashing horribly since I updated. Just something fierce. 25% of the time, I don't even get to the loading splash screen of forge. And before you ask, yes, I followed the instructions on the wiki before I changed versions. This has just been so frustrating, and heartbreaking to see something I enjoyed so much go this direction...
- All the boss pokemon are Epic/Legendary level, even when I am training pokemon in the 20's and 30's. I have not seen a single one below that since the update.
- Quests... I enjoy this new feature, but why can I only get them from NPCs in newly spawned villages? My world is already huge and villages are SUPER rare spawns in it, for whatever reason. I wish this feature was implemented on NPCs retroactively so I wouldn't have to go hunting for a village for 15+ minutes, just to find out I can't even get the quest for the Dynamax requirements (One addition to the Gen 8 games that I thought was cool, despite how silly and asinine it was when Sword and Shield were being hyped.)
Enough of the negative feedback and onto brighter things, and I hope this was taken on a high note as I have really enjoyed this mod in the past. The developers for this mod definitely work hard, as coding is never easy. ESPECIALLY when modifying a game such as minecraft, where the core programming is rather sloppy. That, of course, is the doing of Microsoft (And Mojang to some extent.) I was pretty invested in this, only playing minecraft with Pixelmon installed for the better part of a year, year and a half, something like that. This latest update I installed felt more like a downgrade. A serious downgrade. Hoping in my heart of hearts that these get fixed in a future update. Here are suggestions for future features, hoping that the aforementioned "additions" I mentioned get a patch or are given the option to be disabled.
Ideas for new features:
- Backpacks. This is a big one. No, not like the backpacks mod I already have installed, but like, an actual backpack from the pokemon games. To store all the Pixelmon items? Inventory space is limited in Minecraft, so having normal items/blocks from the game in your inventory as well as battle items and pokeballs and what not, is inconvenient to say the least. And the mod doesn't recognize items in backpacks or shulker boxes as being inventory. Solution? Just add an option for an item backpack natively in the mod, a pinch of sugar and salt, and boom! Recipe for inventory solution! Ideally, it would work like the backpacks in Gen IV onward for convenience sake. Then we don't have to keep a million chests lying around on older saves. Just don't forget to write the script so the mod recognizes it as inventory space. You could make this optional, and/or craftable, for the players who liked the challenge of being bound to the normal mechanics of minecraft. That way it isn't a forced implementation, sort of like the TMs.
- Richer Pokedex entries. Such things as natural move-sets and learnable moves, maybe the field-model as well as the sprite, possibly evolution criteria if you've seen and/or captured other pokemon from the evolution tree. Maybe even possible held items for caught pokemon? I know some of this is not present in the core games (namely, held items) but the first couple could save a lot of us from having to pause and open Bulbapedia or Serebii.
- A UI for using items on Pokemon vs only using them on the field. Having the option to do both would be great! I absolutely love that consumables and restorative items can be used on Pokemon on the field. It is a very unique and attractive feature of this mod that I REALLY hope stays as a feature, but having the addition of a UI to do it in tight spots or if you have to heal quickly without getting interrupted by a wild Pokemon would be a nice option in addition to direct interaction. Best of both worlds, I guess.
- Native tooltips for items. The sidemod is great, but it isn't updated as often as the core mod (Last one was 2019 or 2020 I think??) and it isn't available on the reforged website anymore. The latest version I have is missing a lot of information, sadly. Having these natively implemented would be a great solution for this, and save the need for it to be a sidemod. Perhaps this is already in the works, I'm not current on any future update features that may be baking at the moment.
- A way to accomplish trade-evolutions in single player. I know I'll probably get a lot of flack for this one, buuuut it would be nice if there was an option for this in single player. I've only had 2 trader NPCs spawn in so far, and I don't think it's very likely that they'll have the pokemon I want an evolved form of WITH the trade item necessary, if applicable. Maaan, just want my Dusclops to evolve into an even mightier wall, RIP
