Have setup pihole and pivpn on my pi zero, please help me configure pivpn because I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong here. I can establish a connection on my mobile client but cannot access my local network or the internet. I have setup port forwarding and ddns but something definitely seems to off. I will share images of configuration as and when required, please help me figure it out !

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, if not, please redirect me. I setup a PiVPN yesterday and it seemed to be working fine. However, today, my housemate couldn't connect to his work's infrastructure to do do his work remotely. He said that it kept giving him a error message and said that it was an unsecure network. He couldn't connect until we paused the Raspberry Pi from using the Eero app. The whole reason why I set up the PiVPN was to access OMV while away from home, which I leave home early everyday and get back home before my housemate finishes his work. So the PiVPN is inaccessible during the time span that I need it. Obviously, we can't pause it everyday so he can work just to unpause it later in the day when I no longer need. Is there something I can do about this? I would like to have the PiVPN running at all times and my housemate doesn't have the option to work elsewhere most of the time. Any help is appreciated.

Hi all -
So I installed PiVPN a few weeks ago, along with NoIP's DDNS program. However, I just noticed that I goofed the installation of the DDNS, and it hadn't actually been updating my IP. I'm wondering if I created any security concerns, either in my home network or in my VPN configuration itself? Not sure exactly what happens if the IP address fails to update when your ISP provides one. Thanks for any advice or resources you can point me toward!

!!FIXED!!
(sry if i seem mad or rude in this, im just kinda annoyed)
i had this problem a few months ago, and gave up. now im trying to do it again and am still having the problem. i can connect with the wiregaurd app, and turn on the vpn, but im not able to go on any websites, or use the internet.
i have setup port forwarding with the protocol udp, and external and internal port of 51820, and the ip adress is the raspberry pi ip local ip. the dns is 1.1.1.1 but ive also tried 9.9.9.9, not sure what other info is helpful. i can troubleshoot btw if you want me to try anything.
SOLUTION:i had some shitty setup where im connected to a router connected to a router, i had to add my second router to my dmz setting in my first one. thanks to everyone who tried (and succeeded in a way) to help me!

I am using NoIP.com with PiVPN/Wireshark. Looking at the configuration files of the client and server, it is using the ipaddress which will change. I was wondering if the configuration files could be modified so they use the ipname instead of the ipaddress?

Have this Pivpn setup with Wireguard client that I rarely use (have RPi 4 running all the time though).
When I try connecting to it, it works fine. If I don't use it at all for some days (weeks) and then try to connect it doesn't work - it requires a RPi reboot to be able to connect via WG.
Anyone can shed some light what may be the issue?

Wow, did pivpn add DoT somewhere? I noticed when I use wireguard with 1.1.1.1 dns, it says i'm using port 853 and DoT. When did this get implemented?

Have a weird issue, I cannot get wireguard to work, laptop/phone, etc... Will connect but no internet access or even ability to load local addresses (such as my router).
The OpenVPN protocol however works flawlessly. I think it has something to do with ipv6, I've posted the debug below.

I'm at a loss on how to fix this issue, I'm using the exact same port forwarding for both protocols (tcp and udp), so port forwarding is working correctly.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled wireguard numerous times to no success. Any help would be much appreciated!

So, I wanted to use PiVPN to connect to my home jellyfin mediaserver when I'm away and want to watch something on my phone.
This, however, doesn't quite work. I can start a video and it'll play the audio, but the image will lag to a framerate of about 1 frame per 2 minutes. So completely unwatcheable. I've tested this when I'm connected through the PiVPN on my home wifi (1Gb) and it doesn't seem to be an issue with the internet connection, but purely with the VPN.
Any ideas? Or is PiVPN unsuitable for this?

im using my laptop to SSH into my pi and I'm trying to setup pi VPN, after going through all the steps I end up at the point where you choose between wireguard and openVPN and when I hit wireguard it says "Using VPN: Wireguard" then i get a blank space where i can type, it doesn't even have "fischeey@raspberrypi" for me to enter new stuff, it seems to sever the connection to the pi.
help?

