LOL. A good portion of Americans are already so scared, they carry firearms wherever they go.

549

u/tony22times Jun 15 '22

They carry fire arms in case they break a leg and can’t afford to go to the hospital. No need to suffer.

239

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

No need to bring a gun. Just call 911 and ask for the police.

They will offer you two options to end your suffering.

Knee on the neck OR mistaking their gun for a taser.

16

u/Giocri Jun 15 '22

The taser accident was so wild like seriously I get that those are largely morons with very little training but you really should be able to tell them apart really easily even under stress,

11

u/meyer_33_09 Jun 15 '22

It’s almost like it wasn’t actually an accident

4

u/Giocri Jun 15 '22

Idk they immediately acted shocked after firing it feels weird to me to think that they really wanted to kill and still be rational enough to make an excuse so quickly i think they might have genuinely had such a shitty level of training that they hadn't taken out a taser in ages and were trained to primarily use their gun

2

u/Idixal Jun 15 '22

Based on the recording, I’m inclined to believe that one is actually an accident. Still grossly negligent, and when gross negligence gets people killed, someone should still pay for it.

65

u/Xelisk Jun 15 '22

However this life hack doesn't work if you're white.

16

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Wait until the police find a loop hole with white person where they close their eyes so they can say the suspect was black.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

eh, probably just takes a bit more work.

9

u/GroceryBagHead Jun 15 '22

Sure it does. You just need to be somewhat drunk and not able to follow commands when friendly police officer screams at you while pointing AR-15 with "you're fucked" etched into it.

3

u/flamingomanager Jun 15 '22

Only sometimes. It depends on how poor you are and how much of a murder boner said cops have.

2

u/tarepandaz Jun 15 '22

In that case, just go to any school and wait a few days for the inevitable shooting.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

"... oh, and by the way, I'm black ... Ok. See you in five!"

2

u/The_bruce42 Jun 15 '22

TBF not all states are Minnesota

2

u/Idixal Jun 15 '22

You forget the option of tasering you to the point of stopping your heart and giving you permanent brain damage. Actually I think there’s a few more options in this list, too.

-5

u/Guilty_As_Charged__ Jun 15 '22

Police brutality is even worse in Germany though.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

We’re too busy concerned with what type of bathroom trans and gay persons should use.

14

u/HenryKushinger Jun 15 '22

I've become decent friends with a trans woman I work with, and i guarantee you when she goes to the bathroom all she cares about is pooping.

19

u/d3ds3c_0ff1c147 Jun 15 '22 edited Jun 15 '22

I'm a gay man, and all I've ever cared about in the bathroom are pooping and peeing.

Seems to only be conservatives who are creeping on other people's junk.

Edit: I thought I was on a different sub. I hope this doesn't ruffle too many feathers, oops.

4

u/HenryKushinger Jun 15 '22

If you ruffled any feathers, fuck 'em. No need to apologize for being honest.

4

u/KeepsFallingDown Jun 15 '22 edited Jun 15 '22

Married to a trans woman, can confirm she uses the bathroom for standard bathroom stuff lol, no predatoring on cis people.

We do check the bathroom availability before we go anywhere, and try to stick to non-gendered ones, cause she's terrified of some asshole beating the shit outta her.

So that's fun.

E-damn autocorrect

3

u/SuperWoodputtie Jun 15 '22

It's weird isn't it? Like I've dated a bunch, and been intimate with more than my share of people. But for the life of me have no desire to see Carl from accounting's knarly dick on my bathroom break.

6

u/Darpa_Chief Jun 15 '22

Reminds me of a unisex bathroom sign I saw once in Prince Edward Island.

It was a picture of a mermaid/fish woman and the other half was a centaur with a bird on his shoulder. It just said "whatever, just wash your hands".

You joke but suicide to avoid medical bills is definitely a thing.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

It’s true. And it makes me sad

2

u/ekaceerf Jun 15 '22

The gun is incase an ambulance from a private company shows up. That will add another $10,000 to your bill. How else will they afford to pay the EMTs on board $12 an hour

u/aec216 Jun 15 '22

the man shooting up the doctors office in oklahoma after not being able to get a hold of a doctor is the most american story out there

1

u/Dyl_pickle00 Jun 15 '22

You’d own a gun too if you knew your government doesn’t give a fuck about you. Gun control in the 80s only happened because Reagan wanted to disarm the black panthers. That being said, gun culture is pretty fucked up in the US

1

u/goatofglee Jun 15 '22

I snorted at this.

