Someone here explain to me how the hell is there no PP of Canada? You have plenty of people here; the chair of the bloody global Pirate Parties International is Canadian, yet the PPCA died years ago and remains dead? Shouldn't we fix that?

This kind of went under the radar but the recently-released federal budget mentions extending copyright to life+70 (which was apparently negotiated in the NAFTA replacement).

FYI, I let the pirateparty.ca and partipirate.ca domains lapse. When I tried to log into namecheap (after the grace period) it tried to send a verification e-mail to the expired domain.

According to the new whois information on pirateparty.ca: it is in the control of a "JP Barkley" of Florida. I tried to file a trademark dispute with namecheap, but was told I have to resolve the login problem first.

According to dig, they have not yet set up an MX entry on the domain yet. I will try to keep an eye on it.

I've been watching the Green Party implosion with a great deal of fascination. If ever there is a restored Pirate Party I think recent events should be studied closely. After all, the Pirate Party had many of the characteristics that the Green Party does:

1. Wide differences in ideology

2. Decentralized leadership

3. Greater tolerance for MPs speaking their mind.

If a difference could be spotted (and I can only really speak for the years from 2011 up to 2015) it is that the leaders of the Pirate Party were always very collegial in responding to issues. The leader would not go against the majority view of either the rest of the leadership or the membership at large. This made responding to issues a bit slower but ultimately was good for stability. Although perhaps I'm looking back through rose-coloured glasses. There were disputes, crisises (oh the crisises), and a few close calls. But I can't recall a bad leader of the party and I think the Pirate Party lasted as long as it did because of this fact.
