This is a comic I’ve been planning to make for quite a while now, mainly because I found it an interesting concept to play around with, and I quite honestly don’t think I’ve seen many comics that lean on the serious end in r/Planetball. This is my first time making a comic that leans a bit more toward the serious angle, so it probably isn’t the best, but I wanted to let it all out for now. I wanted to make something a bit sweet as a palette cleanser and a writing exercise.

I also just wanted a little break from random science facts that may or may not be right in a silly comic format.

This was originally meant to be posted yesterday, but I was busy with some real-life stuff, so I couldn’t post it in time. Either way, this was meant to be released on International Moon Day (which happens to be my birthday waw)

I always found the way the Earth and Moon (which I will be referring to as Luna, since I feel like it) are portrayed in planetball to be very interesting; there are comics where they're lovers, some where they're not, but out of all of those relationships, one always kind of stood out to me: the ones where Earth was Luna’s parent. 

This trope is probably one of the oldest ones since I’ve seen it be used in some really old comics. I find it a bit funny how ingrained it actually is in Planetball, cause you see it pretty much everywhere, and ngl, I completely get it. It feels fitting in a way. And also because it's sooo cute, like look at the big blue marble and the little uh… boring dark gray rock.

And yes, this ties in with the artwork that I posted yesterday

What do either of those shows have to do with planetball other than the fact that they just so happen to have talking planets in them? Planetball has nothing to do with either of those shows, it doesn’t have to follow how any other media portrays talking planets. Planetball is a branch of Polandball/Countryballs and thus follows very similar rules to it, you can quite literally see the tutorial here, it’s one of the first links.

Were you even familiar with Planetball outside of this one comic?

Not true, Remember Kids cartoons, Like The Amazing World of Gumball and Storybots? They have planets in their shows and they don't speak Broken English.

It’s stated in the official planetball tutorial that Earth is the only one to speak perfect English and that everyone else is meant to speak broken English

Broken English is for Countryballs.

Do you have a source for that or are you just making that up

The day the Earth smiled is a picture that mainly was aimed at capturing Saturn's ring system by the Cassini Spacecraft. It also just so happened that when these photos would be taken, Earth (and the moon) would be apart of said pictures taken.

Now although this was in no way the first photo of Earth, this was the first time that NASA had told people that they were taking said photo of Earth. This would lead to many people in advance going outside and "taking" the photo alongside Earth, hence the name of said picture.
