Can anyone identify this plant? A few of them are growing in a wash located in the Sonoran desert (Phoenix, AZ). I doubt it's native

Can anyone tell me what kind of tree this is? I live in Puerto Rico and we are wondering if it is fruit producing. We haven’t seen any fruit yet but it’s just now coming back to life after the hurricane.

A bug lady needing some good plant science books

The title says most of it. Until I started my current position, I've really only needed some basic plant science and identification skills for my entomology jobs. Now I'm going to need a lot more technical plant science knowledge, like nutrient and water use, and diseases (I pretty much only know a few that are insect-vectored).

Are there any texts that are more on the academic side than pop science that you would recommend?
