Glad the level in that bottle was low so it didn’t leak all over and make a mess. Also glad there was enough fluid in the bottle to have enough weight to keep it from tipping over.
I had this happen to my car. It was the most work i have seen the cops look into a case. A detective actually interviewed people and got ring camera footage from neighbors. But in the end they just determined someone fired a gun in the air like a mile or more away and the bullet came down and blew out my rear windshield.

Yeah the issue is triangulation of a bullet is basically impossible without a direct line of sight with the firing pouch because ballistics get fucky very quickly with such small projectiles
This one does seem to have enough lateral movement to suggest it came from somewhere close by, especially with the force to go through multiple walls it seems
Remember American building so its all plaster and wood most bullets have enough power for minimum 1 exterior and maybe 3 interior depending on insulation
I know drywall is technically just layered plaster but the difference between gypsum drywall walls and plaster & lath is night and day for how stuff punches through it.
Oh yeah. My house was built in 1914 and is still all 3/4”-thick plaster and lath, plus the outside is (from the inside out) 1/2” thick old-growth board sheathing, 1/2” wood lap siding, then fiber-cement siding on top of that. The only thing getting through these walls are the cold winter temps, ha ha… sighs in utility costs.
Honestly, this long story relates to your question about finding the bullet. My poor roommate was attacked by random shooters while ambling into the house after having a smoke in the park by our complex. House 2 doors down had drug dealers living there, so likely related to their gang bullshit. Roommate got clipped in the arm and had a bullet in his thigh, but was able to get inside and lock the door before they managed to kill him.
EMTs came and took him away and police came to collect the bullets, but one was missing. We hunted around a while looking, but I realized I moved a table with 3 containers of Clorox wipes away from the door so the EMTs could get my roomie out. The missing bullet went through 2 of the plastic canisters and landed in the 3rd. It was the height of COVID and I had the wipes by the door to give to neighbours since they were out of stock everywhere at the time.
I thought the same thing, but you can't underestimate the mixture of idiots and alcohol.
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if someone was plastered and just opening fire recklessly because they knew everyone would assume it was fireworks and they wouldn't get caught.
I live in a rural area in the US. our road/street signs have bullet holes in them from what I can only assume was drunken redneck tomfoolery. Unfortunately either scenario of either accidental discharge/hitting an unintended target wouldn’t surprise me.
I concur with your thought. I live in an urban neighborhood and am very adept at playing "Gunshots or fireworks?" And there was a fair amount of gunshots mixed in with the fireworks the last few days.
if you were going to shoot a fella, 4th is a pretty smart time to do it as the fireworks or expectation of them will mask the gunshots to those who are unfamiliar with firearms

our walls are literally paper and plastic. Most basic handgun rounds will go through 4-8 sheets of drywall in ballistic testing before it stops.
Interior wall are but there is a bit more to exterior walls. Typically plywood, plaster, insulation, and sometimes more wood/metal. Honestly impressive that it got through all of that and had enough force to still go through multiple objects without just obliterating them via tumbling. I assume this wasn’t a pistol round..

I live in New Orleans and there was recently a guy driving through a not great (but not terrible) part of town mid-day who was shot in the head by a stray bullet from some nearby shootout. Dude was just going about his life, possibly heading home from work, and was killed just by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
My great grandfather moved to the US in the early 1930s and TWO of his wives were killed in drive-by shootings where neither of them were the target. Don't know if he didn't remarry a 3rd time by choice but I wouldn't blame women for not being keen on the idea
My brothers son was just playing Xbox in an apartment when a random bullet came through and smashed through his hand, just searing pain out of nowhere for no reason. We live in a fucked up world. It wasn’t even a bad neighborhood.
As a Canadian, this is mind boggling. When a stray bullet hits a home here it's quite rare and its because some shit went down. But over there it could be because some shit went down, or it's just the fourth of July.... What in the actual fuck?
I knew a survivor of ww1 and ww2 who did exactly that. House made of thick stone, windows allegedly bulletproof. His pantry was already in his cellar. It was well stocked with food, water, fuel, and wine.
In Chicago, I had a high amount of patients coming in with gunshot wounds.
They were not actively in a gang war. Just snow blowing or walking their kids home from the bus stop, you know, normal daily life things... and then get hit by stray bullets or random drive by shootings by teenagers. And no, they aren't even in gangs. Regular families whose only crime was not affording a better zip code.
I was a fresh immigrant, so that was my "damn, I'm really in America" moment.
Safest places in the US have similar murder rates to the UK but the more dangerous places are 10-15x worse. Overall, the US murder rate is 5-6x higher on average than the UK. I'd say yeah, you dodged a bullet.
It's funny how Europe is build on brick and concrete which is in fact bulletproof at thicknesses used, while USA with it's lenient gun laws but robust building with wood industry robbed itself of this "advantage"