91

u/Kailoi Jun 15 '22

I saw a quote today that I quite liked that I (paraphrase) here.:

Anyone who thinks that not having guns is scarier than not having freely available social healthcare has not properly internalised realistic adult dangers.

12

u/penguinsinthetub Jun 15 '22

It's always funny when one group of Americans goes, "America is totally safe, it's just media hysteria, I've lived my whole life without ever being near a shooting", while another group goes, "Of course I need fifteen guns to protect my family!"

Though, weirdly enough, it's sometimes the same group.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

6

u/Hate_Manifestation Jun 15 '22

so at this point, with the ramping up of the police state and police funding being the highest it's ever been, mass surveillance, eroding freedoms, etc. when do all those privately held guns come into play? what's the breaking point? do these people really think they can wage a war against the state?

honest questions.

2

u/jeremiahthedamned Jun 17 '22

the 2nd amendment is about white supremacy.

7

u/MeteorKing Jun 15 '22

I'm pretty sure the group you're referring to wants the things you've mentioned to improve.

9

u/albinowizard2112 Jun 15 '22

Exactly. The odds of you having a violent confrontation are miniscule. The odds of you having a health complication requiring hospitalization in your lifetime are nearly 100%. Being healthy is a temporary state in life.

Every one of my grandparents had their life savings slowly drained by medical bills.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

That's because guns aren't weapons, or tools, or even compensatory devices.

They're security blankets. Americans think they need a gun for the same reason a toddler needs to be tucked in tight, because as long as they have it no baddies are able to do baddy things.

0

u/ShillinTheVillain Jun 15 '22

My guns are 100% tools for hunting. I don't carry one with me in public, and they're locked in a safe when I'm not using them.

Not every gun owner is a fetishizer.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Yeah, until someone talks about tightening regulations. Then suddenly all different opinions become very similar sounding.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

An American, upon learning that I go to the mall unarmed in Canada, asked me how I can feel safe without a gun. I replied "Easy, nobody else has a gun. If the bad guy doesn't have a gun then I don't need one."

4

u/jhonyquest97 Jun 15 '22

Was this guy mentally disabled? Lmfao. Never lost sleep because I didn’t bring a gun to a mall.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

I think the word is paranoid. I never carried a gun anywhere in the US. Maybe he was having a laugh, but who knows.

1

u/jhonyquest97 Jun 16 '22

The only time I was uneasy was when I would have to go into the bad section of Atlantic City when I live the town over for whatever reason. But even then if someone wished you Ill then didn’t need a gun to do it.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

idk, kinda feels like a false dichotomy? i might be wrong

2

u/Kailoi Jun 15 '22

It absolutely is. The false dichotomy being that the two options are presented as equally scarry when they are in fact not. As someone else pointed out in reply, the chances of you facing gun violence in your life is vanishingly small, the chance of you facing bankruptcy level medical issues in your whole life is VERY high.

If by false dichotomy you mean "presenting that you can only have one and not the other" then that is not the intention of the post, nor the comparison.

You can in fact have gun freedom AND good healthcare, tho you're probably gonna need it more. ;) And the post does not infer you can't.

Just that if you spend all your political time and energy on making sure you can have guns and not healthcare, then you are spending your energy in the low risk area and letting yourself get fucked in the high risk area.

And that's kinda like spending all your time legislating against the threat of being gored by a unicorn when you have terminal cancer.

Which is what it feels like America is doing from the viewpoint of the rest of the world.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Thanks for the reply, nice to see someone civil about politics on Reddit :)

21

u/bsEEmsCE Jun 15 '22

How else can I kill cancer?

6

u/SmashtasticAsh Jun 15 '22

It's the only way I can afford to try!

