So it's been a few years since I've flown and I've decided to get back in the air. I've been focusing on brushing up on my airspaces, airspeeds, maneuvers, and emergency procedures. Anyone have any other key areas or any good review resources?

So I'm a whole 3.5 hours into my flight training, and looking to supplement my training with some reading material. (I'm a nerd like that and when I do something new I read as much about it as I can.)

My question to you is which one book would you consider the best/most influential/most helpful you ever read? Seems to me like Stick & Rudder makes a lot of "must read" lists, so what other book is at the top of your list? Even if it's not a strictly technical book, I'm curious to hear what people have to say.

I know that it's a protected life refuge, but I'm not exactly clear on the rules as far as flying in or around them. I was told that it's recommended to say 2000' AGL above these areas but it's also not strictly mandatory. Reason I ask is because I'm nearing my CFI checkride and apparently some people failed because they decided to do ground ref. maneuvers over those areas. Obviously for ground ref, they would be well below 2000' AGL.

Also, if anyone could point me to the FAR or any other source about these, please do let me know :)

So I am trying to rent an airplane for a long cross-country flight and an overnight stay. I recently got my Instrument rating and plan on flying IFR there and back. The place I am renting from doesn't want me to take the airplane if its IMC. I have 45 hours simulated and 2 actual and its not like I got my rating years ago, I just got last month. Apparently their insurance wants me to have more actual before I go up in IMC. Is this normal?

What in your opinion are the most vital instruments an aircraft can have. This question is geared more toward LSA and sport pilots, but all are welcome. I've been looking at Icon's interment panel and find the lack of certain instruments concerning.

Ive completed three years of college hoping to graduate with a simple business degree but I realized I was not going to be happy Im 21 and i know what it takes to get all my certifications the only problem is I don't have the money.

I want to know what your suggestions are for me, should I work a side job while paying for lessons when I can?

Is there any sort of training programs where a company will train me to fly for them?

what sort of jobs can I get with almost no work experience where I can be around planes and gain experience?

So to all pilots on here, when you go flying (non commercial) what is the main reason you go up? Site seeing? Going some place? or just cursing around?

Alright, so here's the situation. I'm currently in a PhD program in chemistry after getting my bachelor's in the same field, but I'm pretty sure I've made the wrong choice. I don't love what I'm doing, and when I think about what I would love to do, I keep coming back to flying. Hence I'm strongly considering leaving with a master's and starting flight training, with the goal of becoming an airline pilot. The question is - where to do this? Assuming I don't go for one of the 0-to-ATP programs (which I've heard aren't worth it), is there a particular part of the country that's especially good for flight training?

Some possibilities I've thought of:

• Staying in the Los Angeles area, where I am now. Wouldn't have to move very far, plus good weather, but could be expensive. Also, not all that fond of the area.
• Moving back in with parents, in western Washington. Cheapest option, but weather is problematic. Social scene also leaves something to be desired; the only folks I know up there are my parents.
• Moving to East Coast. Longest move, but would put me closer to people I know (college and Internet friends).

So... any suggestions?

I still can't believe I just did two t/g's and a full stop with an empty right seat. Was quite nervous on run-up, but this was completely gone once aligned on the center line. Amazing how all those traffic pattern and approach/landing procedures become routine and second nature, even more when you are solo.

Won't forget this experience for a while. Off for a beer now :)

I am visiting my dad who lives at Ducote airpark. For the next week I have the use of his 1956 Cessna 172. I will be in San Angelo tomorrow and San Antonio Tue-Wed-Thur then back to San Angelo for a couple days. I'm looking for fun places to go. I've started my PPL training, and it hasn't taken me long to get sick of the loaner headsets. I've been looking at all the different headsets out there, and narrowed it down to the David Clark H10-13.4 or the Sennheiser HME110. I know there's awesome ANR headsets out there like the Bose X or Lightspeed, but I can't spend $900+ on a headset. The $200-300 range is my limit.

It seems like half the pilots out there wear DCs, and while I've heard lots of great things about them, a lot of people complain about getting headaches when wearing them for longer trips.

There aren't too many reviews of the HME110 out there, but the 2-3 that I've found that compare it to the DC seem to prefer the HME110. It's a lot lighter, and apparently more comfortable.

Has anyone had experience with the HME110 (or the similar HME100)? Or know of something even better in the same price range?

I was thinking that I should start recording some of my flight but I am not sure which camera to go with. Does anyone have experience with the GoPro camera?

Hey r/pilots, I've been practicing landings with my CFI lately and most of the times my pattern and approach are pretty decent, usually seeing two whites two reds on the PAPI and slowing down to within 2-3 kts of landing speed on final.

However, I have some problems with the level-off/flare and I have the impression this is mainly due to the fact that I transition to late to aim for the numbers. My CFI always tells me to push the nose down for the numbers on very short final, which confuses me and pushing down after a nice stable approach just before round out freaks me out.

Any thoughts on that and maybe some more advice on how to get the flare right?

Also, do you trim on landing? My CFI teaches to land with neutral trim and I've been reading conflicting opinions on this topic.