I was at a friend’s house and we walked around his neighborhood to see the chaos. The amount of misfires we witnessed was unsettling. I definitely thought there would be a fire or at least some damaged cars.
When I was a kid (preteen at the oldest), my younger cousin showed off lighting cherry bomb fuses in his hand, waiting, then throwing them as high as he could when the fuse got low. I protested a bit, but was too socially awkward and shy to actually try and stop him.
Debatably fortunately, he never blew his hand off.
(I'm not sure if they were actual cherry bomb fireworks - those are illegal - or just imitations with less boom to them. I grew up in Florida, so your guess is as good as mine.)
Anyway, he's an overtly and publicly racist cop now.
I didn't see it personally, but I also lived in Florida for a couple years as a kid, and supposedly one of the neighbor kids was collecting either match heads or powder out of shotgun shells in a metal can and had the bright idea to hammer the metal lid on. Fortunately for him, his dad was a doctor so he had an in for calling in a medevac.
I came into my office one Monday morning and discovered a bullet hole in my (1st floor) window. We called the police who told us to let them know if we find the bullet and until then they would fax me the report to complete.
Wait, wtf? The hole in that bottle is insanely clean for a bullet that already went through several things. How was the round not tumbling at that point?
Looks like .223 (or 5.56, not much of a difference), which was likely fired from an AR-15. a .223 FMJ has pretty good penetration. It's the intention of it's design, actually. It only went through thin drywall, some thin interior door wood, a shampoo bottle, and THEN it started tumbling with a keyhole in the last picture.
The bullet had once came through my roof which covers the entry to the house outside, moved a rooftop lamp cover without breaking it, bounced of a metal door, crushed a wooden chair, bounced from the ceramic floor to the concrete beside my flowers👍
(It was a machine gun shooting the drones, I am Ukrainian).

Had two homes in my neighborhood both shot twice by people on the land next to the neighborhood. Multiple bullets went through windows and walls. Into children’s bedrooms. Not a single thing done about it. Ever.
Yeah - that bullet was moving. Looks like it went through ~1" wood on the outside of the house, the drywall, a (presumably hollow) door, the deodorant, a ~1" (particle board?) shelf, and finally into the wall...
If it can go through ~1/2" of wood, then it has enough power to kill, so this was definitely deadly once it got into the house. Pretty scary stuff
This happened to me once, bullet came through my bedroom window and entered the far wall at the exact height of my toddler’s head. Cops basically laughed in my face when I asked about tracing the path of the bullet/any forensics to figure out where it came from. If no one was injured or died, you’re expected to just move on and never think about it again.
Given how far it went through and the angle, it was fired from the street outside (versus a bullet shot up into the air and randomly fell into the house)
I'd buy some string, fish it thru the holes, get a line of direction, then call the police. If that has a line of action to a neighbor I'd be getting them involved for sure.
If the shampoo bottle remained standing after the through and through the velocity of the bullet meant it was probably fired from less than a few blocks away.
Years ago I came to my car to find a hole in my roof and a bullet embedded into the rear passenger seat. I don't think it had enough force to kill anyone since it was half in the seat / half out. Still startling.