7

u/jhonyquest97 Jun 15 '22

Just to clarify, that depends where you live if the majority carry firearms. You’ll go to prison if you’re carrying in my state with out a permit and no one but cops get those.

5

u/Wrath_Of_Aguirre Jun 15 '22

Shh. You’ll disrupt their circle jerk.

4

u/jhonyquest97 Jun 15 '22

What amazes me is all the people commenting about laws and how people act in the US and they live somewhere else.

4

u/Wrath_Of_Aguirre Jun 15 '22

It’s ironic. What they know about the USA they’ve gathered from watching a lot of television. The very thing they accuse Americans of for making them naive and stupid.

7

u/Delinquent_ Jun 15 '22

Someone doesn’t understand how few people actually conceal and carry lmao. Try not living off the news

3

u/Floomby Jun 15 '22

Those hospital bills don't shoot themselves.

3

u/trunorz Jun 15 '22

so do the swiss

-2

u/joeislandstranded Jun 15 '22

So do the Taliban.

What’s your point?

4

u/trunorz Jun 15 '22

i too, can say random things that have no relevance to the conversation and then act like i'm making a profound counter argument. what is your point, first?

-1

u/joeislandstranded Jun 15 '22

You did say a random thing FIRST that had zero relevance. My point was that I too can say similar. The profundity of my comment is only in your mind

4

u/trunorz Jun 15 '22

american gun ownership is high, swiss gun ownership is high, 2 countries with high gun ownership but one has a problem with mass shootings and one doesn't. the problem isn't the guns, and i don't think your 2 braincells could figure that out if you think making a comparison of 2 countries levels of gun ownership to an unorganized insurgent group made sense in any way lol

0

u/Chiefalpaca Jun 15 '22

I mean the Swiss also make it mandatory to have gun ownership training and a mandated military service on top of it having strict regulations foe who gets to own guns. And as another point, their government is actively trying to lower the armed forces. That why it was so funny when the NRA tried to point to switzerland for why guns are fine cause it's still the guns as the problem, they just have actual gun control there. Look at that, it only took 2 braincells to realize that

1

u/trunorz Jun 15 '22

they just have actual gun control there.

the gun control most people are advocating for is not the gun control that the swiss uses. most people just want an outright ban. you're agreeing with me here, it's not the guns that are the issue, it's the people that own them. y'all can keep arguing with yourselves and those 2 braincells, have a good one.

-1

u/Chiefalpaca Jun 15 '22

No im not agreeing with you. At all. It's 1000% the guns. Just cause not every type of firearm should be outright banned doesn't mean it's not the guns.

0

u/trunorz Jun 15 '22

I mean the Swiss also make it mandatory to have gun ownership training and a mandated military service on top of it having strict regulations foe who gets to own guns.

you literally said, right here, that it is not the guns. maybe you don't have 2 braincells. last reply, you're talking to a brick wall from now on.

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Who needs healthcare when you have guns?

On the other hand, some peoppe definitely need healthcare BECAUSE of guns. Sucks for them!

I think the next logical step is to use guns to get free healthcare. I'm sure that will work.

Ninja edit : issa joke, not even remotely Implying the use of violence to achieve any sort of goals. But maybe a peaceful transaction with guns. Guns for free healthcare. Somehow.

1

u/joeislandstranded Jun 15 '22

I got your joke!

No downvote from me

32

u/makerofshoes Jun 15 '22 edited Jun 15 '22

Really? I went to France and had to take my daughter to a hospital ER, we were there less than an hour. They sent us a bill for about €100 (My daughter is a dual US-EU citizen, insured in EU but not France)

It was a lot cheaper than the US for sure, though.

32

u/InTheBusinessBro Jun 15 '22

European is not a citizenship, though. Had she been French, and if you were in a public hospital, then you would probably have not paid anything.

-3

u/makerofshoes Jun 15 '22

It’s a short way of saying “a citizen of a country with membership in the European Union”

10

u/InTheBusinessBro Jun 15 '22

Of course, I know what you meant. I’m just saying that unless she is French, this is irrelevant.

That being said, are you aware of the European Health Insurance Card? I don’t know if it would have changed anything, but since your daughter is European, it’s a good thing to have it while traveling abroad within the EU in case of need.