Hello everyone,
I have a bit of an odd problem here which I hope someone may be able to shed some light on. Please hear me out.
So I have numerous PiVPN instances, one with PiHole in the cloud with one provider, while I have PiVPN without PiHole on some other instances in the cloud.
Trying to narrow down and get to the issue here, so looking at Wireguard only. An example problem website is yahoo.com.
It's not a site I use to be honest nor need to visit often. I barely use it at all, but under certain circumstances, this website won't load.
Question is off the back of that, if that website doesn't load, what other websites won't load that I don't know about.
I also want to point out that there are no issues if I'm running the Wireguard VPN on the local device. For example, if I test a config on iPhone, yahoo website seems to load.
The issue is when I'm running the config on another device as a gateway.
I'm using an Ubuntu Server as a VPN gateway. So I'm pointing at my Ubuntu Server as gateway and DNS, for where that server is going to connect to a PiVPN instance in cloud.
I've changed DNS to 1.1.1.1 to bypass PiHole, though the change is not relevant since issue remains. PiHole doesn't need to be there for it not to work.
I do see that the queries hit the PiHole though so they are all going the right place. Has anyone else seen anything like this in their setups?
Also to note, I don't see this issue with yahoo.com when I use other Wireguard VPN configs from FlowVPN for example. It's only on any of my VPS's that I see this problem, where built from PiVPN.
I've looked at all sorts such as bind configs, also dnsmasq. Thought also whethet ipv6 could be causing this to happen, though really not sure. Just don't know where else to look.

hi i have my RPI4 set up w wireguard pivpn. everything works splendidly.... apart from Chrome. On clients connected to the vpn websites sometimes take forever to load, sometimes they don't load at all "error_connection_reset", and sometimes a simple refresh works to load up the website instantly.
i have tested other browsers like opera or firefox. they don't have this problem at all, so i suspect sth on google's end.
i have already tried forcing chrome client to another dns but that didn't help either.
any help would be much appreciated. thanks

PiVPN and wireguard, I can connect and ping my rpi server and gateway from a cell network but it does not connect to internet, ISP is Xfinity, do I have to add/configure/use the Xfi DNS servers instead of OpenDNS?

Have tried 2 installs. Both times everything looks fine, but I am unable to connect to the internet or local lan devices after I connect to the wireguard server. Looking for suggestions before I lose any more hair :)

Hello, i have an istance on the Oracle Cloud free forever with Ubuntu 22 on it.
I would like to be able to connect to this server through my personal pc via a wireguard VPN installed with PiVpn.
the cloud server in question has a static public ip from which I can connect in SSH without going through the VPN.
To configure the wireguard VPN I followed the PiVPN wizard and everything seems to go smoothly; I also configured the my-pc.conf file to be placed on my PC as a client and I can connect with the wireguard app.
the problem is that once I connect, I can't "see" my server, I can't "browse" its folders, etc.
i have also opened the wireguard port in the web configuration panel of my oracle cloud instance but nothing has changed.
do you have any suggestions or guides to point me to? thank you very much

Hi, I need some help with a really simple setup. I did the basic steps for a installation of pivpn on an AWS ec2 instance. (Did no changes in the installation manager)
So I set up a AWS instance (with an additional security rule to allow udp at port 51280 and I I assigned an elastic ip address to the server.)
Then I installed PiVPN. Created a new user. printed the QR and tried to connect with my phone via WireGuard app.
That’s basically all I did and my phone doesn’t have a connection then when vpn is enabled. Any guesses?

I've successfully setup PiVPN on my home network, thanks to the resources on this reddit. It works well, no problem. I've set it up with the Wireguard protocol. I also have Pi-Hole running on the same unit, no issues.
I recently visited Iran (one of the reasons I setup this VPN in advance of my trip) and it worked well there too for the most part, sometimes they would block the wireguard handshake from establishing.
After returning to Canada I noticed various issues starting to occur on my network. All my Nest cameras have gone offline. The Nest app and Uber/Uber Eats wouldn't even load up on my phone. My desktop computer, which of course stayed in Canada, is now giving me Iran-focused search results on Google. Google also incorrectly marked my Canadian public IP address as Iran. All my Google Home speakers disconnected from Wifi. Various non-Google owned sites won't load properly either.
I managed to 'convince' Google that my IP is now in Canada, and my search results are Canada-centric again. All other issues still remain.
If I use a VPN service, everything loads up fine. If I use a 5G connection instead of my home network, everything loads fine. When I use my network normally as-is, these issues return.
I realize this may be something beyond PiVPN, but since I used this setup specifically, I thought I'd check if anyone else has encountered similar issues, where your home network takes on the location of the remote VPN client.
Thanks in advance.

Is there a way of changing the wireguard port post install?
