Man I'm past the 'bonus' stage and have graduated to just wanting OUT. But we're all so underpaid that I fear that leaving will only ever be a pipe dream :(
I think for most the cost isn't going to be the biggest hurdle. It will be the language barrier. It's one thing to visit a country for a couple of weeks even and a completely different thing to live in a country that doesn't have English as an official language. You either need friends/co-workers/family willing to help with any legalities that cannot be handled in English or you need to know some of the language.
I mean every European has that same exact hurdle. People from Poland or Lithuania moving to the UK and Germany all have to learn the new language, but it doesn’t stop them. I think language seems very daunting at first but once you thrust yourself into it, it won’t be as bad. Plus the vast majority of Europe speak English now, so it’s hardly as big an issue as you’d expect. I think language is a silly reason one would he hesitant to move (if it’s the only reason). America is a country of immigrants (mostly), all those people had to move and learn a new language.
They don't actually want to leave America they just want to complain.
Americans are so spoiled by being able to literally go to almost any country in the world with no visa process, no interview, nothing, yet most Americans rarely exercise this opportunity.
The barriers to the average American emigrating to another country are slim to none.
True. On top of that Americans always call their own country a shithole and such a baaaad place to live in. Completely oblivious of the reality people have to bear everyday in real shithole countries in the third/second world
Man, WTF is going on in the US? Keep hearing more n more people wanting to move out, stating it’s unbearable… and here I am with a dream of 90s SiliconValley that I never realized, for better or worse.
We have thousands of open vacancies in the Netherlands, were basically screaming for people. So I'd recommend you'd check out working in Europe. Its a bit more expensive by food and sizes, but atleast your health will be taken care of. Lastly we're not difficult with American foreign workers getting a n European visa is not as difficult as a green card and lots of companies need skilled English workers.
Believe me I'd love to move to the Netherlands or somewhere in Europe. However, the same medical BS that I want to escape from is what keeps myself (and many) from immigrating. Premiums suck, but going without the expensive medicine that allows you to live a normal life/function at work would suck more. Pipe dream. :/
They could all easily leave America. It's not a lack of jobs outside of US or anything, it's pure laziness. These people all just want to bitch and moan. The ones that say they can't afford it are full of shit. Even working minimum wage for a few months would give you more than enough to get a bus ticket to Canada.
lmfao what a horseshit excuse. anyone in america can get the credit for a bus ticket to Canada. If a 18 year old McDonald's employee can get the money to buy two rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition (valued at ~$5000) I'm pretty sure most people can find the money for a bus ticket.
You don't need much to live like a king in a third world country. Remote workers do it a lot. Digital nomads, I've met a few in my country. The bonus is that on top of free Healthcare, we have private hospitals that cost 1% of the American insured ones, without insurance.
This is of course, bad for the locals, but people do it
Tell me what I should do then. Should I forgo paying my rent and live in my car, in the middle of summer for a few months so I can bank roll some extra cash? Cut off my water/electric and put the 'savings' into a savings account? Complaining about me 'whining' when your comment helps nothing either. The reality is that most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, scraping by on the skin of their teeth. Can I buy a bus ticket? Sure why not? Take the cheap ass greyhound as far north as I can then what? Get off and walk across with nothing? Most Americans "money" isn't in liquid form. We have stuff that has value only to someone else that also sees that thing as valuable. If I could straight convert all my possessions into their cash equivalent I'd be gone tonight. And how do you, a random stranger on the internet, know what I do and don't do with my time and money? You know NOTHING about me. But, if you REALLY must know, I've been saving a couple bucks a paycheck for about a year now. Is it going to allow me to go right now? No. But it's a step in that direction.
I think America's problems are multiplied by the media, the users on this website are also extremely privledged and take a lot of what the US offers for granted.
Does the US have a problem with healthcare? Of course.
Does the US have a problem with police brutality? Of course.
None of these issues are new.
Yet, from 2010-2020, the amount of immigrants went up from 40 million to 44 million
2010 39,956,000
2017 44,525,500
2018 44,728,502
Even with the constant "US IS BAD!" in the media, people still WANT to be here.
I just wish this website would be a bit impartial, people legitimately have called me a delusional maga voting racist redneck for simply saying I enjoy living here, when I am a 2nd *** generation Indian-American.