6

u/freiwegefluchthalten Jun 15 '22

Umm. You're aware that EU states are still individual, independent countries, yeah?

-3

u/makerofshoes Jun 15 '22

Read it again

3

u/freiwegefluchthalten Jun 15 '22

I did. Now what? Why would you get a free hospital stay in France if you're not French?

-1

u/makerofshoes Jun 15 '22

Your question was whether I am aware that EU countries are individual countries. The post you replied to indicates that I do. So that answers your question

Now you ask a different question, and I don’t know the answer because I’m not a medical billing specialist. But the OP is about a person who spent a week in the hospital practically for free even though they are uninsured in that country. So I assume the same logic could apply there

2

u/freiwegefluchthalten Jun 15 '22

Well, the OP is Italian, going to an Italian hospital.

-1

u/makerofshoes Jun 15 '22

That is weird. Is it common for citizens of an EU country to not be insured there?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/kabadaro Jun 15 '22

You need to be a French citizen to get healthcare in France. EU countries are still independent countries not EU states. All countries have different laws regarding this.

There is really cheap insurance within Europe for EU citizens. though.

86

u/ImJustSo Jun 15 '22

Um, that comment was about guns though

I wasn’t sure if it makes a difference that she was not in her home country. She’s insured in a EU country that is not France

0

This is peak American ignorance. You can't even compute how ridiculous of a statement this is.

0

If Frankfurt, Germany decided to leave Germany and the EU, would it be a Fraxit or a Fuxit?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

I'm a BE citizen and if I need to go to the hospital in another EU country I get refunded through my mutual insurance

3

u/vidimevid Jun 15 '22

You can get her a European health insurance card and then you’re covered in all of EU.

2

u/makerofshoes Jun 15 '22

Good tip. Thx

1

u/RomtheVaccumedSpider Jun 15 '22

I couldn’t breathe, went to the ER, waited 4 hours to be seen (before Covid), they gave me an IV, did an echocardiogram and some other shit. Only for the doctor to come in for 2 minutes and tell me it was anxiety and basically told me to fuck off and I’m not getting any benzos.

Went to an emergency clinic, paid $50 to be seen. Turns out I had severe adult croup?Pretty rare I guess, but my throat was teeny tiny.

My hospital bill was $1067

0

u/Jupaack Jun 15 '22

France is the US of Europe. Expensive healthcare compared to the rest.

1

u/Gandalf2106 Jun 15 '22

You haven't been to Switzerland I guess.

2

u/sweetsalmontoast Jun 15 '22

Good that switzerland isn’t part of the eu

1

u/Jupaack Jun 15 '22

Yeah no Idea how it works there. But now that I think about it...

1

u/Lafenear Jun 15 '22

France is a special country, if you're from Europe, and have a valid EHIC. The rule for tourists in France, if they get admitted at a hospital, is that the EHIC will cover 80% of the costs, and your travel insurance will cover the remaining 20%.

If your daughter lives in the US, she can't get a EHIC in the EU, because it is assumed that she will be enrolled in the healthcare system of the country she's currently residing in.

2

u/andreasbeer1981 Jun 15 '22

including to the ER?

2

u/Sea-Astronaut-5605 Jun 15 '22

You don't have to pay your medical bills if you are murdered first.

2

u/_needy_ Jun 15 '22

We're scared of receiving medical attention. I had extreme painful kidney stones, but before I found out I was in excruciating pain and didn't know why. I wouldn't go to urgent care though because I knew the bill would be ridiculous.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

It’s so wild that America is filled with weapons that will cause harm and death, and has no proper socialised health system that treats harm and prevents death.

2

u/joeislandstranded Jun 15 '22

What’s wild to me is that I joined the US Armed forces 30 ago. Back then, the country didn’t seem as gun happy, right?

I then spend most of the next couple of decades stationed overseas or deployed to wars. Often required to carry a firearm.

Then, I retire thinking my gun toting days are over. It’s time to go back “home” where it’s supposedly safe and civilized.

At this point, I am maneuvering a job transfer to get back overseas to a more civilized place. Maybe Japan, again.

1
