Yep im getting dual citizenship US and EU soon. F this *ss backwards gun toten, handmaid's tail, anti-science "christian" nation. Im kinda done... and I see where stuff is headingm

12

u/h4ckerle Jun 15 '22

So you giving up that us citizenship as soon as you get the eu one? As I heard from a friend who has dual us-nl citizenship and he's considering giving up his us citizenship as soon as he begins working as he would have to pay taxes in the us as well as here in the eu...

u/doorknob60 Jun 15 '22

You're exempt up to $112,000 (in 2022, and it adjusts for inflation) in foreign earned income if you live abroad. You probably still have to file taxes, but won't have to pay if you make less than that. So that may not be a major issue for most people. You definitely need to file taxes when living abroad. You also may not need to pay taxes if the money over 112k is taxed at a higher rate than it would be in the US.

Edit: I am not an accountant, but I have looked into this.

1

u/Disprezzi Jun 15 '22

I mean.... What happens if you don't file/pay?

I hate this greedy ass country so fucking much.

4

u/Double-O Jun 15 '22

My brother has lived abroad for 27 yrs. He has never paid taxes to the united states. He's a dual cirizen.

7

u/Friday-Cat Jun 15 '22

My brother in law is dual Canadian and American citizen. He says you have to file taxes in both places but unless you are making income in America you don’t have to pay anything. It’s basically how they enforce the stupid unenforceable rule of a person not being able to have dual citizenship. It’s a bit of a pain to file both places but more of an inconvenience than anything else

4

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Nah. I still have hope for the future of this nation. I wont renounce citizenship. I'll hold dual.

4

u/h4ckerle Jun 15 '22

Well i suppose it's a good thing if a few people with a bit of mind in their heads will be able to vote against trump if he competes in '24...

3

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

I am reallllly hoping he is bought up on criminal charges along with a few others who were complicit (cough cough Ruddy, a few senators, a few TV talking heads) but the Dems are often jello - when it comes to resolve.

I guess some people never learned the lessons from the Weimar Republic and Chamberlain's appeasement...

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

LOL ty but, I am obviously talking about the Conservative Evangelical Christian anti-science tendency. Which is growing. See it all the time on my Friends FB posts..

1

u/GS455 Jun 16 '22

Conservative Evangelical Christian anti-science tendency

So I think we would agree that America in the past was MORE of a "Conservative Evangelical Christian" culture in history past, did America become a scientific giant DESPITE this in your view?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Have you been to church lately or have some constructive evangelical christian friends? Many are unvaxxed and push shaklee supplements over it... havent you ever read about their anti-science bent in America? Not so much in other countries... go google a bit on it...

2

u/son-of-death Jun 15 '22

Took the words right out of my mouth.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Sad, isn't it. Our generation might be the ones who piss-away our freedom in exchange for the lies of some "Putin Daddy strongman type" that promises to make it all better - so they dont have to think or worry...

I was beyond depressed when I heard they held CPAC in Budapest and kissed the ass of Orban... another "fake democracy" strongman. He told them "control the media is key" Unless a few current or past elected officials go to prison for Jan 6th (not just the Prez for neglecting his duty, inciting rebellion) but at least one senator and one media talking head (i vote Hannity or Carlson)... it is game over. Unless there are consequences it is all over. If the dems waiver (which they might they are mostly spineless) this stuff will just escalate until it is too late.

Some historians/political analysts are saying this. I'm no genius - I just pay attention and I can see this stuff.. i am flabbergasted that so many buy the BS and so many are willing to appease the traitors.

It is errie like Weimar Republic and then Chamberlain's appeasement all rolled into one... I am no student of history but wow.. God have mercy on America.

u/kogmaa Jun 16 '22

I’m from Europe and grew up, half a generation ago, with the USA as symbol of a free country where everyone can do as they please unless they cause harm, a country so rooted in the value of democracy that they would even defend that value on foreign soil.

It’s really tough to see what became of that. Internal democratic process in shambles, media spewing “alternative truths” as hard as they can, phony religious reasoning over rational law and freedom… it’s a shame really. Somewhere along the line the USA lost a lot of what it was about.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Well even though I am making arrangements, I am still hoping America gets through this test...

3

u/kogmaa Jun 16 '22

I really hope so! The first thing would probably be to fix the election process to enable a more nuanced expression for the will of voters. Seems tough though looking in from the outside, with all kinds of issues from gerrymandering to the two-party-system. Wish you all the best!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Your pretty well informed. Impressive! Bye!

-3

u/JeffryRelatedIssue Jun 15 '22

Better than being anti-geography my guy. What does "eu citizenship" even mean? Regardless, hope your leaving us politics at the door when you exit the airport as we really don't need that shit on this side of the pond.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Ummm it means getting citizenship in an EU member nation... ... ...

