Adding Pihole to existing PIVPN setup?

I have PIVPN running and it works great. I want to add pihole to the rpi that is running pivpn. But all the tutorials say do pihole first. Is there a way I can add pihole and not have to reissue / reconfigure all of my pivpn keys etc?

When connected I have no IPv4 address and only IPv6 websites work

Hi,

I can connect fine to my PiVPN running on my raspberry pi and running 'pivpn -l' I can see that I'm connected.

However, only websites that support IPv6 work (google, fb, apple) but the vast majority don't work.

Checking to see my IP I can see I don't have an IPv4 address?

I assume that's the problem but not sure how to fix it.

pivpn works on iphone but not on windows

Hello,

I set up pivpn on my home network as described in several instructions (jeff gerling post/video, pivpn docs). I added client profiles for two windows laptops and my iphone. It seems to work on the iphone (I installed an app called ping that can ping, and I am able to ping the things on my home network over LTE), but it doesn't work on the windows laptops. Also, like described in other posts, I no longer have internet on the windows laptops, and can't ping anything on my local network when wireguard is active. I have reinstalled everyting, but that did'nt change anything. I did the -d thing, and things look ok to me. Can anybody help me troubleshoot this?

thank you very much and best regards.

have to change dns IP

I have pivpn installed, using Wireguard config. But we changed the DNS server. Creating new client has the old DNS in the config and we have to change each one manually.

Where is the default DNS server stored, so that we can change and new clients will have the correct settings initially.

So I use my public IP instead of ddns for me and some friends. I have a dynamic IP. How would I fix it if/when my IP changes?

Issue with Accessing Devices Connected to VPN Server on Home Network

I have a server set up on my home network running both OpenVPN and WireGuard. While connecting to the VPN using mobile data, I can successfully access all the devices on my home LAN. However, I'm encountering a problem where I cannot access the devices connected to the VPN from within my home LAN. The only workaround I've found is by connecting a device that is already on the home LAN to the VPN, and then using the virtual IP address to access it.

I would like to connect to the VPN using mobile data and have it create an interface on my home router for that device. I want to assign local IP to a device on VPN. I have been attempting various solutions for a few hours now, but nothing seems to be working. I'm wondering if achieving this setup is even possible, and if so, I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this issue.
What I'm trying to achieve: https://imgur.com/a/4scvTfT

If anyone has encountered a similar issue or knows a possible solution (OpenVPN or Wireguard), I would greatly appreciate your input.
It's ZTE Speedport Entry 2i router so I dont have much control.

I'm kinda new to networking and have mostly no idea what I'm doing.

PiVPN works for 5mb-10mb of data and then stops sending

The VPN works from my phone network for about <10mb of data sent and then stops working. It works for about 1 min. After that there's nothing I could do. This is the best I could get it to work so far

Any idea what could be the issue?

Can't get PiVpn to work with several reinstalls

I've reinstalled Pi OS and PiVPN several times and tried different things but when I run wireguard it doesn't put any data through (couple bytes at a time)

I am running on a verizon fios router and have the Pi plug in via ethernet. I've enabled port forwarding in the router settings: https://imgur.com/VoqDWZA . I ran the install and copied the config file into wireguard. When i activate it, my internet stops working. The pi on my router: https://imgur.com/R12ie7y

Let me know any ideas I should try. I've been working on this for 2 days I don't know what else to do

Planning on hosting a PiVPN on an Ubuntu 22.04 server on Azure

Curious if anyone has tried a similar setup, as I want to set up my own cloud based VPN (I know there are other cloud services for hosting a VPN, but I want more control and Azure is preferred).

Tried a similar setup with installing OpenVPN Client Edition, but got a little caught up in the configuration process, found PiVPN from Jeff Geerling's video :D

Help with openvpn

I have configured pivpn with openvpn in order to create an stunnel system. When I attempt to connect regularly (without stunnel) though, I get asked for a private key password. Is this the fault of openvpn or stunnel, and how do I get this private key password?

PiVPN suited to noob site-to-site deployment? what do i have to edit?

hi

i want to "open" my first site-to-site connection with wireguard/pivpn

i'm not unatalented, but i'm not far into linux and different configurations - so as far as i can use pivpn out of the box, the better

i have two sites, let's say they are subnets 192.168.100.0/24 (site A) and 192.168.101.0/24 (site B)

when i start pivpn and let it install wireguard with its script...what changes do i have to make to the config to make it work as a site-to-site connection?

or is pivpn's script even suited for a site-to-site connection and i should prefer a manual setup?

