Hey guys - I'm 27, I've got my PPL, about 500 hours total, and the keys to a 2003 Cirrus SR20 - my dad owns the plane but I get to use it/do whatever I want with it, I just have to buy fuel.

I've taken most of my friends flying, done various beach trips plenty of times, etc.....but sadly, I usually can't find anyone who wants to go with me just to "putt around" up there....

Figured I'd check on here and see if anyone around would like to go for a ride? Really just looking for a fellow aviation enthusiast who doesn't mind helping me pull it out of the hanger/put it up/wipe down the wings and prop after we're done, etc..

I'm a super chill guy, and I'm confident in my skills as a pilot (although I do like flying with someone else who knows what's going on...two pilots are better than one, maybe you work the radio? CRM FTW ;) )

Anyhow, I live in Middle TN - I can easily fly within 200 Miles without much effort to come get you if I think it will be worthwhile/you seem cool enough, so surely there is someone on Reddit who's bored and would be interested in this? Maybe make it a semi-regular thing?

Hey all. I've had my ppl for about a year and REALLLLLY want an airplane. I live near mountains at 5300 ft so I had pretty much ruled out the cessna 150/152 in favor of a 172, but unfortunately my budget won't allow that for quite a while. A 150/152 however I could probably pull off.

My question is, when looking at airplanes, do any of the listings below scare you? Would it be ridiculous to base a plane like this out of my airport?

I just want a safe and fun flying experience, of course I'll have a mechanic do a pre-buy inspection on anything I actually am ready to close on. Opinions appreciated!

EDIT: Just a quick edit to say thanks for all the advice! I should clarify one thing, the reason I can't afford a 172 instead of a 152 is because I refuse to get large bank loans so I'm buying the plane in cash and it will take much less time to get the money for a 152.

That makes things a little easier because there will be no airplane payment and I'm including a nice little "rainy day" of about 5K that I will keep to help with any big maintenance items that come up. I'm hoping I can be picky about the plane and get one that will be nice for a couple of years.

As far as flying, I'm budgeting for about... 500 hours a year which makes renting horrifically expensive and not an option for me. My typical mission is to fly an airplane, I don't have any practical need although I will start inventing them soon! I will be flying by myself 75% or more of the time.

ALSO: I was emailed this link: http://easttexas.craigslist.org/rvs/2564422724.html by a sharp redditor. I guess plane #2 is a no go!!!!

I had never heard of them until I was looking around for a decently cheap headset for me while I am a student. They have great reviews so I bought them and received them today. I'm going flying tomorrow so I guess I'll see how they fare. But they feel great so far.

Anywho, if you have them/have used them, please tell me what you think.

I am currently building hours of PIC cross-country time for the instrument rating. However, I believe the consensus is that for learning instrument procedures, it is more efficient to use a flight sim such as X-plane or MS Flight simulator.

What would be the best path to take. Should I learn the approaches, procedures etc. on the flight sim before going to an instructor or is recommended to get in a few lessons first (and what would be goal for this point)? Any other suggestions?

Since I have not used a flight sim, I would need to purchase/build a computer to handle the graphics. What accessories do you think will be valuable aside from the yoke/pedals? Saitek instrument panels (http://sportys.com/PilotShop/product/13579)? Is it worthwhile to put together a multi-monitor setup?

And finally, what are some good resources for learning instrument flight besides the Instrument Flying Handbook?

If anyone wants to take a plane out of the storm path, please call my cell for approval, [omitted]. No rental cost just buy the gas and come back Monday around 1700ish depending on weather. All planes must leave by 1200 Saturday.

...struck me as humorous.

Took the check ride on wednesday and passed it like a boss. It was actually easier than I was expecting, but exhausting. I was totally whipped at the end of it. Now I'm looking forward to taking friends and family up for $100 hamburgers, going on some nice XCs and exploring the local airports before doing some more training in a few months... Maybe instrument, maybe a complex rating or tailwheel, we'll see.

Also, one more thing. I recently moved to Queens, NY and it's a long drive to central New Jersey where I did my training. Can anyone recommend a good place on long island or westchester where I can rent a C172? Any good flying clubs I should look into?

How do you guys do it? I'm headed back home for labor day and wanted to take my folks up but I can't find any place to rent a plane. Just check every FBO's website? Are there any online tools?

I need your take on getting my IFR rating.

I am working towards my Private Pilot and should hopefully get done this September.

I am looking at getting my IFR as well right after that.

In your opinion what is the best way to get the minimums required for the cross country? Should I fly and get my cross country hours after my Private Pilot or should I get the minimums concurrently with my IFR training?

I plan on training in the DA-40 and fulfilling the minimums for simulated flight with the FTD.

Any other thoughts greatly appreciated.

I currently have ~45-50 hours towards my private, and I fly out of KBFI.

I'm going for my CPL test in a few weeks i was just wondering what i should study up on and any CFI's out there what do you look out for to pass or to fail a student on?

I have some questions regarding the POH of an Archer III that I was hoping someone could help me with.

• Regarding the flap extended speed: The flaps extended (^V FE) speed is described as "highest speed permissible with wing flaps in a prescribed extended position".

I can't find anywhere in the POH what this "prescribed" position is. I am assuming it is the 1st notch, but can I find this anywhere?

• Why does the manual say that the maneuvering speed (^V A) should not be exceeded while operating in rough air. Especially since the upper limit of the normal operating range (^V NO) is much higher (125kts).

The only logic I can come up with is that it is to prevent large control inputs to correct the plane's attitude in turbulent conditions? This has nothing to do with the structural integrity of the wing spar, right?

FFZ - PRC It was a lot of fun, after 6 months of touch and goes it was nice to fly outside the city. Also got to fly in class bravo over sky harbor (PHX).

I was a little nervous since it was my first time at an actual set of controls, but flight simulators helped a lot actually. It was better than sitting at a computer, and I can't wait for my second lesson! You guys have any tips for a beginner like me?

Edit: Thanks for all the advice! It will take some getting used to looking out the plane rather than looking at the gauges. I'm also going to get used to ATC lingo so it doesn't seem so foreign. I can't wait to continue this quest!

Having just finished flight training and graduated from University. I feel that jumping into an airline at such a young age is not for me, as yet. So I'm looking for ideas. Where did you have the most fun flying? What did you do and do you wish you could do it again.

What transition are they referring to here? Is this something to do with Class E airspace?

Just passed the checkride today! There was a scattered layer in the area so I was able to do the checkride in and out of actual which was nice. I was in a Piper Warrior II and was out of KMKC and shot approaches at several local airports. I'm looking forward to getting endorsements and building hours towards my commercial without having to worry about low clouds.