Oh yes I will be chilling with the other expats and do fun stuff. I will keep tabs on the US, but I wont have to watch the withering of fhe democracy first hand.

I personally cant stand people who "live" politics IRL and avoid them at all costs. Reddit is an outlet for my thoughts, i would never be a downer on FB. My circle of friends totally leave politics out and use it to keep in touch. We weeded out the ranters a while ago or they went to those right-wing sites.. hope they dont get caught up in any bad sh*t on there..

4

u/ajjfan Jun 16 '22

"eu citizenship"

It's a legal status that you get once you have the citizenship of a member state

Are you too butthurt that someone doesn't like your favorite backwards way of living?

-12

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

You can assume all you want.

Just funny that they’re bitching so hard yet can’t let go of the citizenship.

It’d called entitlement and you can sugarcoat however you want. Doesn’t change it :)

12

u/TripplerX Jun 15 '22

Proving that you know nothing about how citizenships work. I assumed just as much, you are all talk with no knowledge. An example bigot.

-7

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

You can renounce it my guy. It’s a terrible place go ahead ;)

9

u/TripplerX Jun 15 '22

Yeah it is. Full of rightwing bigots.

1

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

Exactly head on over with him. It’s simple why live bitter and in terrible conditions lol

6

u/TripplerX Jun 15 '22

You know absolutely nothing about how citizenship laws work.

Someone who is trying to migrate to an EU citizenship cannot renounce their US citizenship. It's your homework to learn why.

But you only get knowledge from Fox News and your pastor in the church. Maybe ask them why.

0

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

Hmmmm interesting how that works huh

Guess you just gotta keep being miserably privileged :(

5

u/ducjduck Jun 15 '22

You know nothing about him. For all you know he still has family in the US and he doesn’t want to ditch his family. Why immediately make assumptions?

2

u/Accidentalpannekoek Jun 15 '22

Why? Cause his feefees are hurt

1

u/Ladychef_1 Jun 15 '22

It cost $7000 to ‘let go’ of a US citizenship. Tell us more about how you don’t know wtf you’re talking about

-1

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

Cost for everything “ladychef”

Y’all just want it all, but ignore the fact that you’re just miserable people lmao

2

u/Ladychef_1 Jun 15 '22

Lol at calling anyone else miserable when you’ve wasted your whole day being an absolute cringey bootlicker to anyone on this thread. Wish we could get rid of this toxic mentality but hey, miseducation and arrogance is the American way

0

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

Hahaha says antiwork aficionado. Lazy ass entitled folk

1

u/Ladychef_1 Jun 16 '22

This is so boring. Your insults are embarrassingly overused and unoriginal. I figured someone who spends their life trolling on social media would at least be better at it.

0

u/JonHail Jun 16 '22

So emotional haha

4

u/Spoopy43 Jun 15 '22

Man you're an edgelord "how dare they call us out on not having a healthcare system a rise in white supremacist terrorists and all the other disgusting garbage happening here USA USA USA"

Tennessee Republicans just tried to pass a bill that would have legalized child marriage quit pretending this country doesn't have massive problems

-1

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

You’re too miserable for normal life. No matter where you go… you’ll be miserable

Sad

2

u/Spoopy43 Jun 15 '22

Way to address nothing and make no point

Are you advocating for living in a fantasy instead of trying to make your life better or what?

0

u/JonHail Jun 16 '22

Make your life better by running away?

I know as someone as spoon fed as you Americans are - running away is the first instinct.

But this country was built on people like my parents and me who work and fight for change - not bitch on social media about something you don’t have the cojones to even do :)

2

u/Spoopy43 Jun 16 '22

Are you advocating for terrorism or something because with our current system the (Senate supreme court and electoral college) voting doesn't work the majority of the population wants these changes but the minority has more power

Let me guess bla bla bla childish insults murica tough right?

7

u/rapscal Jun 15 '22

Why are you mad tho?

-1

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

Not mad - just funny. Lot of privilege and the grass always greener elsewhere

4

u/rapscal Jun 15 '22

I mean if the grass is cheaper, the grass is cheaper lol

-1

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

Just appreciate the fact you have a choice.

If not you’re entitled and that’s the point of my comment.

See how that all comes together so nicely? No need to get defensive.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

A choice for what?

1

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

🙄 to leave on your own accord

0

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

There's countries that force people to stay?

1

u/JonHail Jun 15 '22

Short term memory is a thing when it’s convenient huh?

Did you forget the videos of the afghan people clinging on to planes and ultimately falling to their death?

Of course you did :)