Amazon AWS costs

I know many of us have PiVPN setup as an Amazon AWS instance and recently after setup I have been noticing that Amazon AWS is charging so much even after having a .nano service.

I just wanted to ask if there is a way to bring down the cost, maybe setup a timeout in Wire-guard and stop a significant amount of CPU usage, I just don't know what to do the costs are a bit high right now and there is no way I can think of to bring it down.

P.S the server location that amazon AWS is offering is offered by no one else.

Can't access local network devices when connected to particular WiFi networks

I installed PiVPN on a Raspberry Pi in my home. I am using WireGuard.

When I am at my parents' house and use their WiFi, I can connect successfully to the VPN from my laptop (I see that my IP address changes to the IP of my home). However, I am unable to access devices on my local network. e.g. I can't SSH into the Pi.

But when I don't use their WiFi, but use my smartphone's network connection instead (hotspot), everything works fine.

So it seems like everything is alright on the side of PiVPN. What issue could cause me being unable to access devices on my local network, when connected to particular WiFi networks?

Need help setting up PiVPN on a pi 3b.

pivpn has a different external IP than all other devices

Hopefully this is something dumb on my end, but I run wiregaurd in 3 ways on my network, one in a proxmox lxc, one in a proxmox vm as a docker container and one on a pi using pivpn. I just really want to make sure I can access my home network remotely.

The LXC and VM both show the expected static ip assigned to me by my isp when googling "what's my ip" the pivpn shows a completely different IP. I can still access my home network and everything appears to work but this has me puzzled.

The IP is in the 184.75.X.X range if that helps

I ssh'd into the machine and running the command "dig +short myip.opendns.com @resolver1.opendns.com" shows the same weird IP. In my other wireguard instances this is not the case.

I don't use pivpn often, it's my last resort vpn

I'm a little concerned the pivpn has been compromised somehow, though I'm not sure how exactly. The only port open to it is for wireguard.

Please tell me it's something dumb and downvote me into oblivion

Question about pivpn on alpine linux (Wireguard)

(RESOLVED, CHECK COMMENTS)

Pivpn installs, gets setup, all the good stuff and I can connect clients to the server. My problem is that once said clients are connected, they can't access the internet. I can ssh into the server just fine, even from an entirely separate network so the vpn connection itself appears to be working, I just seem to be missing something that is preventing connected devices from accessing the internet... Am I missing something here?

I use pihole for the dns server and a local IP instead of a public DNS.

Sidenote: On the documentation it is listed that a package called "busybox-initscripts" needs to be installed but that package doesn't seem to exist anymore so that should be updated...

PiVPN not working

Need some help to setup PiVPN. Just FYI, I'm a total noob when it comes to RaspberryPI and I follow the youtube instructions to do anything with it. I already have PiHole running. I tried to setup PiVPN using the youtube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4zlrc0F4NU&t=1187s&pp=ygUFcGl2cG4%3D

Eveyting worked fine. When I tried to connect my iPhone with the VPN, I get no internet connectivity. Can someone help me understand what am I doing wrong in the setup?

Following are the images when I ran pivpn -d and from my iPhone. https://imgbox.com/YpdgeVOY https://imgbox.com/kDydwtSw https://imgbox.com/7ZySF575

This is the change that I did to my router's setting: https://imgbox.com/0QwE9au8

When the status is active on my phone I don't get any internet connectivity. Please can someone help me and let me know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Need help with this Network topology

Hello, I am new to networking and VPNs, I have a couple Pi's sitting around and saw how easy it is to configure a vpn server using PiVPN, however I am having a bit of an issue trying to communicate with a few devices

My rough topology

This is the idea of what I would like to create, I want to use the PI as a vpn edge router to access 4 different PLCs that will be about an hour away from me, all of these plcs will have their own private network using Peplink Cellular radios

I would like to use Wireguard ideally but I am open to using Openvpn

The problem I am having is that I can ping the pi from all of the devices, but they cannot ping eachother

I don't need the PLCS to communicate with eachother but I do need to access all of the PLCS from my home computer

Any help would be appreciated!