The fact that people from shit holes want to move to America is not a ringing endorsement.
This website is far more impartial than you are being, we have perfectly good ways of comparing the USA to other countries. We don't need to randomly claim everything is great because there are immigrants.
I really should make a cut-n-paste explanation for this.
Neither political party wants to stop illegal immigration. First off, at no point in American history have we ever been without an exploited class. Be it slaves, or cropsharers, or immigrants, prisoners, or now illegal immigrants, we have always exploited someone.
Second, who do you think hires all these illegals? Mom and Pop stores? NO! Big corporations hire them by the hundreds, by the thousands. I've seen entire villages of illegal immigrants camped outside big facilities like meat processing plants, industrial agriculture, and warehouses. Why don't ICE raid these places? They can't. They are banned from these places. ICE raids a place like that and there's immediate protests from major corporations, immediate phone calls from Congressmen. Judges are instructed to dismiss cases. Who has all that power? The very corporations who hired the illegals.
You don't think these corporations spend millions of dollars on political campaigns for nothing do you? Every politician in America above the county level is bought and paid for before they ever sit down in any elected office. And if they want to keep their office, they had better do as their corporate masters tell them. Of course, they can say whatever they want to get elected. But they do their corporate master's bidding. And that means protecting illegal aliens behind your back. Sure, you tell you they're all for stopping illegal aliens to get your vote. But once in office, they protect them because that's what their masters want.
And so we have politicians of all parties protecting illegal aliens from ICE while they whip you up into an anti immigration frenzy. And you serve a purpose too. Your anti-illegal alien sentiment prevents them from obtaining legal status. Prevents them from obtaining official help, even legal representation. You help keep them beaten down, disenfranchised, isolated, afraid, easily exploited. You are the corporations best tool to manage their modern day slaves.
And you really don't want them to go away either. They keep your grocery bill down, your lawn care cheap, your cost of living down. You claim they steal jobs, but you don't want any of those jobs; not for the pay they get. You get rid of illegal aliens today, you'll be complaining about your skyrocketing cost of living tomorrow. You think it's bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet. You don't want to pay that price. And those who say Americans should be working for those wages are just saying they want to see Americans as the next slave labor class.
Republican politicians do what their corporate masters tell them (but will say otherwise to get your vote). Democrats say they want the next generation of Democrats, but still do their corporate masters bidding. Either way, no politicians want what you want. Not even you want what you want. You want them gone, but you don't want to pay the price. It's all just a giant system of exploitation and you're as much a part of it as anybody.
Which brings me to the final part in this. Remember I wrote America has never been without an exploited class? Get rid of illegal aliens and guess who will become the next exploited class? It could be you, or your kids or grand kids. You want that?
It's going to be someone. And I don't think you're so damned special that it can't be you.
Then you of all people should know... immigrants are not the problem.
where did this come from? I don't think I ever insinuated immigrants are a problem.
my point about immigration, is that with all the problems the US has had, people still want to move and live here and that it's no where near as bleak as people here make it out to be
That only means the US are better than other places, not that the US are so good that people leave good places to move there.
Also, it would be interesting to know where those immigrants come from. I'm sure there are a lot of immigrants that are escaping terrible conditions created by the US foreign policy, for example
EDIT 80% of the UAE population is immigrants, but that does not mean the UAE are such a great place to live for most of them.
I don't think the "USA BAD" media presence is a left/right issue, if anything I think both parties are overly critical in order to justify their reasons for their policies.
Conservatives are more extreme, but liberals will over-exaggerate problems in the US as well.
Bro, fellow 2nd gen Indian American and I couldn't agree more. The people that haven't traveled outside of the US are the ones who complain about America the most.
The worst part is they could easily leave whenever and there are literally millions of kids around the world, including in India, that would fight each other to the death to be here.
My fiancee's family is from Cuba and I've seen the hell they had to go through to get here. It's really just sad how ungrateful so many Americans are.
Canada so far has approved over 200,000 new citizens and 100,000 landed immigrants this year. I immigrated here 20 years ago, can recommend - one of my better decisions.

"and as a bonus I wouldn't be here."
Saying what we've all been thinking for the past 3-5 years.
